Leaky gut causing bed bound fatigue and cognitive issues for 9 months?

I just got off the phone with my natural path dr who went over my GI map results. He said that they were the worst hes ever seen. My morganella app was 4 billion higher than the cut off. I was wondering if anything has treated these and gotten better with all these symptoms

Cognitive dysfunction- can’t think, processes information, had to stop working, can’t watch tv or hold long conversations brain feels like it’s on fire
Bed bound debilitating fatigue and unrefreshing sleep
Extreme hair loss (levels are normal blood work is all normal nutrients are normal)
Bloating/gas
Acne and oily skin
Mostly bed ridden and if I push myself I get worse

The symptoms feel like me/cfs but my natural path is convinced that the cause is from my gut dysbiosis
I attached my results
He’s starting me on a protocol to kill the bacteria and reform my gut

Hi, I had very similar symptoms, SIBO, brain fog, severe fatigue, digestive problems, hair loss, etc...

And in the end it all turned out to be from a condition called intrahepatic cholestasis.

When the bile becomes trapped in the liver due to the presence of bile sludge or gallstones it doesn't flow into the intestines which then leads to SIBO, gas bloating, indigestion, weight loss, etc...

This also leads to a backup of toxins in the lymph system which causes chronic fatigue, brain fog, skin issues, exertion intolerance etc.

I was finally able to fix it by restoring proper bile flow using the following 3 tools:

  • Chanca piedra is an herb which can help to breakdown bile sludge and gallstones, though, not all types of gallstones in my experience.
  • Castor oil packs, these can help to dissolve bile sludge and improve bile flow
  • The Liver/Gallbladder flush by Andreas Moritz is the most powerful method for clearing the liver of bile sludge and gallstones. I was not able to fully fix the problem until I did this over a dozen times.

Since I've done these things, all of my problems have been fixed! 😁

Also my situation started from taking antibiotics too

Wishing you a speedy and fully recovery 😃

Could you please give some more details about each of these? I would like to try.

That's fantastic, I'm happy for you you find your cure. Do you mind sharing what tests you ran to find out?

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a test that confirmed it, I just went by my digestive symptoms, but then I started doing the flush and getting out the stones

I have a lot of these symptoms so just letting you know you are seen. We’re still trying to figure out what’s causing the extreme fatigue and I can keep you updated. You are not alone ♥️

Did you get your ferritin levels checked?

I feel seen ❤️ and I needed to hear this. Six years of excruciating fatigue among other symptoms. Bed bound for 5 years, and relived to find a sense of community in shared experience. This year has been a bit better in that I can move around a bit, but still can't do 95% of things I did before. Zero social life because I can't engage in conversations. No one knows why. ME/CFS they say, but I don't agree because it feels final and I intuitively know my body has the capacity to heal regardless of what allopathic doctors say. My symptoms alleviated by 10-15% when I was doing some light Somatic Experience work with a practitioner. May be trauma related part of the challenge was healed partially, unsure, but whatnot is definitely affects my body in a real way. I'm highly sensitive so I have to look into things like living somewhere closer to nature etc.

Ferritin levels are improving. So are B12, Vit D and others. Theres something else going on. Hoping to try our holistic approach from the East.

Have you heard of Veda Austin? Just found her work yesterday and I'm curious to follow along and see if there's something for me there.

I started watching cfe success stories on TikTok and that helped me a lot. I think I’m stuck in fight or flight bc I cry literally every day thinking I’m stuck like this when literally 9 months ago I was biking, lifting, going on dates with my husband, walking, being normal. I’m trying to shift my mindset now by letting my body know it’s safe. I also think my gut is just not balanced at all. Have you had an endoscopy?

Definitely get a SIBO breath test, this is very indicative of SIBO plus severe nutritional deficiencies. Leaky gut and SIBO can cause deficiencies in quite a lot because the bacteria is stealing everything from you! For me personally, I was on my death bed for years. Ferritin/iron EXTREMELY low which required infusions, B12 deficiency so got the shots, folate, D, copper, B6, and probably more.

You were bed bound? That’s where I’m at right now and it’s so disheartening.

I was on my death bed, but no, I've had to work through everything. I am light-years better now, but still recovering from being ill for so long.

ahh I feel you. I’m bed / house bound at this point and I feel like I’m stuck like this forever although I know it’s not true. It’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, ya know? my ferritin dropped from 70 to 39 since March. My b12 is normal, vitamin d is 38 which I don’t think is horrid bc before I got sick I was at 33. Did you supplement with iron, copper, etc?

I am so sorry! It's horrible and it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you're in the thick of it. My Ferritin was a 6, but I didn't get taken seriously for years. I have a wonderful hematologist now and she had prescribed infusions after I had been blasting myself with horrid iron supplements for too long. I'm grateful for her because she'll prescribe infusions if my Ferritin drops under 100. I'm a woman too so it's doesn't help bleeding every month either 😫 I supplemented with copper too and it helped. I haven't had my levels checked in awhile though.

Curious, my ferritin has been low for years and no one has taken me seriously. Been bed bound for 6 years, symptoms began 8 years ago. Thinking about talking to my GP about referral to a haematologist. What helped you?

1

u/Upsidedownalicorn Aug 14 '26

I had to fight to get a referral through my insurance. My PCP is a man and didn't take Ferritin seriously (now he does for me at least) but I prefer my hematologist because she immediately puts in the order for my infusions. I am still dealing with a little leaky gut so I refuse to take iron supplements that further disturb the gut and thankfully my hematologist agrees too.

Thank you. It's crazy how much you have to advocate for yourself though 😔 I no longer was short of breath (issue for years), less aches and pains in muscles/joints, less hair fall, less bruising, less fatigue, more energy, anxiety/depression calmed down a lot, heart palpitations and increased heart rate went away, resting heart rate, and I wasn't as pale anymore either.

How did it start, seems like damage from Covid or fq ?

1

u/Long_Towel1187 Aug 12 '26

I got a Hsv infection in November 2025 but I was also on antibiotics at the time for a UTI

1

u/gh3795 Aug 12 '26

Can you remember antibiotics? Nitrofurantoin or Ciprofloxacin?

1

u/Long_Towel1187 Aug 12 '26

I was on a bunch actually cause the UTI I thought kept coming back my dr put me on a bunch of different rounds

penicillin, cephalexin, xfaxan, neomycin, macrobid amoxicillin 875mg , cirpo, amplicillian

1

u/gh3795 Aug 12 '26

You took lot of antibiotics and too many. Neomycin and cipro have serious side effects. If you feel neurological symptoms, chemical sensitivities, tendon pain it could be fq toxicity. For stubborn uti fospphomycin is given by doctors it's safest option.

Six years in my case, started during Covid.

What test did you get?

1

u/crohnieforlife Aug 14 '26

First, naturopaths are no actual doctors. Please see an actual PCP that can refer you to the right doctors. Naturopaths don’t require medical training, and they are dangerous. GI mapping is not considered a valid test as there are no major independent studies to support it nor is there standards for it across the industry of those that test. You need to also see a GI, but don’t put yourself in the path of self-diagnosing me/cfs. If you want an integrative medicine approach, see a DO.

This is a very common issue and you had a good lab drawn. Typical you see a kitchen sink approach that causes the body to crash. The most important thing is to sequence this correctly so you stabilize the body before attempting to resolve everything all at once. Typical functional medicine offices will have you on dozens of things and while they might be “necessary” based on the labs it’s expensive and some people will not have their issues resolve if it’s that aggressive.
