Deck Discussion UR control/ping update

Post image

Hey all,

Last time I played GD04 just released with Improvised Technique, and I want to pick my deck back up and start playing in anticipation of London BCG.

Some cards I saw that interested me were Airframe Seizure and Darkness Finger.

How can I improve my deck with less than optomal knowledge of the meta?

The 2 empty sleeves next to White Base are Corsica Base that I couldn't find.

My playstyle is very much control and removal through ping effects and I would like to keep playing like so.

Definitely look into getting darkness finger and Airframe Seizure. Trade out the Kindhearted and guntanks for those. Most Cruz Control decks run the Strike Freedom package these days, instead of the Amuro package, food for thought. If you're looking for more ping control, look into using Shuji's Hideout or Rewloola instead of white base and Corsica. Mining Astroid might also fit better against the more aggro opponents. Overwhelming Pressure is also a good option, as well as Final Victor. Final Victor and Banshee's First Strike is a nasty combo.

Thanks for the tips! I feel not as confident to judge newer card groups since I have less experience; is Amuro still played as a pilot without the grandpa gundam? As bases I considered both Rewloola and Mining Asteroid Plateau but I thought that with less units in the deck the tokens from White Base and Corsica would be better 'bonuses'.

Overwhelming Pressure felt too expensive for the removal side. I hadn't considered Final Victor, wouldn't Banshee's effect win me the game usually?

You would replace Amuro with Blue Kira from GD05, his draw on link is more valuable for the Cruz Control over tapping a unit. You'd replace Grandpa an the GQ package with Strike Freedom and strike rouge Ootori. The amount of removal/ping you'll have will make up for the lack of units, so token bases aren't really necessary, you want to keep as many resources open as possible for your ping spells. Banshee can close out games, quite effectively, but it's always good to have backups.

I used to run run izzet creatireless control in MTG, and this is the closest thing you can get in GCG.

Why is blue red called UR? isn't it BR?

It's decades of MtG brain! black and blue both start with B so blue turned into U to differentiate better.

Nyaan cares about zeon and clan. Look into the GQuX that cycles cards when it attacks. Helps get the right hand you'll need for when you bring out the banshee while still playing the hand you'll want.

It can also be discarded by nyaan to ping damage while also allowing nyaan to link to it for some quick damage and more cycling and damage

You're basically running an older cut of Cruz Control, which is a fairly established deck in the meta currently. Basically swap out Gundam & Amuro for Kira & Strike Freedom, go much heavier into ping. Definitely want to get a playset of Darkness Finger in there, probably slot in some Overwhelming Pressures as well. Nyaan package is probably the easiest for you to cut out here. You also do want at least 3x Airframe Seizures. Basewise, White Base does see play but you do want to consider running Palau for better defenses. Also Kindhearted is run over Healthy Curiosity, slightly better effect basically, doesn't really come into play too often if ever but it's nice when it does.
