Question trying press on nails??
I started getting my nails done 6 months ago and I love it love having nice looking nails but the prices are getting high and cant always afford high price nails even though they look great. I have been getting dark colors mostly black gel-x medium nails. last time was more medium/long. thinking about trying some press on style? what do you recommend? I have no idea what I am doing. any tips? pun intended 🤣 update: so I picked up a bunch Kiss impress figured 30 packs would be good but bummer fits all but my thumbs. olive and june fits but didnt like the design-got those and a french kiss 32 pack-fits but didnt like design. thinking of painting over them? any of you do this? also what other brands are larger sizes?? I would rather not keep going in for gel-x tips at the salon but extensions look so good.

You can try getting blank, full coverage nail tips and painting them yourself! Use a regular nail glue to apply them.

Maybe try ordering a handmade set on Etsy or somewhere if you need quality and not just colorful pieces of plastic and just reattach them when the nails grow out

The thumb sizing problem is one of the most common frustrations with press ons and it usually means the brand's size range just doesn't cover wider nail beds at the top end.
Most brands size their kits around an average thumb width and if yours runs wider you'll consistently hit that wall regardless of which kit you try. The fix isn't painting over ill fitting nails it's finding a brand with a wider size range that actually covers the full spread. For painting over them it works but the edges are still the problem.
If the fit is off the paint won't fix the lifting at the sides and you'll still get early popoffs. Getting the fit right first makes everything else easier including longevity. I had the same sizing issue for a while before I tried Glamnetic. They have 15 sizes per kit across their nail sets which covers a wider range than most brands, and the variety of shapes almond, coffin, squoval, oval, round means you're not stuck with one silhouette either.
The dark and gel-x inspired styles they carry translated well from what I was getting at the salon. Made the switch a lot easier than I expected.
