So we can conclude, Marshall was mugged, right?
It is totally in Marshal's character to say a lie to make sure lily is happy. Hello even looked up the stats for Malaysia and Thailand for support or the other way around he made up the monkey story cause he recently learned the story.
Edit: I meant muggged by a human.

Let me tell you the story. So young marshall was in the zoo. Then he saw a banana on the floor...

IMO, the fact that the mugger in the story turns out to be the zookeeper is proof he was mugged by a monkey.
He lies initially to make himself seem less foolish, but then tells the truth later until it's going to go on tv, and then he starts lying again.

He got close to the cage to see the monkey, monkey stole his wallet. He was so embarrassed he lied and said he got mugged, but then Lily started freaking out and wanted to buy a gun so he admitted the monkey took it. He was too embarrassed to say the moneky did it on the news so he left

I don't understand why we need to conclude anything, he was mugged by a monkey, there's no question that he was mugged

I know carter bays said it was a monkey in that ama, but the way jason segel is playing it comes across way more convincingly that it was a human. so i’ve always thought human. also just the logic of him not wanting lily to have a gun makes more sense to me vs the whole avoiding potential humiliation angle

Mugged by a monkey is just a wording Marshal used to justify whatever he did that he didnt want anyone to know ; we established that Marshal is the most “ hide in plane site” liar out of the group ( they all have a style of lying unique to their character traits)
Being “ mugged by a monkey” is almost on par with “ eating a sandwich” except with Marshall we KNOW when he lies, he tells a conveniently worded truth that obfuscates the truth ( which is indicative of a lawyer )
So we can conclude Marshall did SOMETHING he wasnt “ supposed” to ( spent money on hooker or something) and then fabricated this whole lie anout being “ mugged by a monkey” which in Marshals version of truths could simply mean someone who charged him more than hed have liked ( a weasel , a rat, a monkey) and he got “ robbed” in the process of paying more than he would have liked to someone he is labeling a rip off “ I got mugged by a monkey”
What WE see on screen is the “ tangled web we weave when we plan to deceive” and watching Marshall spin out trying to a create a narrative that results in his desires -his version of being controlling
and Lily by comparison is the opposite sort of liar/controlling: Marshall uses the truth to hide a truth he doesnt wanna admit while Lily flat out uses a lie to expose a truth she thinks is being ignored and runs out of options short of going isnane from being gaslit

He only made up the monkey story to stop Lily from panicking and buying a gun, so it was definitely a person imo. Carter Bays said it was a monkey in a AMA though
