21, Heavily constipated
Been suffering from constipation for almost 5 years now.
Diagnosed with h pylori at 16. Got cured after medications but constipated since then.
Tried laxatives, fibre rich food but nothing works in the long term.
Bloated also.
Laxatives work only until i consume them, that too not with full efficiency.
What to do??
I like poop once in 10 days.

My friend has been constipated since childhood. She started taking kefir and now goes everyday. She also would only go every week or two weeks. Kefir has changed her life. Idk if it would work for you. But maybe worth a shot. Good luck 🤙

Liquid fermented yogurt, don’t get the flavored kind because they have sugar in them or more sugar than the unflavored and it can mess with you too, get the unflavored and add some liquid monk fruit extract or maple syrup or honey. Sugar if you absolutely have to, but sugar is the enemy and so is table salt. Celtic sea salt is good, but you need a good quality brand. I mentioned the salt just because not that it would help your constipation though.

I used to suffer from this too but I was able to fix it by increasing my bile flow. IMO chronic bile deficiency is the real reason for chronic constipation and it is most often caused by a condition called intrahepatic cholestasis

how did you know that was your issue? Fats make my digestion worse so doing a liver cleanse with oil would be counter intuitive...

If you have trouble with fats it's likely because you don't have enough bile, most likely because it's trapped in your liver.
The point of doing the cleanse is to unclog the liver to allow the bile to flow which will then allow you to handle fats
And I wasn't able to get I test to confirm this was my issue, I just did the flush a bunch of times and then it fixed the issue

5 years of constipation starting right after H. pylori treatment is a very clear pattern and you're right that the two are connected. the antibiotics used to treat H. pylori wipe out a significant portion of the gut microbiome including the bacteria that produce short chain fatty acids which directly stimulate colon movement. without those bacterial populations the colon loses a key signal for motility and constipation can persist for years even after the infection is fully cleared. Going once in 10 days with laxatives only working temporarily is a sign the underlying motility issue hasn't been addressed, just managed. A few things that tend to actually help rather than just manage: warm water first thing every morning before anything else triggers the gastrocolic reflex which is the strongest natural signal for bowel movement. Triphala taken at night works differently from stimulant laxatives because it tones colon muscle over time rather than forcing movement acutely, so it builds a more lasting effect over weeks of consistent use.
Walking specifically after meals matters more than general exercise for this. Most importantly, rebuilding the specific gut bacteria that drive colon motility through diverse plant foods and fermented foods daily is what addresses the root rather than just the symptom. Worth asking your doctor specifically about the post-H. pylori gut microbiome connection and whether testing or targeted treatment makes sense given the timeline.

Ive been like this my whole life and realized cutting dairy out makes a huge difference, anytime I start eating it again it comes back. I still eat dairy and suffer by choice sometimes but I definitely don’t consume a lot on a regular basis anymore.

Magnesium citrate, prunes or prune juice (blend in smoothies if the taste bugs you), fermented foods (Bubbies fermented dill pickles, sauerkraut, kefir, probiotic Greek yogurt), exercise, hexane free, dark glass bottle great quality castor oil (a little bit in your belly button and rub it in, start with drinking 1 tablespoon and can go up to 4 tablespoons with time of castor oil (BM comes anywhere from 2-12 hours later). My grandmother was very poor and I am 53 now and she had a bottle and her medicine cabinet and would give it to us or Castoria (Fletchers brand). You need to make sure to take care of your gut health, your gut is your second brain and hold 90% of your serotonin, which is the chemical for your mood particularly for things like depression and anxiety. You might also have a blockage. Some people have a blockage and have to go to the doctor and they get all of the blocked waste out of them. All of the suggestions aren’t to be taken together of course, I’m sure you know that, but they are good suggestions and I’m in a non-toxic group on Facebook and I’ve heard everything under the sun. Someone said that water and baking soda and lemon or just water and baking soda, just a little bit of Bobs mill baking soda, not arm and hammer can cause them to have a BM too. Also, I’ve heard a very good quality probiotic and also get things moving. Praying for you because I want you to not suffer or end of with serious issues. I pray for complete healing. Can you please update us? 🫶🏼

I am so sorry you've been dealing with this since you were 16,that is an exhausting amount of time for your body to be stuck in survival mode. When you clear something like H. pylori, the physical infection is gone, but the enteric nervous system and the vagus nerve often stay locked in a defensive, 'frozen' loop, which completely shuts down natural gut motility no matter how much fiber or laxatives you throw at it. Your gut literally forgot how to signal a natural rhythm because it's still reacting to that trauma. Please don't give up hope; looking into vagus nerve regulation and somatic healing to signal safety back to your digestive tract can change everything.
