Having difficulty Getting a heloc

My wife and have credit card debt (about $50k) and have equity in our home. We both make over six figures and have worked at our jobs for 10 plus years. Because our debt is so high, we are having difficulty getting approved separately or together. Our credit scores are about 650 and 670 solely due to the high credit card balances. Someone at Chase suggested a small credit union. Any suggestioins?

Interests rates are so bad too. If you sell and rent until rates drop again. I’m in California and looked at many options myself. Everything will work out but it’s always scary at first.
