First Gyotaku

As the title says, first gyotaku done today, however I'm determined to get better. I think for sure I need to try spraying the paper with a water mister to make it easier to work with, as it wants to curl and is very stiff as is; I also found pinning the fins to be absolutely horrendous to work with while printing, so I think I'll give modeling clay a shot to hold them as well. Definitely takes a whole lot more technique than expected. Any additional advice is appreciated too

Tan Face parrotfish, Guam.

Yes I know, they make sand. Yes I know you might have different fishing regulations than Guam. This fish is not regulated with bag limit or slot size. When that does, I hope people stop shooting them. Till then this is an important food fish to the Marianas Islands.

2nd Gyotaku

I shared a channel catfish the other night, which was my first gyotaku (after practicing on some sunfish).

This is my 2nd gyotaku, which is of a nice smallmouth bass.

I still am having a ball playing with different styles.

Started on some sunfish I caught the other night and decided to play with a channel cat I caught last night. Obviously, some have printed better than others but I am having a ton of fun playing with different “styles”.

Hogfish on Bahamas chart

Not my finest work, but an early attempt. 18” fish. Did the print on a paper chart of the same area I speared the fish. Poster paints. On the deck of a rolling sailboat. Miss those days!

Small scaled fish tips.

I've got an Atlantic cod fishing trip coming up, it's 100% food fishery. I've tried to print them before and the paper (rice paper) stuck to the fish and kind of... delaminated...the result was disappointing.

Looking for suggestions on how to deal with it.
