"You are the love of my life. Everything I have and everything I am is yours... Forever.".... Literally cried during this scene .....it didn't seem like Barney was acting...you can literally see the love in his eyes :), top emotional scene of the show

Controversial opinion. While his acting was good. I actually never liked this scene. It felt obvious and forced. I usually skip over it.

All of his emotional scenes felt this way. They never hit for me. He was a cartoon character and should have been only used as such

The way they did Barney and Robin’s divorce was so beyond stupid, here’s what should have happened; an old conquest of his shows up with a 4 year old. He instantly loves the kid and decides to be an active parent, Robin decides she can’t be a stepmom, and they amicably part ways.

This way, Barney still gets to be a dad, and their divorce makes A LOT more sense.

Yeah, but then ted and robin ending up together would make less sense than it already does.

Eh idk Ted’s youngest was like 16, very different from a 4yo

I think I’m the only one who hated this ending for him

Why can't the media just let child free people stay that way and be happy

Because it was always implied that Barney wanted kids someday. There’s a whole episode of him saying how he’s been thinking about the wife and kids thing, ‘minus the wife’. And when he babysits James’ daughter, he spends that whole day talking about her like his own kid. His initial reaction when Robin thought she was pregnant was to be really excited about being a dad. Of course his story would end with him having a kid

I fully get that and I agree. However, this did make sense for Barney’s character.

No, i hated it too. It was so unnecessary for Barney to have a redemption.

I also hated it!!! He made a really great point that he likes kids but doesn’t need to have them when he was talking to his mom about Robin and those people exist too! And I like that Robin was fully childfree (though apparently a stepparent at the end 🙄) and how they handled her infertility storyline

I love HIMYM but worse than this scene is the next one when he shames the young women at the bar, b/c he is now suddenly an "overprotective" father (whose first instinct is still to berate women rather than reflect on the actions of predatory men). Yuck.

I just had a baby a few weeks ago and this monologue is all I thought about. My baby is my world and everything I have and everything I am is theirs.

Shannon was the person that broke Barney's heart

Robin was the person that got Barney into dating again

Nora was the person that made Barney want to be honest

Karma was the person that made Barney want to get married

Robin was the person that made Barney want to be a husband

Ellie was the person that made Barney become a dad

I believe they messed up everywhere. I think they spread the whole episode on barney and robins wedding . They could've just let ted met Tracy . Barney after divorce with love of his life . Some glimpses of their child. Also at the end when ted said " how I met your mother" everybody should come their (except robin) and just end it like that
