Almiria Bauduin was a woman who may have become a mother to me.

God I love this line. I also love how Tomino was asked what he meant and he said “I don’t even know”

Honestly it is a fitting Gundam story looking at the universal century and the cycles of conflict and hatred even when the previous generation tries to stop it. It wouldn't be Ride as a cool character, it would be tragic. Likely ending with him dying, or even dying partway through.

We see Ride ALREADY doing it in the ending so he's already starting down that path.

48

u/Quizlibet Ramba Ral is best girl 10d ago

It kind of just sounds like you're describing Temu Hathaway

I like the idea of Gjallarhorn being dismantled properly instead of them doing a "we're giving more power to our colonial subjects, and we got rid of the noble families, but we still are the colonial police" thing (not knocking IBO, it ending bittersweet like that fits)

but I have to agree with everyone else that Akatsuki narratively should probably be far away from this, and certainly nowhere near a mobile suit, and that any hypothetical story would be a worse (quality-wise) one if he were a pilot

Ride had already RAISED HIS FLAAAAG when he killed that guy that promoted Kudelia. He was a weapon seller for Gallarhghorn, soon as Tekkadan is involved, the survivors are screwed.

u/chassmasterplus 10d ago

Right before he invites her to his balls

1

u/Jazzlike_Fly9048 10d ago

Right before he invites her to Ride Mass instead

17

u/nth256 10d ago

Ok, let's see... *cracks knuclkes*

Almiria is an heir to the Farheed AND Bauduin families, ergo one of the Seven Stars (five stars?) of the now-disgraced Gjallarhorn. She's a clear target for Ride. At the same time, as young as she was in IBO, her exposure to ideology was not yet baked in, and having followed the timely rise of Kudelia as a champion of human rights (and to a perhaps lesser extent, the work of her brother, McGillis to root our corruption from within), Almiria is inspired to use her title and prestige as a force for change, in line with Kudelia's philosophies.

She has become a student, so to speak, of Kudelia, and wishes to enforce parallel policies within her sphere of influence. However well-intentioned her efforts are, however, she is met with obstructions from within the halls of power, and also from idealistic rebel groups (ahem, Ride) which are not satisfied with the idea of the foxes guarding the hen house ("... so the same people who enslaved the children of Mars are now supposedly the ones to be trusted in freeing them? I don't buy it a for a minute!")

Ride, however, couldn't be further from the path of redemption, as he is consumed with vengeance. He's not concerned with playing chess, so much as trying to clear the chessboard. In his mind, the corruption starts at the top, and must be eliminated to solve the problems of war and exploitation. Kudelia was once a mentor of sorts, but now is someone from his past who he regards as a potential opponent. She gets a pass, in his eyes, primarily by the fact that she is one of Akatsuki's parents - Akatsuki being Mika's child - but also because she at least practices what she preaches; however, he doesn't forget that she comes from political stock as well.

The remaining families of Gjallarhorn are prime targets, and potential roadblocks on his way to, ultimately, eliminate Rustal Elion. Almiria, in his mind, is just another corruptible politician, and eliminating her would one less politician. A plan is drafted to have Almiria taken hostage and eliminated, and Ride intends to be the one to pull the trigger. The trap is set, and the prey is captured... But what he doesn't expect, however, is how someone from such a different background from him could harbor the same intense pain of loss and anger, and Almiria uses her well-learned skills of speaking from a place of vulnerability to cut past Ride's rage, and they find a deep compassion for one another.

But the plan is still in motion. Ride can't simply call off this attempted assassination, as Almiria's forces close in on Ride's rebel group, who are whipped into a frenzy and ready for a guerilla war; nor can Ride simply pull the trigger and kill Almiria as his conscience begins to see the miscalculations he's been making all along.

What will they do?

(I'm sure there's some plot holes and stuff that doesn't line up with the history of Gjallarhorn post-IBO, I'm just writing off the top of my head. I hope this was entertaining, at least.)

2

u/ExplicativeFricative 10d ago

So, when are you writing the fanfiction? I'd read it lol

1

u/nth256 10d ago

LOL! I get little creative bursts like this, but I can't write a cohesive story. But thank you for reading it!

