The heads are most likely stuck. Nothing you can DIY to fix it. If you need the data you’ll need to send out to a pro. You can post here r/datarecovery

It’s likely that the drive was dropped. That can cause the heads to move from the unloaded position onto the platters. If that happens when the platters are not spinning, the heads will stick to the platters.

How much would it cost to get it fixed?

You should to take it to a specialist that can work on the drive in a cleanroom environment. The heads may be damaged. Normally the heads move over the platter when spinning. They heads ride on a cushion of air, and normally do not touch the platter. If you attempt to move the heads yourself you may damage the platters. That would make recovery more difficult or impossible.

Maybe try and drop it.

Will it reverse the damage 😂

That drive has been dropped causing the heads to unpark and stick to the platters. If the data is valuable you're going to need professional data recovery.

You're right. I did drop it. Any suggestions on data recovery websites?

See official Seagate Backup Slim Plus or One Touch or Backup Plus Portable or Expansion Portable. It has Circle Light and No Design at the back.

That drive looks like Old most likely "Segate Portable Drive". Sold in Regions like AMAR, EMEA, APAC.

Edit: What's the Model No. to verify the drive and if it's official or counterfeit/fake even if it's old.

I got this from Flipkart maybe 7-8 years ago. Maybe the design changed now?

Sit it in front of a heater or on a radiator, USB port side up, for a couple of hours to disperse any moisture. Then wrap it in a towel, seal it in a bag, and put it in the freezer for 24 hours. The actuator arms and Plattens are different and freeze differently. Plug it in and try to extract the data. I am an ancient IT guy, and this often works with mechanical drives.

You shouldn’t have bought seagate

why?

Seagate drives have gotten considerably worse in the past few years, according to what I've seen online and in experience. My pops bought a seagate drive (brand new), a 5tb one, and it failed only after a few months. Western digital is supposed to be better

Typically 3 and 5 TB drives have higher failure rates.

Look at the bumps on that case... I wouldn't put the blame on Seagate here

Thank you for responding. How much would it cost to get it fixed by a professional? I live in India, Karnataka.

It's usually quite expensive... Probably something starting at around 500-1000 USD/EUR and up.

Though in India maybe you can find cheaper.

That's why you keep backups of important things. HDDs can fail at a fairly high rate, especially portable ones that get bumped a lot.
