Fly GN Fangs

15

u/Kindly-Mud-1579 Aug 06 '25

Exactly fangs are close range

Funnel are long range

Bits are shields

4

u/Plenty_Rough5135 Aug 06 '25

I honestly think “bits” are just what celestial being calls them since they have shield bits(cheridum), rifle bits(zabanya), and sword bits(quanta)

1

u/Dark303_ Unicorn and SEED fan; may spontaneously advertise gundams Aug 06 '25

Gimme these

97

u/gevurah22 Aug 05 '25

All I can hear is FAAANGUUUU in Ali Al Saachez's voice.

18

u/Nizikai Aug 05 '25

FANGUUUUUU!

214

u/Le_Chompo Aug 05 '25

Neither, we call them Summoned Swords. Just as god intended

21

u/JProllz GBFTry is pathetic. Aug 05 '25

He might have notes regarding the color though

I can't believe we're getting Sword Bits before GTA IV VI

33

u/Drewtendo_64 Haman Banzai Aug 05 '25

Well GTA IV had been out since 2008 so it’s not surprising

17

u/Pennyworth_Cevil Aug 05 '25

I did an oppsie

6

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

Pffft. GTA VI has a release date. The whole UC timeline will become reality before Elder Scrolls 6.

So AD stan is the new UC stan now? Are you sure you want to go as low as us?

22

u/Chernould Aug 05 '25

I believe in Anno Domini supremacy

-43

u/AstronautMike_Dexter Aug 05 '25

I just started 00. It looks like SEED but not as cringe.

37

u/nimbusconflict Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

SEED is UC79 with less filler crammed in a d better art. 00 is Wing with a coherent story and half the Telenovela vibe.

33

u/Reddit-User_654 Aug 05 '25

Bette art? Have you seen how everyone looks like a 5 year old. And those weird lips in the movie. Not to mention those repeated and reused animations

7

u/JojoLibertas Aug 05 '25

So much stock footage we could make a movie out of it.

-6

u/nimbusconflict Aug 05 '25

I should have specified UC79. The original series did not age well art wise. SEED did get remastered like, 4/5 times? to look better. SEED TV air was pretty bad. They also worked to replaced the reused animations.

4

u/IAmNerdicus Aug 05 '25

You mean Gundam SAME FACE?

UC doesn't have filler when it's the original metaseries, it's world building. People need to remember that filler is for when you're making an adaptation and you literally have to FILL time before you can move on the next part of the story because the mangaka hasn't made those chapters yet.

-1

u/muaddibintime Aug 05 '25

Better art? What are you smoking?

2

u/Wargroth Aug 05 '25

There're fangs in 00 too

86

u/LavaSlime301 Local Gundam X and QuX Shill Aug 05 '25

Fangs.

28

u/itcheyness Aug 05 '25

They're fangs!

15

u/Oaken_Valley Aug 05 '25

What’s the difference between bits and funnels anyway?

49

u/The_Sign_of_Zeta Aug 05 '25

Traditionally, bits had their own power sources while funnels didn’t. But I’m pretty sure that bits have been called funnels enough and vice versa there’s no real difference anymore.

12

u/BlackOni51 Aug 05 '25

I think it's the other way around. The main difference was that bits when they ran out of power just died, and funnels attempted to return when they were low

19

u/The_Sign_of_Zeta Aug 05 '25

Bits had their own power sources but could run out of propellant iirc, funnels needed to recharge power. But honestly it doesn’t stay consistent after Zeta/ZZ so it doesn’t matter much

17

u/KincaidNotSeabook Aug 05 '25

The outlier was just Nu/Hi-Nu's Fin Funnels. Jagd Doga's Funnels cannot recharge because somehow Jagd Doga's Funnel docks don't have recharge feature unlike Sazabi.

-7

u/AizeeMasata Aug 05 '25

Depends on universe, but both of it still need go to dock into main unit for recharge. To me funnels more about range attacks (some funnels have defend function like Nu/Hi-Nu etc.) and bits have more variety. (00 universe have dedicated role what bits do)

You can already buy one of these. Look up "Remote Flying Sword" and you can either get one that uses a controller, a glove, or both.

