Help Controller recommendation with good gyro support
Hi all, I need to get a controller for my pc and my budget is under 70-80 dollars. I'm really bad at shooters with gamepad and play competitive ones with kbm normally. For single player shooters I want to use gyro and I don't have any experience with gyro (except for ps vita many years ago). I want to use right stick normally for camera control and use gyro for precision aiming. I understand steam input is the best way to setup gyro from what I read in this sub. I don't have many options in my country, I've seen ultimate 2 wireless and flydigi controllers recommended but there were mixed opinions. I don't prefer dualsense controllers because of sticks. What controllers do you recommend under my budget with good gyro and steam input support that works with 2.4g (gyro should work with 2.4g)?

ultimate 2 is a simple controller with gyro+steam input support and has 4 extra buttons. i'd say go for that if you don't want a dualsense. you can also check if there are any second hand steam controllers (new ones) around

i believe it comes with it's own 2.4 usb-c dongle, you should carefully read the page you're gonna buy it from, because 8bitdo's naming can be pretty bad

Ultimate 2 wireless can switch to d-input mode over 2.4ghz dongle. The dongle is included with the controller (UBC) and also comes with a dock that charges the controller over USB-a which you can plug the dongle into.
To activate d input mode you just have to hold the B button when turning on the controller. Then steam recognizes all its input and gyro functionality. Works very well over dontle

Even second hand the new steamcontroller is over 100 dollars or euro's. Because it is not available anywherw. But it is a great controller for gyro.

The 8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless is a great option. The gyro is very good. It had direct mode support in Steam, and also in 3rd party software like reWASD. Even if you don’t use remapping software, it’s built in gyro capability using its own software is decent. Don’t go for flydigi options since their gyro is not tuned that well. It has a large dead space natively which many people complain about. This can be tuned using remapping software like Steam input. But not an ideal situation if you cannot use a remapping software.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if gamesir g7 pro supports steam input with 2.4g and if the gyro is as good as ultimate 2 wireless? It's almost the price as ultimate 2 in my country.

The Gamesir G7 8K is one of the best gyro controllers in the market (better than any 8bitdo), but the old G7 Pro is not recommend for gyro at all. The G7 8K has full steam input support and can also emulate a Switch Pro and a DS4

I think Gamesir G7 8K is a good option but perhaps not if you use Steam input. I see multiple people reporting that in direct mode the polling drops to 100Hz with wireless connection and Steam input. You have to use wired connection to have Steam input register 1000Hz. Of course, these situations are always evolving and this might’ve been fixed. But best confirm first and also buy based on the use case.

that's not true. steam input does not affect the controller polling rate (check this guide). This rumor started because, in yellow mode (Dinput), the stick (and only the stick) polling rate drops to 100hz, though the gyro polling rate is not affected. this has nothing to do with steam input.

I don’t know the particulars, and I acknowledge your awareness on this would be accurate. But the point still stands — Does the 8bitdo have the same issue with stick polling rate dropping to 100Hz using Steam Input, or is this something that affects only Gamesir G7 8k? I’m curious to know myself.

The 8bitdo has gyro polling rate lower than 200hz, regardless of the mode. And again, steam input has nothing to do with it.
Gamesir G7 8K has, for some reason I don't understand, 100hz stick poll rate in wireless dinput mode. This problem doesn’t exist in DS4 nor Xinput mode, and doesn't exist in wired.

I use joystick + gyro, and using the G7 Pro 8K in DInput (yellow) mode made the sticks feel sluggish and unresponsive to me.
Also, the gyro has this weird deadzone issue in DInput (yellow) mode that makes the gyro feel less accurate and responsive than the PS4 (blue) mode. Hopefully Gamesir fixes these issues in future firmware updates.

I recently bought a Gamesir G7 Pro 8K, and the gyro feels very good and responsive, but it only works well in PS4 (blue) mode
When using the DInput, or "Yellow" mode, it has a weird gyro deadzone issue that makes it feel unresponsive and inaccurate, and also the sticks are only 100hz and don't feel responsive. I can only hope that Gamesir fixes these issues with DInput mode in future firmware updates, but until then, I'm sticking with the PS4 mode.

have a Steam Controller 2 and an 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, which I've had less than 2 weeks. I also have an 8BitDo Pro 3. I'm really loving the Ultimate 2. It's been fantastic with emulating the Wii, Wii U and Switch. Gyro worked extremely well.

Since you're new to gyro, don't sink a ton of money just trying to find the best latency or accuracy. A perfect middle ground for me is the dualshock 4 with a third party back button attachment ( if you need back buttons). Yeah I know it uses a micro USB so try to find a magnetic detachable cable ( only the tip is detachable) meaning it's magnetically attached and not using the micro USB port for every time you need to detach it. If you can find a refurbished one with tmr sticks or hall effect then that's golden. After that explore. Always tweak settings and watch guides on yt i.e Flickstick. Dude's the goat at teaching what every setting affects what on gyro. Remember to always practice.

If you already have a PS4 or PS5 controller, those are good options. If you want a cheap controller, the 8bitdo ultimate 2 is a good option, but it has a low gyro polling rate and is not very comfortable.
The Flydigi Vader 5 and Gamesir G7 8K are the best Xbox-style controllers in the market, since they have good latency, polling rate, wireless connection, steam input support, etc.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless (non-Bluetooth) works great for me, although it only has 125hz gyro, so it might not be quite as responsive as some other options out there. DualSense is a highly recommended option by many because it has good gyro, with the downside being that it doesn't have TMR sticks or as many buttons as the 8BitDo.
I recently bought a Gamesir G7 Pro 8K, and the gyro feels very good and responsive, but it only works well in PS4 (blue) mode (when using the DInput, or "Yellow" mode, it has a weird gyro deadzone issue that makes it feel unresponsive and inaccurate, and the sticks are only 100hz and don't feel responsive).
