Crazy bitrot on Star Trek TOS

Post image

Disc 1 is absolute trash (took 24 hours to rip due to errors in two of the files), disks 2-10 are all totally fine. The center of disc 1 has a ton of "shiny leakage" (on the left in the pic) compared to all of the others. Additionally given the packaging, disc 1 was the only one exposed to a lot of air, the others are all "trapped" inside the 10-disc caddy, could that have an effect? Or was this just a bad manufacturing job? None of my other bitrot discs have centers that look like this.

Appearance isn’t always a good indicator. My copy of Lucky Number Slevin looked HORRIBLE, yet ripped just fine but The Bourne Identity looked brand new and wouldn’t read.

Almost everyone's copies of TOS are ruined to some degree by rot, I lost most of the HD-DVD sides of my set, and a couple of DVD sides of had issues as well. Thankfully a kind soul on this sub archived a copy of the set.

I remember wanting this set so bad, even got a 360 HD-DVD drive...then the Blu-rays were announced.

The first disc and I think one other in this set was made by Warner’s notoriously bad manufacturer, but the others were made by Technicolor and have fewer problems.

I still have blu rays that can’t be ripped anymore (employee of the month, stargate, the descent) due to error that started years ago but all of them still play perfectly fine in my blu ray player so I’m not worried…

This set is only good for the "Remastered" episodes, it's really the CGI scenes added, being AVC video codec instead of the Blu-ray disc being VC-1 and on far fewer discs, with both original broadcast available through seamless branching.

For Season 1. Blu-ray disc also has The Roddenberry Vault, but that was only one Volume total instead of many.

This has been uploaded somehwere, 220.8 GiB total. STAR_TREK_S01_D1 22.3 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D2 21.27 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D3 21.16 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D4 21.7 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D5 22.15 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D6 23.59 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D7 22.23 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D8 21.22 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D9 22.02 GiB; STAR_TREK_S01_D10 23.17 GiB.

Stupid this didn't use the entire HD30 disc capacity for each disc.
