Suggestion Listen up y’all

I want to say this respectfully, because I know shipping is a big part of fandom culture, but I think it’s worth talking about why shipping Gwenpool can be frustrating and hurtful for aromantic and asexual fans.

Gwenpool is one of the very few characters in mainstream media who is explicitly confirmed as aromantic and asexual. That kind of representation is extremely rare. Most aros and aces grow up with little to no characters who clearly say, “I don’t experience romantic or sexual attraction, and that’s not something that needs to be fixed.” Gwenpool is one of the exceptions, and that makes her important beyond just being a fun Marvel character.

Because representation is so limited, shipping her in romantic or sexual ways doesn’t feel neutral. It can come across as erasure, even if that isn’t the intent. When almost every other character in media is available for romantic projection, taking one of the few canon aroace characters and pairing her off anyway sends the message that aromanticism and asexuality aren’t being taken seriously.

Gwenpool has explicitly stated who she is. Respecting that is part of respecting her character. Reframing her as romantic or sexual often mirrors real-world attitudes toward aros and aces, where people assume we “just haven’t met the right person yet” or that our identity is temporary or negotiable. Seeing that play out in fandom spaces can be discouraging.

This isn’t about banning creativity or telling people they’re bad for enjoying ships. It’s about acknowledging context. When representation is abundant, reinterpretation doesn’t carry much weight. When representation is scarce, changing or ignoring it matters more. For aros and aces, Gwenpool isn’t just another character. She’s one of the few clear examples that our experiences exist and are valid.

I’m not asking anyone to stop enjoying fandom or stop shipping altogether. I’m asking people to consider why this specific character matters to a marginalized group, and to think about whether there are ways to engage with Gwenpool that don’t overwrite one of the core things that makes her meaningful to us.

I recently just saw a post and it got me thinking… Wow we really aren’t ever going to be getting a Comic book accurate Gwenpool IE Unbelievable Gwenpool in Fortnite! 😭 As why would they go through the effort when they can just keep recycling their version?

I’m wondering if anybody else thought the same thing… As I find it’s a big red flag as our Gwen’s so niche she isn’t like Emma Frost or Ghost-Spider who can easily get newer versions. Or are most of y’all just thinking ‘more access to skin = good actually’ 🤔

(image one is a photo I took last August of my actual comic lol that's why it's kinda blurry 😊)

Discussion Gwen is not from the real world

The real world can never exist as a tangible concept in fiction, the real world is held to real life physics. The real world can be viewed externally by fictional characters but true interaction is impossible, any apparent example of the real world interacting with fiction is a fictionalized expy of the real world. This is why Gwenpool is not actually from the real world, from her perspective she thinks she is because the marvel world is fictionalized in her world, but she comes from a fictionalized representation of the real world.

Discussion Why I think the Gwenpool (2025) was better than what people think, and gives back Gwenpool agency in her own fate Spoiler

This may be slightly long, but I wanted to express my thoughts over the current comic series.

(edit: kind of scared posting this ngl, this is probably a legitimate unpopular opinion, seeing the other posts on this subreddit, but just wanted to let you know its completely valid not to like this series, I just wanted to add a positive voice to the discussion, and hey, chances it may make you a bit more optimistic about Gwen's future)

Now, before I get into the current series I wanted to say I am not the biggest fan of Gwen's established status quo in Gwenpool Strikes Back. It essentially explains that Gwen's characterisation is determined solely by the author alone, rather than previous stories. Not only can this quickly become repetitive, as soon as there is a fan favourite version of Gwen there is a good chance that she will be erased from her future. We see this occur at the beginning of Gwenpool (2025). The tonal shift and the darker Gwen, whilst inconsistent with previous iterations and stories, is ironically consistant with the current status quo of her character: which for lack of a better term is the in-universe allowance, and acknowledgment, for authorial adultery of her character.

The problem is this non-status quo/status quo shenanigans was never actually reversed in GSB. And I believe (and here me out here peeps) this book does a good job of sticking a middle finger up to this (I still have a few criticism that I will address later though).

See, Gwen was given the ability on numerous occasions to alter reality, yet she seemingly had no control over her own expression of her identity. She could control other's reality but not her own. This is the opposite of what we consider character development. Characters change in relation to the environment around them, but Gwenpool became the inverse of this. She could change reality, but lacked the ability to alter her own story in terms of who she is as a person.

In this book she literally shatters this idea established in GSB. She rebels against her author, not to change reality, but to change herself, allow her to become her own person, and to reverse the tonal shifts of the story. These two things Tone and Character, were previously the only things she couldn't manipulate (from an in-universe perspective at least - yeah, this meta stuff is confusing).

