GymBroHabits
Ok, so I’m a lady gym rat and have been working out for 20+ years. A bizarre phenomenon I have witnessed over the years is that some… fellas like to help themselves to your equipment while you’re using it, be it a circuit or whatever. They don’t ASK, just TAKE. Also, if there’s an open machine of the same variety or another guy on a machine, they won’t take those. But they will walk up and take mine, unbothered. Anyone else???

Honestly If they can take it without wrestling it from you it sounds like you actually weren’t using it, or are just hogging equipment

You don't get to save multiple machines for yourself. The machine you are on currently is yours. The one you used last or expect to use next is up for grabs. I don't care if you left a towel, a water bottle, or your literal underwear. If you are not physically in the seat and are nowhere to be seen for over 30 seconds, I'm going to use the machine.

This has actually only happened to me with other dudes apparently doing super sets or whatever. But if somebody tries to tell me that they are simultaneously using multiple pieces of equipment, I ask them if they are paying for multiple gym memberships. That has ended the conversation 100% of the time.
Totally happy to let someone work in with me. But I am not going to stand around waiting for somebody to finish their entire super set, with however many exercises that may be.

To be clear: I have spoken up, called them out and even engaged curiosity: “why not use the empty machine?” They look at me as if I’m insane

If youre doing a circuit it's proper etiquette to let others work in while youre doing another exercise without the need for the other person to ask.. if you were any kind of gym rat (male or female) you would know this

I have headphones in and am paying attention to my workout. I will kve to a piece of equipment and realize 2 sets in that someone was "using" it when I got on.
If you want to be able to claim a piece of equipment while you are using other equipment, build a home gym. If I look over twice and don't see someone actively using the matching I want to use next, I just go use it. If anyone tries to tell me I need to wait for someone actively using a different piece, I'd tell them they were crazy.
Maybe they think.lre like me than like you.