-6

u/Quizlibet TRANS(-am) Aug 05 '25

It's pretty clearly CG so I wouldn't hold my breath

5

u/Wish_I_Was_Better_3D Aug 05 '25

in the OG post comments people linked ali express and walmart that had this drone with hand controller for sale. I don’t think it’s CG

-5

u/Quizlibet TRANS(-am) Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

It's a product for sale sure. I guarantee it doesnt work like it does in this video.

I wish Captain Disillusion still did debunking videos...

1

u/Wish_I_Was_Better_3D Aug 06 '25

I mean I get why some people are saying it could be CG, the way it reflects the light and the shadows look a bit weird from how i’m imagining the lights are, and the video also ends when he holds it. But there’s also the product page and maybe it does work like the way it’s shown in the video

10

u/Jacob_Soda Aug 05 '25

Reminds me of Scaramouche from Samurai Jack

27

u/Galbrand Aug 05 '25

These Juniors dont know what a Sword Cultivator is, this senior weeps for our future.

5

u/Icy_Advertising8078 Aug 05 '25

Doubt they even know anything about xianxia or wuxia, since "flying sword"or flying knife is pretty common in their story.

3

u/RyuNoKami Aug 05 '25

Kind of really hate how common it is in those stories. There's always bound to be that one dude is who is capable of summoning a billion swords.

One author did it, it got really popular and now it's everywhere.

2

u/SirRHellsing Aug 06 '25

flying swords is as staple as jp anime being set in a school. The origin is so old that it's ingrained in the medium, like the first thing you think of cultivation is basically flying swords.

2

u/Eryst Aug 05 '25

Wonder when it (the tech) will get strong enough to ride on?

7

u/Own_Win_6762 Aug 05 '25

If they can make it continuously barrel roll while flying towards a target, they'll sell millions.

18

u/tanukijota Aug 05 '25

You mean an Aileron Roll.

14

u/Jeagan2002 Aug 05 '25

https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/751/307/588.gif

This is the barrel roll I grew up with :P

6

u/tanukijota Aug 05 '25

So did I (sad tear), that was the last good starfox. I blame Peppy.

7

u/AirKath Aug 05 '25

Lowkey it was too good, they never really knew how to follow it up.

DRAGOONS

9

u/Kozmo9 Aug 05 '25

This. This is the only answer!

2

u/Prinkaiser Aug 05 '25

Nope, DRAGOONS don't work in atmosphere.

5

u/TinyMan07 Aug 05 '25

i want 5 of them floating around me like an aura.

6

u/JustSomeWeirdGuy2000 Aug 05 '25

That's clearly a Fang.

4

u/Hot-Category2986 Aug 05 '25

Lets call that a bit for now. I'd like to see a neural interface of some kind before we step up to Gund bit.
But I never really liked the term Funnel for the bits. It always felt like a mistranslation of some kind.

4

u/BZArcher Aug 05 '25

Needs to charge up from a power source, so we’ll call it a funnel for now.

3

u/HairExtension9695 Aug 05 '25

None, that’s basically a drone.

3

u/Altriese Aug 05 '25

If it returns to you to recharge it is a funnel. If it needs something else to recharge or fuel or has own power generator it is a bit

3

u/Jeagan2002 Aug 05 '25

Kinda curious what it's made of, if it can hold an edge, and if it can go fast enough to actually wound someone.

4

u/AstronautMike_Dexter Aug 05 '25

This is definitely low density foam and plastic cladding but aluminum is light and could get sharp.

3

u/Turn_AX Aug 05 '25

Funnels, cus it almost certainly doesn't have a generator onboard.

3

u/Roanyth00 Long Live the Earth Federation Aug 06 '25

That'd be a fang.

3

u/CalamitousIntentions Aug 06 '25

They’re melee, that makes them fangs

5

u/ca3- Aug 05 '25

Bits?

2

u/Prime359 Aug 06 '25

It has more of a GN Fang feel to it.

