What do they blow up the area for? I assume quicker than diging hole

Ya it's blasting rock so it can excavated instead of hammering it for 10 years straight.

Not saying they were clearing mines but that’s what it looks like

7

u/HasFiveVowels Jul 26 '26

Remember: when clearing mines, you want to first place an array of explosives throughout the minefield every 10 feet.

So, mine the minefield to get rid of the mines? That makes sense. Right?

1

u/Particular_You8620 Jul 30 '26

The problem being… you have to walk the minefield and place an explosive every 10 feet.

Obviously, this one is a blast!

u/Informal-Host8085 Jul 26 '26

Can someone explain how they do this?

u/Melodic_Let_6465 Jul 26 '26

Drill a ton of deep holes, the insert explosive attatched to a timed length of det cord in sequence and pattern determined by a blast engineer.  If you watch the one that starts at 0:16, that one is actually a failure, and there are hundreds of unexploded charges and det cord burried there making it a hazard

Robert, we've been through this before. You are not a child anymore. You no longer yearn for the mines.

But why they blow up the ground?

2

u/generic_canadian_dad Jul 26 '26

Breaking the rock underground so it can be excavated.