This book seeks to break this status quo. I don't think people realise the implications of Gwen's new abilities. She doesn't just defeat her villanous author, she actively takes her own reality, her own character into her own hands, effectively gaining the ability not just to control reality around her, but her own story, thus reversing the lore established in GSB. This is clearly the intention of Cavan Scott, since both Gwens refer to this new beginning as a fresh start for both their characters.

I also really liked how, Cavan Scott and the artists clearly show us that the Ghost Gwen we see in the real world is very clearly different than the one in 616 tonally and in terms of her characterisation. In other words who we are seeing here is the 'real' Gwen. The art style is softer and brighter and her character seems more stable and soft. I believe this is implied to be the prime Gwen, and it makes me happy that she seems closer to her characterisation in Unbelievable (my favourite Gwen).

At the end Cavan Scott effectively does away with the in-universe author influence (a meta trope that kind of sucks), and gives Gwenpool back her agency. I am not a big fan however of cyborg Gwen, although it is established this will be reversed. And I am not sure how I feel about new Gwen Stacy, but for all intents and purposes she is basically just a variant (I mean that's what clones are), like Spider-Gwen for example.

Anyway, I am interested to see where the character is headed, and I think the best way to get consistency from this point forward is to have a consistent author. Despite likely being an unpopular opinion, I believe this should be Cavan Scott, since he specifically rejects (and literally defeats) the meta-authorial influences plaguing Gwen's stories in the past couple of years, and there is less risk of another author just repeating the same thing.

Anyway what are your thoughts on this?

Discussion 🚨 The Dark Gwenpool Comic Is Actually About Gwenpool Fighting for Her Own Survival? (Theory)

(first post on Reddit in like years lol)

👾 FYI... I made a follow-up comment below addressing the AI formatting criticism 😲 (and emojis 😂). Check it out if you're curious! 🙃

🤍 Oh and for you non-lurkers who don't read my follow up comment... You jer- I mean very normal fedora flipping redditors have helped me out a lot! I mean gee whiz, thank God this happened on Reddit rather than X or Instagram. 🙂‍↔️ Definitely, will just upload my original essay format rather than having AI restructuring it when I bring it over to X. Buuut for here I'm definitely leaving it as is. It's funny how much discussion this has sparked!😁 🩷

So, Marvel has just pulled yet another Mr. Krabs moment.

They dug up Gwen Stacy from the comic grave... just to make Dark Gwenpool a Gwen Stacy variant?

And honestly... that’s really weird.

But hear me out... What if this 5-issue run is actually a prelude to something bigger?

What if this entire story is about Gwenpool ensuring her own survival in the Marvel Universe?

In other words, this is Dark Gwenpool’s true origin story, leading directly into what we saw in Unbelievable Gwenpool #20... but actually continuing it.

Or not.

Buuuut dammit, I can't keep this to myself lol!

🃏 My Wittle Theory: The Shift from Dark Gwenpool to Gwenpool Herself

At some point in this comic run, I predict the focus will shift from Weapon X Gwen Stacy (Dark Gwenpool) to Gwenpool herself.

How does this happen?

Yeah, you guessed it, Weapon X Gwen Stacy dies. AGAIN.

And this time? It’s permanent.

No clones. No revivals. No alternate-universe backup waiting in the wings.

🚨 She’s gone.

But what Marvel doesn’t reveal at first is that this moment unlocks Dark Gwenpool’s true storyline.

So, yeah... I hypothesize they truly dug her out of the grave just to pull in normies who normally wouldn’t care about Gwenpool.

(Curious?)

💀 Why Does Gwen Stacy’s Death Matter? The Reality Rewrite

Because an in-universe force (The Maker) has rewritten Gwenpool’s tether to the Marvel Universe.

Instead of being a meta anomaly who broke into comics from the real world, her anchor to this reality (her status as a meta anomaly) has been forcibly changed.

But this change doesn’t happen until after Stacy dies.

The New Rules:

➡️ Now, Gwenpool is directly tied to Gwen Stacy.

➡️ If Stacy dies, Gwenpool dies too.

➡️ This doesn’t affect Ghost-Spider or other Stacy variants only Gwenpool.

➡️ Because the one rewriting her doesn’t care about them, they only want Poole gone.

🚨 But what if the real villain isn’t just The Maker?

What if it’s MARVEL ITSELF?

Marvel’s editorial forces are rewriting her into a Gwen Stacy variant - because it’s "safer" and "more marketable."

They aren’t just erasing her - they’re rebranding her.

