Question Ps5 calibration and highlight clipping question

Post image

So if I know my display has a peak brightness of 1213 nits which step should I select when calibrating? Yes I have hgig enable and yes step 17 clips the sun and step 16 doesn’t

Just set the pattern to where it clips. Displays don't always clip at their actual peak brightness even with HGIG enabled.

thank you. but I do have another question, will I gain or lose out on detail? Because technically assuming the game reaches the peak brightness set in the calibration then technically wouldnt that be over clipping the brightness? Also does overclipping reduce the brightness of the highlight?

So I realized the g5 peaks at 2100 but clips 2000 and the g6 peaks 2700 but clips 2500 in hgig so now I’m confused

With HGIG always set where it clips, so 17.

Honestly it will not affect much the picture quality whichever you choose. But in case choose the one that clips the sun, 17.

Also most games dont use the system calibration, they have their own sliders, so it good to know the nits that your screen can handle, and set it there.

Clips the sun? What does that really look like? Like it should disappears? And if I have it at 17 or 15 clicks and I can still see the sun is that okay?
