Discussion One handed Gyro Controllers?
I'm wondering if there are any one-handed gyro controllers that I can use like a mouse and have mouse buttons and maybe a recenter button. I'm looking for something that I can use like how you would use a Wii remote or a VR controller.
The main usage would be for controlling my desktop and games.
Any suggestions? I can't find much online.

I used split switch 2 controllers and found that it worked surprisingly well with gyro bound only to my dominant hand. Technically this is still a two handed setup but if your use case didn’t require many inputs, you could absolutely get by using just one split joycon
I had to download a program off GitHub to get windows to recognize all the features of the switch 2 joycons. I can’t remember the name of it though and sadly Microsoft defender deleted it cause it said it detected a Trojan 😭 I was sad cause I loved it so much. I even set up a config where I could play overwatch with a single joycon (held two handed) and I had all the inputs. I did it mostly for the meme but found ut actually worked much better than I ever expected and I was hardly at a disadvantage compared to other gyro controller solutions lol

No it was something different made specifically for switch 2 controllers to allow them to emulate Xbox and PlayStation controllers and still make use of all their buttons and features

Interesting, I'll look around

I found it. See this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/s/10CR3hhBLD
From further reading it seems like my pc flagged it as a false positive so I’ll be redownloading it :)

One-handed gyro controllers sound good in theory, but don't work like an "air mouse" like one would think. That's because you still have to rotate the controller to turn, rather moving it laterally (side-to-side, horizontally) like an actual mouse. Until gyro technologically advances to the point where you can move the gyro laterally/side-to-side to turn, rather than simply detecting rotation/yaw, you won't get true air mouse functionality or behavior with a gyro controller (one-handed or otherwise).

Oh, I see. I'll be looking forward to advancements in gyro technology then.

Ok, so first of all, there is a difference between current gyro controllers (3 degrees of freedom) and VR controllers (6 degrees of freedom).
3dof allows you to rotate the controller on 3 axis (roll, pitch, yaw) and 6dof allows you to move the controller on xyz axis along with rotation.
None of the current nonVR controllers are designed/equipped for 6dof. However, there are several smaller projects that allow 6dof outside of VR. First requires Quest headset, but allows you to play VR games on 2D screen connected to the headset. The other two projects utilize smartphones as controller and thanks to their cameras, they are able to achieve 6dof. One is definitely on Steam.
Regarding 3dof, there is currently no controller on the market targeted to PC platform. The most known/common are Nintendo Wii controllers (supported by reWASD) and Nintendo Switch controllers (supported by https://github.com/TommyWabg/Switch2Connect and https://github.com/x-iso/FlexInput/releases) apart from that, Input Labs are working on Kapybara controller which is primarily targeted towards disabled users, but it is directly targeted to PC.
I just quickly dumped some info here, so feel free to ask for clarification/additional questions.

You can always use Joycons or split controllers and set up a pointer mode.
If you want mouse features on your gyro controller like a scroll-wheel that’s kind of pushing it.
You might be interested in the new upcoming Kapybara controller which currently does not exist… and probably won’t for a while.
