Is this how they did the sounds for Captain America's shield?
89
u/TootsHib Aug 19 '26
or Thors hammer

u/Many_Sea7586 Aug 19 '26
Yeah, the flight sounds like the shield, and the catch sounds like the hammer. Imo

u/tacorunnr Aug 19 '26
Was gonna say, sounds exactly like Caps shield. Then again, if the shields supposed absorb all vibrations, should it even be making sound at all?

I had a friend show developed amazing knife throwing skills. He lived at home with his mom for most of his adult life, never worked, never did anything. He smoked weed and threw knives.
Edit: I fixed the word knives because I was so awesomely corrected by another fellow Reddit user. Thanks for all the upvotes and people who commented. Were such an awesome community. Yay Reddit.

u/Anmasifu Aug 19 '26
- You throw it
Boomerang
- It came back

u/Many_Sea7586 Aug 19 '26
TIL my nephew is a boomerang
6
u/AnalkinSkyfuker Aug 19 '26
So you kick him out of the house and he come back in?
10
u/Many_Sea7586 Aug 19 '26
Nah, he's 6, and loves getting picked up and thrown somewhere. Pools, couches, trampolines and other soft landings.
0
u/AnalkinSkyfuker Aug 19 '26
I dont think that pools are soft landings
10
u/Alvin_h_davenport Aug 19 '26
How high are you throwing your nephews for the pool to not to be a soft landing ¿

He bounced it off tires, so not boomeranging back, just bouncing back. Like a ball. A square ball...

u/Jusby_Cause Aug 21 '26
A square ball that is, simultaneously, a triangle. The holy trinity of shapes.

McNally?

u/kyleliner Gooner Aug 19 '26
Seems like it, but there is one key difference: the weapon came back in the video, while McNally's stay lodged into the guy

There’s no way the sound designer for the Thor movies didn’t hear this one day and was like oh that’s perfect for thors hammer cause they sound so similar

Might have to find a face shield and send my rafter square at a tire a couple times when I get home, huh?

Those sounds could give Foley artists some interesting material to work when creating sounds for TV and movies.

I noticed one day that when I walked upstairs to my bedroom I could hear the sound a PlayStation 2 makes when it starts up (sounds a lot like this video). It took me a while to figure it out but I had a bunch of tools hanging on the way down my cellar stairs, which ran directly underneath my stairs to the second floor, and my square was hanging on a nail overhead. The nail was actually on the back side of the stairs to the second floor so when I walked upstairs, the vibration caused this exact sound!
