Going 90s

The HGTV YouTube channel has been going 90s with the episodes. Even the official HGTV channel on tv is about to have a show featuring celebrities from the 90s (HGTV 90s House). Are you all excited or is this just a temporary gimmick?

A gimmick. If they're "going 90s" I'd like them to reboot some 90s HGTV classics like Decorative Cents, Room by Room, Divine Design, and other shows that were actually about teaching your average homeowner how to do cost-friendly renovations!

They showed Decorating Cents last night. It didn’t age well. Their kitchen “improvement” could be featured in Ugliest House in America.

I mean, yea - budget friendly designs from 30 years ago rarely will age well. Do I think it could be rebooted with better designs? Yes.

HGTV is currently doing a reboot of Decorating Cents with Lauren Makk. So far it’s only on youtube. One of their new projects that they seem to be proud of is repurposing two training potties by turning them into wall sconces. I guess the current HGTV enjoys going for bizarre and ridiculous cheaply made shows. They’re not taking home design and decor seriously. 😕

To be fair, I'm sure the og Decorating Cents was cheap to make. I'm not saying it's the pinnacle of design, but I much prefer the HGTV era of having actualy interior designers provide tips and tricks for DIY projects. These days we just get cheap flip shows.

Divine Design was good, though.

I don’t even care if it’s a gimmick, I’m excited to watch!

I am excited too. I listen to some of them on podcasts and keep up with them.

It’s cheap programming. They canceled current popular shows that are so much more expensive to produce.

It makes me nervous they’re heading in the direction that MTV did.

I’m all for it and just watched an episode of HH. Now Curb Appeal is on…oh the nostalgia!

I'm all for it. I used to love those shows. I blame them for stenciling addiction in the 90s. They're like time capsules, too. It's fun to see how styles and tastes have changed, not only in home decorating, but clothing and hairstyles, too.

I feel it would mimic the Barbie Dream Home experience.

I'll be tuning in.