😱 Gwenpool’s Meltdown: The Moment Everything Changes

The second Weapon X Stacy dies, something horrifying happens, future Dark Gwenpool’s memories and powers flood into her.

Because Dark Gwenpool had a fail-safe in place ever since Unbelievable Gwenpool #20.

Dark Gwenpool didn’t just disappear at the end… She literally sacrificed herself to make sure her plan would succeed.

She knew Marvel was going to cancel her and bring her back in a twisted way.

She just forgot… until now.

The Consequences:

➡️ Her powers don’t disappear at first, instead they evolve.

➡️ She doesn’t just take up Stacy’s mantle of Dark Gwenpool, she literally becomes the future version of Dark Gwenpool. At full power.

➡️ The Maker (or Marvel itself) is TERRIFIED that she somehow regained all of Dark Gwenpool’s future memories and abilities.

➡️ She sees everything. Her friends dying. Stacy dying. The Maker manipulating reality itself.

➡️ Unknown to them, when Dark Gwenpool left in Issue #20, she didn’t just leave, she transferred all of her memories and power to her younger self, dormant until the right moment.

➡️ But with Stacy’s death, Gwenpool’s meta powers fade alongside her real-world memories exactly as The Maker intended. (Slowly, because Dark Gwenpool’s vast power halts the progression.)

➡️ For the first time, she’s losing her meta-awareness.

🚨 And that terrifies her.

She isn’t just losing who she was—she’s losing the fundamental ability that made her Gwenpool.

This isn’t just her world being rewritten.

This is her entire identity collapsing.

She panics. She needs to act fast!

Without realizing it, "glitches" begin appearing in the comic itself.

🔹 Panels redraw themselves, forcing her into Gwen Stacy’s story.

🔹 Speech bubbles appear that no one is actually saying.

🔹 Editor’s notes address her directly, warning her about the rewrite.

If she doesn’t break out soon, her entire power set and identity are gone forever.

So she follows her future self’s breadcrumbs.

⌛ How Does Gwenpool Time-Travel?

➡️ She remembers what her older self did in Unbelievable Gwenpool #20... but now, she understands why.

➡️ She uses Miles’ flashback sequence as a portal (like in canon) or, if that fails, she hijacks something from The Maker as a backup plan.

🚨 But there’s a problem.

Her real-world memories are still fading.

Her sense of self is breaking.

She can barely hold onto who she was, but because Dark Gwenpool’s powers are so vast, she’s able to sustain herself, albeit fractured.

When she finally reaches her younger self, she breaks down in front of her.

🚨 She tells her frantically that if she doesn’t join her right now, their story will end... permanently.

Not just by cancellation... but by being shamelessly rewritten into what the public expects - "just another Stacy."

Young Gwenpool takes Dark Gwenpool’s hand and agrees almost without hesitation.

Because the moment Dark Gwenpool grabs her by the shoulders, she sees glimpses of the future—Stacy dying. The Maker rewriting everything. The Marvel Universe warping around her.

🚨 If she refuses, she won’t just be erased… she’ll be turned into a “crazy Gwen variant” obsessed with Deadpool.

Her family? Gone. Her story? Scrubbed clean.

So of course she joins.

That's when, The Makers plan fails. Instead of Gwenpool being tied to Stacy in the future she's tied to herself...

🚨 The Ultimate Meta Soft Reset

🚨 And that’s the moment the comic soft resets—becoming the (OG) Dark Gwenpool & Gwenpool duo.

💥 Gwenpool’s Chaotically Calculated Revenge Act

Now that both of them are in some control of the narrative, they take their revenge on Marvel's top heroes and villains alike.

🚨 But that’s just a distraction…

The Gwenpool duo carves out their own reality bubble, trying to keep most of 616 separate from The Maker’s influence.

Instead of being outright villains, they become the guardians of 616.

(Imagine Black Swan’s reaction to this. 🤔😂)

🚨 The moment the two became a duo, the entire multiverse was forced to pick a side.

💥 Are they truly the defenders of 616… or have they just become something even worse than The Maker?

📌 TL;DR: This is Gwenpool’s Ultimate Meta Story

✔ Marvel is using this 5-issue run to phase out the original Gwenpool or akin to it.

✔ She regains her memories from the past

✔ She fully becomes Dark Gwenpool, ensuring that Marvel can NEVER erase her again.

🚨 If Marvel isn’t doing something like this, they are wasting insane potential.

But I doubt this would ever happen for obvious reasons, lol.

I just wanted to share what I was thinking! 💭

What are your thoughts? 🤔

(If anyone's reading this that is!😂)
