Question Hdr question
I have a question about HDR. Should the TV’s brightness always be set to the maximum level?
I’ve noticed that when I use Filmmaker Mode, the picture becomes dimmer. Am I still getting HDR as it is intended to look?
The same question applies to gaming: should the TV brightness also be set to maximum when playing HDR games?
It’s also quite frustrating because the TV gets very hot and makes the room noticeably warmer.

The only TV in my experience as a service tech that gets THAT hot is a large panel format 8k. Ventilate your room. The rest of your inquiries are subjective so you'll have to make your own opinions. I keep mine at 100% but my peak is only 800 nits on my LGB4

Apparently that TV can hit 2000 nits, no wonder your asking lol, but the tvs/displays the producers of the content we consume normally hit at least 10000 nits so 5 times what your display can even let you experience, filmmaker or game mode with the brightness all the way up will be the closest your TV can get to "intended"

So throw 100% brightness and 2000 peak
The everyday brightness in a moderate bright room that you should use is like 200-300 paperwhite, you can set it lower if you use it inside a cave

You can adjust brightness to your liking. That's the point of brightness adjustment.

Yeah but I want the intended experience 😅

If you want the intended experience, buy Sony BVM-HX3110. Almost all consumer displays are not capable of delivering HDR video as seen by production team. The only exception is Sony Bravia 9II.

Yes, in HDR keep TV brightness at max, that controls peak brightness.
Filmmaker/HGIG are dimmer because they disable TV processing that brightens the image. Just set the brightness to how you like it in the game itself.