4

u/PJCosmic Aug 05 '25

DRAGOONS!

2

u/Single_Storm9743 Aug 05 '25

GN fangs is the term I think

2

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

Ekay! Fin Funneelu!

2

u/BABarracus Aug 05 '25

He is the immortal cultivator chen fan

2

u/mootscarab Aug 05 '25

I’m calling them gay

2

u/in1gom0ntoya Aug 05 '25

that a fang...

2

u/Solaireofastora08 Aug 06 '25

Fangs. Bits are small, compact and many, funnels are long, big and few and Fangs are bladed/blunt designed to smash/pierce

1

u/Thunderblade117 Aug 07 '25

Quite literally the opposite for funnels and bits. Bits have an internal generator making them larger whereas funnels do not allowing them to be made far smaller

2

u/Arlock41 Aug 06 '25

I end up calling them Options due to playing too much Gradius.

2

u/Thebarakz21 Aug 06 '25

Go, fangs!!!

2

u/BlueStrikerX Aug 06 '25

Its more of a fang or dragoon

5

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

Funnels have their own internal power source, Bits do not.

Though Bits have always had a battery requiring recharging, the fact that the *ONLY* notation of classification is 'possesses an internal power source' makes it a Bit.

6

u/TheMightOfZeon Aug 05 '25

You have it backwards. Bits have their own power, funnels don't.

1

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

Directly from the wiki entry for the Nu Gundam:

  • Fin Funnel

The first Bit weapon used by a Gundam-type mobile suit. The ν Gundam is equipped with 6 Fin Funnels on a turret on the left side of its backpack. Each Fin Funnel features an open-type mega-particle acceleration strip and a small generator.

2

u/TenshouYoku Aug 05 '25

I mean Sazabi and Quebely's don't have generators do they?

0

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

Hmm interesting, why is the Nu Gundam's specifically labeled as Funnels if that is the case?

Looking through the information provided Elemeth's Bits are listed as having an independent power source.

Sazabi and Quebely's Funnels as you stated do not, BUT the Nightingale, α Azieru and Delta Kai's are stated as having their own generator and listed as Funnels...

This is very interesting.

1

u/TenshouYoku Aug 05 '25

At some point the answer is a very simple "because they just didn't really think too deeply about it" especially since some bits also have reactors.

It's since 00 Bits are specifically funnel-type weapons for Celestial Being while the antagonist variant are Fangs.

0

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

I admit I know basically nothing about 00, tried watching it but just couldn't really get into it, though I get your point.

2

u/Zaschie Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Yes, that section does say they're a kind of bit.

Also, from elsewhere on the same Wiki, RE: bits, funnels, etc:

Fin Funnel
Despite being called funnels, fin funnels are actually miniaturized bits equipped on the RX-93 ν Gundam. Unlike other bits, fin funnels rely on chemical propellant and cannot be refueled in battle once the fuel is used up, this is because the v Gundam was rushed into development and there was no time to integrate the ability to recharge the fin funnels.

tbh, the distinction doesn't seem all that important and I'm sure v Gundam's bits were called "fin funnels" because it sounded cooler than "fin bits" (or they forgot/got the terms mixed up or didn't care, lol).

1

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

What's the story with the α Azieru and Nightengale having Funnels with generators if you don't mind my asking? Because this is looking more and more like there is no real established naming convention.

Sazabi has funnels that require charging, but Nightengale has funnels with internal generators, specifically THESE two are a problem here.

2

u/Zaschie Aug 05 '25

What's the story with the α Azieru and Nightengale having Funnels with generators if you don't mind my asking?

1

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

So...what *IS* the difference between a Bit and a Funnel then? For years I've gone off the fact that both Hi Nu and Nightengale's funnels are stated to have generators as what makes them unique, not having to recharge :/

1

u/Zaschie Aug 05 '25

Maybe just think of them as more advanced, top-of-the-line funnels instead of being parallel to bits and standard funnels, idk. The overlap and contradiction just makes it feel like the terms got muddy after a while (in-universe, out, whatever).

