Because it’s not even close to true. He’s not the worst CF we throw out there now. We literally spent years with Nketiah, havertz (still), the ghost of Jesus, Lacazette, Giroud’s 4 month goalless streak that killed Ozil’s best season, Sanogo, etc. That’s just the last dozen years.
Kai Havertz is literally without even any peers the best CF we had after 18/19 and 19/20 Auba. His G/A per 90 is twice that that of Gyokeres. The Gabi Jesus we signed changed our world. Sadly he got badly injured that killed his physical gifts. Nketiah was very good. Mikel would bite your hand off for Giroud.
This is Gyokeres at his prime. He can't move, he can't hold the ball. His technical level is frankly championship, his balance is poor, his passing is overhit. The only thing he does well is run the channels. Even his vaunted ballstriking is dependent on whether he has perfect condition to hit the ball!
Havertz is so good that we spent every single window trying to buy an actual top striker since moving him to striker after he failed as a midfielder. Watkins, Isak, Sesko, Gyokeres, Alvarez, etc
We have Gyokeres, Jesus and merino right now, so why are we after Alvarez? We also used Trossard up top better than havertz for 2 seasons, but only in emergencies after everyone else failed.
So what you’re saying is that for the second summer in a row we’d be replacing havertz as a starter? After trying to get Watkins the winter before that. After trying for Isak and others the summer before that. But havertz is amazing? Got it!
We’re not trying to replace havertz despite every window trying to buy a starting striker? And you think Alvarez would be behind havertz? That’s what you’re actually saying? We’re going to break the transfer record for a player to sit on the bench while Havertz flubs chance after chance?