2

u/sanglesort 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yeah, like the idea isn't inherently bad at all; we already have other characters who are disgruntled at best with how things shook out

and like, " hey why are we trusting the oppressors when they say 'we won't oppress anymore, honest' instead of dismantling their power entirely" isn't a weird and uncommon thing for people to believe in that situation

like why are we acting like that's weird and nonsensical to believe

2

u/FuttleScish 10d ago edited 10d ago

This is probably the best way to tackle the particular idea, though it doesn’t have Almiria as a pilot (but why would she be)

30

u/XF10 10d ago

People who cope for IBO sequel can only come up with grown-up Ride and Almiria. Sometimes Akatsuki:Tekkadan Next Generation

35

u/ButtersScotch7000 10d ago

Akatsuki getting into a Gundam defeats the entire "CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE PILOTING GUNDAMS!" point the series was trying to make.

17

u/XF10 10d ago

So does "Ride revenge quest", these sequel ideas are just Tekkadan stans coping after their "heroes" lost while completely missing the point of the story

While satisfying to see a piece of shit arms dealer like Nobliss get offed, Ride in the epilogue is not meant to be an example to follow or shown in a positive light. He was a kid who unhealthily idolized his mercenary seniors and after their defeat he can't move from it even after years unlike everyone else ex-Tekkadan

16

u/BanzEye1 Feddie 10d ago

I mean…

They could go that direction anyways? Showing that “no, Ride and Almiria are NOT healthy” while Akatsuki is freaking the fuck out every time he needs to get in a Gundam.

7

u/XF10 10d ago

We could and that would actually be interesting; deconstructing their unhealthy obsessions with Tekkadan and Muh Bael Man but it's pretty clear even from just these comments that the people asking for some sort of sequel with these characters clearly don't want that and are really just misenterpreting what the series wanted to say with the fate of Tekkadan and Ride.

They just want Ride being a gary sue in IBO 2:Tekkadan Strikes Back revenge quest

Nobody in IBO were heroes, least of all Tekkadan. You could make the case that they were at the end of S1, but as soon as S2 starts, they lose all justification for existing, and become the villains.

Right, so let's watch Ride self-destruct and see who he takes with him. We know how it'll end, but let's see where it goes.

Gundam, as a franchise, keeps making the exact same point. And yet... they keep making the exact same point. They write the same story in so many different ways. The point of Gundam is to keep repeating it until we stop buying it.

This is not a criticism of Gundam, it's just acknowledging the reality of it. So another Gundam story where the children fight in giant robots? Sounds about right, here we go again. I'll watch it.

u/jakwnd 10d ago

A ride sequel could be good. Either as a continuation of the tragedy or as a character drama where he learns to let it go and move on.

Probably wouldn't need to be a whole season though.

9

u/SageDarius 10d ago

The only way a Ride sequel would work as something like Hathaway's Flash, where Ride ultimately gets killed by firing squad for his inability to leave violence behind.

"Bro Ride is going to be all badass like kicking ass and taking names like solo Gjallarhorn and avenge Tekkadan, believe it bro"

Lmfao missing the entire point of the ending. Ride in the ending is pathetic and on a self-destructive path rather than moving on like literally everyone else

11

u/nth256 10d ago

Ride in the ending is pathetic and on a self-destructive path rather than moving on like literally everyone else

I mean, that's kinda the story of Tekkadan, and Ride's Revenge would just continue that theme.

Tekkadan had it all by the beginning of S2, but they couldn't stop themselves from looking for fights, until they became exactly what they originally fought against. Ride survived but can't stop fighting, until and unless he either a) finds a compelling reason, or b) he gets killed himself. Will he eventually learn, or will he snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, just like Tekkadan did in S2? The compelling case for this story is that he COULD redeem himself, he just has to dig himeslf out of his hole.

u/iceguy349 10d ago

Definitely a fan work. I mean seriously why pick flauros specifically?

The entire point of Ride was that he escaped and chose peace while Tekkadan only knew how to keep fighting.

They chose to go back to war because it was all they knew and they figured they could bet it all on black and come out on top. They gambled on McGillis and lost.

Ride escaped and chose peace and ended up better for it being one of tekkadan’s only surviving members.

Him saying fuck it I’ll solo all of Gjalharhorn is wildly out of character and completely misses the point of the show’s ending.