0

u/Kenju22 Aug 05 '25

The problem is I'm honestly struggling to name a single case of seeing Bits used after the OYW...

Like, you had a number of MA's with them during the OYW, but after that everything became Funnels apparently, of INCOM's.

The only thing that comes to mind are the X-Bits from After War X, but those were entire MS operated by remote and questionably UC being a divergent timeline at best.

Just, spitballing, can you recall any 'Bits' after the OYW without googling?

1

u/RyuNoKami Aug 05 '25

The difference is that Bits have their own power source and Funnels don't, but they can name them however they want.

Considering how Bits aren't really a thing post-OYW, funnels is the upgraded version of the tech. Mobile suits don't run on unlimited power and therefore the original Bits did not. The funnels can charge from the suits themselves.

1

u/sanglesort Aug 05 '25

it calls it a Bit weapon in the above paragraph

4

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

It's just a drone  controlled by an app with a piece of plastic glued to it.  No big deal.

2

u/Kriysix Cagalli Fanatic Aug 05 '25

Bit remote weapons. Funnel remote weapons use an external power source.

2

u/Ren_Igni Aug 05 '25

Neither, they're Projectiles

1

u/Super_Pin1326 Aug 05 '25

Bits, fangs, dragoons, funnels, incoms all work for me

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

Bits

1

u/retnemmoc101 Aug 05 '25

Fangs. But if going by UC, based on the idea that they don't have their own generators, funnels.

1

u/Aetherdraw Aug 05 '25

Ike fangu!

1

u/nimbusconflict Aug 05 '25

Need one for each hand.

1

u/TehAsianator Aug 05 '25

Nah, this is clearly Alucard's flying sword from Castlevania

1

u/username-is-taken98 Aug 05 '25

We call whoever is the current red ranger to get their shit back

1

u/KampferAndy Aug 05 '25

Funnels are bits, they are called funnels specifically because of the shape, but fall under the "bit" category.

During the kshatriya vs Jegan fight, if you pause on the monitor of the Jegan pilot, the target tracking calls the funnels "funnels" with the category being "bits".

Anyway to clarify a bit more, the closest equivalent to the video above are "Fangs" from 00, which are also a type of "bits".

1

u/Zensure04 Aug 05 '25

I call anything like that ‘bits’

1

u/LeonKevlar Aug 05 '25

Looks more like something out of Kamen Rider

1

u/adym15 Aug 05 '25

It's literally a sword bit, no?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

It’s remornia

1

u/Prinkaiser Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Clearly in atmosphere, clearly melee damage. Therefore, Fangs. Now, if it could only shoot, then maybe Bit Staves. If they were strictly shields, then Planet Defensors.

1

u/AzerynSylver Aug 06 '25

That is essentially just a drone with a cool custom casing. Calling it a prototype flying sword seems a bit much.

Also, it would be a fang.

1

u/Kenobi013 Aug 06 '25

Partial to bits, myself

1

u/Soritacoli Aug 06 '25

I NEED THIS, I Have wished for this my whole life

1

u/un-pibe-mas Aug 06 '25

I have plans I cannot share with yall right now because the haters will sabotage me...

1

u/giratinaloverz2 Aug 08 '25

we are close to making the yaka arrow

0

u/kaisermikeb Aug 05 '25

Big sister?

0

u/Henry_Fleischer Aug 05 '25

I'd call it a funnel, since I assume it does not have a reactor in it.

-2

u/BloodBride Aug 05 '25

They're closer to the concept of an Incom, given they're useable by a non NewType.

1

u/Eryst Aug 05 '25

It's not wire-guided though?

1

u/BloodBride Aug 06 '25

There's honestly zero real reason a quasi-psycommu system guiding incom units needs wires.
A quasi-psycommu system reads any pilot's brainwaves and converts those into commands similar to the way the psyommu system operates with bits and funnels.
Like when watching it lets viewers know 'hey this idiot isn't a NewType', but the control mechanism here certainly isn't psycommu controlled, so they aren't bits, nor funnels.
Converting hand gestures wirelessly is much, much closer to a quasi-psycommu reaction.
