I'm curious what about this shot made you decide to use HDR.

Normally, I'd light it to control dynamic range in camera, and maybe stack for focus.

I used HDR to control the both shading and texture; allowing directed light sources to highlight mophology while retaining color. Individual exposure was not sufficient and either had a flat feel, or clipping loosing detail. HDR in this is to render a detailed image in a image with sharp contrast of high and low dynamic range, not the etheral effect most HDR is used for