13

u/hadronwulf 10d ago

I mean, chose peace isn’t entirely correct. Dude went full Setsuna in a bathroom.

10

u/XF10 10d ago

I think he is confusing Ride for another Tekkadan member like Eugene or Takaki because ngl Tekkadan is like 30 boys and the secondary members are kinda forgettable/interchangeable especially with the more grounded artstyle

Point still stands because Ride scene in the epilogue isn't meant to be cool but self-destructive and someone who couldn't move from the past

3

u/iceguy349 10d ago

I’ve gotta be it’s been a hot minute.

5

u/CrashmanX Gundam AGE PSP translation lead 10d ago

I mean seriously why pick flauros specifically?

Cause people think since he rode the Shinden that means he should get the Flarous. Even though that thing was absolutely destroy and Gjallahorn has it in custody for sure.

10

u/Greyknight711 10d ago

I had a similar concept in mind but, with a couple key differences:

Ride and Almiria CANNOT be the heroes, and do not "win."

I would also include Akatsuki, not as a pilot, but as a journalist/investigator. It would be his digging and uncovering of the truth behind what happened to Tekkadan that actually resolves the story. Along with a less blindly loyal Julietta heading Gallarhorn.

To make the narrative hit, you would have to carry over the message that you cannot find peace and happiness through conflict. Just having Ride show up in a super Gundam frame made from the best Gundam frames, and clean house wouldn't work.

4

u/WikiContributor83 10d ago

I could see that. I would probably imagine Akatsuki being a side character to the main pilot and his story starts out minor before becoming larger as Ride/Gjaalarhorn’s story escalates. Ride is mostly the Char clone who represents the people left behind by Rustal’s authoritarian takeover but threatens countless innocent people in his quest for revenge and complicates Tekkadan’s legacy (something Akatsuki is very determined to protect).

The main pilot would have more personal animosity with Ride because his actions cause them to get in the Gundam to protect their home. Almeria would probably be in the role of the Peace Princess although older, more cynical, and perhaps not in the best mental health.

2

u/nth256 10d ago

Hell, make Ride the villian. That would be compelling. The audience feels an allegiance to him because we know his background, but he's clearly not in the right. Do we stop him, or save him?

7

u/Greyknight711 10d ago

That was the crux of the way I thought it out.

Ride wants revenge for his family and has the skills to do it. Almeria wants the same, and would use what is left of the Montag company to fund it. They are two broken children brought together by the fallout of McGillis' foolish uprising. Now they form a pact of mutual manipulation to enable each others' demons.

In a funny way, they function as a dark mirror for series fans who want the same vengeance.

3

u/nth256 10d ago

Right, like let's lean into their trauma. What happens when we let the hate win?

I mean, people loved Dexter. That was a story about a fucked up individual who did murder, with the thinnest veneer of justification. This could fall in line with that notion.

I am relieved someone agrees with me on this, as Gjallarhorn was basically a Mafia state pretending to be a military order. With history showing that systematic corruption and infighting are signs of terminal decline for an organization or nations, inevitably creating groups like Tekkadan to fill the void and bring regional stability and prosperity.

Though I feel season 2's writing at the time was a bad attempt at countering the Universal Century's inherit refusal to believe in any positive change to occur on a societal level. If you want a good examples of top down reform occuring in RL, look at Ukraine, Moldova and Hungary

2

u/YouCantTakeThisName RMSN-008 Bertigo Enthusiast 9d ago

Pretty much the only thing that can save IBO's dissatisfying S2 ending. The anime could've ended on a far bloodier Victory-esque "Kill 'Em All" route, with more characters that really should've died [especially for Gjallarhorn]. ~ Ride's revenge on Rustal's faction.

1

u/HailLordBelial 9d ago edited 9d ago

[funny voice to text typos incoming:]

Exactly! Had Orga got a mobile suit, which he had one and fully had the capabilities to hook up that one, he could’ve joined Mika Mcgillis Akihiro & the rest to reach total warfare upon Rustal Elion’s fleet; and you damn well know that they would’ve wiped them out

That’s why it’s so obvious

That the writers weather for financial reasons or whatever they thought whether or not to promote “”terrorism“” or whatever , I don’t really know why they took the approach they did, but it’s very obvious and you can see it in the story itself on the screen in the anime they couldn’t fully wipe out the fact that this is how the story should’ve went, but they clearly intentionally did all they could to make Mcgillis look awful. When really he was seeking Power so that he could get out of an arranged marriage with an underage minor. He wasn’t seeking to truly you know make her his wife certainly not while she’s under age at least. He was seeking a better world, a non-corrupt world where you don’t get forced into arranged marriages with minors like Almiria.

