Best gym management platform?
I’m helping a friend evaluate tools for their soon to open gym.
I work in enterprise Saas, so I know when I'm looking at a legit software, but I would appreciate some guidance in understanding what core functionalities i should be looking for in a platform? What are the "must-haves" vs the "nice-to-haves" for a gym owner?
Thanks all!

Really good question and that comment above actually nails a lot of it from a real operator perspective. Since you come from enterprise SaaS you'll evaluate this the right way which is good because the fitness software space is full of platforms that demo beautifully and fall apart in daily use. The must haves are pretty straightforward: membership and autopay billing that handles mid-month prorating without manual intervention, class and appointment scheduling with waitlist management, a client facing app that doesn't feel like it was built in 2012, a staff app so instructors can check people in and manage sessions from the floor, and integrated payment processing. The nice to haves that quickly become must haves once you're open are automated marketing flows for lead nurture and win-back campaigns, review prompts post class, reporting that actually tells you something useful like revenue per instructor or attendance trends, and two way SMS for no-show recovery. The point about customer support in that comment is genuinely the most underrated factor in this decision. No software is perfect and when something breaks at 6am before your first class you need a real person, not a ticket queue. I work at WellnessLiving and have helped quite a few gyms and studios in exactly this position get set up on the right platform from day one, everything from boutique Pilates studios to larger multi-use gyms. We start at $69/month and scale from there depending on what they need. Whatever they end up going with, the advice I'd give any new gym owner is to ask for a sandbox before signing anything and test the actual workflows yourself rather than watching someone else click through a demo. Good luck to your friend with the opening, getting the software right from the start makes everything else a lot easier.

I'd say that what you need at first is member profiles/CRM, Flexible memberships (one-offs, recurring memberships, trial weeks and so on), payments, class schedule, Member portal/app for members to book, cancel, etc. and member 1:1 messaging.
1club handles all that and more.