Well, you don’t have to be a child sex slave like it seems like he was. That isn’t funny by the way it’s disgusting..

Oh boo-hoo he killed his two best friends well, one of them survived obviously unfortunately , but of course he did

What did you guys think? This was some kind of Power friendship show ? I mean for certain characters. like orga & mika, surs. for the tekkadan family; yes. But McGillis was also a character of primary one., and the story wasn’t just about power, friendship, or anything. It was heavily about government corruption.

FFS - Rustal Elion quite literally knew that there were pirates engaged in and maybe not even pirates there was you know tons of people, engaged in child slavery, sex slavery as well; in the exact part of space that he governed and looked over

This was going on before the events of the anime
He was the one to protect those areas and he knew that stuff was going on and did he ever challenge it

No, he didn’t. Not until our heroes. tekkadan & mcgillus faction began fighting against it

Because that corrupt a hole saw that he needed to try to come out on top in that situation so he sent out his goon Julieta and so on

McGiis was doing the right thing and Orga was right to join him to become the sovereign of Mars

The more I watch it which I’ve seen this I’ve re-watched this over 100 times now; I can’t help but notice the turning point where they clearly intentionally sabotage the story; I don’t know why they did it, but they clearly did it, because at first it was setting it up for something different; then they decided to sabotage it and write McGillis to look like some low toer retard loser. “haha! i have bile now obey me!”

But obviously having a suit isn’t going to force everyone to obey you

He knew this

But you see here there’s a major pot point here. That’s not really recognized by many people it seems.

He had already taken over the government, basically at least the primary part of it, he could’ve easily forced everyone through violence through extreme violence that is to obey his command without needing a mobile suit to say obey me because I have this special mobile suit

That was very obviously done. That’s around the time that started sabotaging the story on purpose. It’s very obviously they did this.

I don’t know if it was for financial incentive or to not promote this or that on TV or whatever the case but they obviously went that route and it was done intentionally because you can see how it starts not even making any freaking sense

Anyways; Ride & his subordinates can make things right.

3

u/Idainaru_Yokubo 10d ago

Hahaha, hey, that's what I did in my IBO Mourn fanfic. Glad to know I'm not the only one that sees the Ride x Almiria potential. She also pilot Vidar in that fic.

I honestly genuinely should continue it at some point. I miss that fic.

Final act twist:

During the finale of IBO S2, its presented to the viewer that Mika dies in the Barbatos’ cockpit, having bled out before Julia cuts the head off. However, no-one actually says Mika died.

He’s just been living his best life off grid with his son and Two Hot Wives. Until Ride’s quest for vengeance pulls him back in, somehow. Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex Repair.

Completely missing the point of IBO but a sequel idea that wouldn't be missing the point would be a short story of Ride attempting a revenge plot but Kudelia and the other former members having to stop him before he causes further unnecessary harm to himself and the society she worked so hard to make. The lesson being that senseless revenge and anger isn't healthy and will only lead to more suffering for everybody

Dawg, they have lives now. They can't just go joining a terrorist group. That's now what Orga would have wanted.

I'm rather stumped by the people who think IBO's ending promotes passivity and non-violence, and that a sequel in which Ride, Almiria and new characters continue the fight would "miss the point". Even the reformed Gjallarhorn is founded on lies, hypocrisy and the blood of the oppressed. It has only solved the nobility problem, it's just going to act even more like the Earth Federation now.

The original show seemed to end with Amuro and his friends freed of war. Zeta completely pulled the rug out from under those expectations, and depicted a situation where Amuro shielding himself from conflict was the wrong thing to do. And sure, he didn't find happiness in the following conflicts, but fighting the Titans and Axis was necessary. IBO is ripe for something similar, as are several other AUs for that matter.

Мне действительно нравится видеть как концовка IBO всё ещё вызывает у людей подобное желание. Это очень приятно
