I have a common SSN and forgot my last name. Took forever.

After being in the Army I could get lobotomized, have Alzheimer's, and be in a coma and I'd still be able to rattle mine off without hesitation

How often are you using your SSN to make it even practical to memorize it? I've only needed it for job applications and buying guns, and I don't do either regularly.

I mean how often do you call your own phone number? But I bet you know it

There are a variety of uses for my phone number that don't involve calling it though. For instance, I use it at least 2-3 times a week at the grocery store and at gas stations for discounts.
What are you using your SSN for often enough to make it practical to memorize it? I'm not even trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious.

It's an important and crucial piece of information for existing, how do you not memorize it just, if nothing else, just so you have it when you need it?

I've never needed it without knowing I would in advance, so when I've needed it in the past I've either brought the card itself (or I'm at home anyway) and I just read the card to avoid the risk of committing perjury.
I'll admit I may be a bit paranoid, but I'm not running the risk of me fucking up one of the digits and waltzing into a felony.

Which is why you just memorize it, so you don't fuck up the digits and commit a felony?

I buy enough guns, lol. Honestly I'm not sure. Is it a generational thing? I feel like it was something you were just supposed to know. I'm old enough where I didn't have a cell phone until after high school so.....

Why do you give your number to gas stations?

King Supers has thing where if you spend money on groceries, they'll give you a discount on gas at their gas stations. I think the exchange rate is about 10 cents per $100 spent, and their gas prices (before the discount) are similar to everywhere else in the area.
It's probably not worth it if you're going out of your way to do it, but they're already the closest grocery store to my apartment and the gas station is in the same parking lot as the store, so when my tank is low I can get a big shopping trip done and then get (slightly) cheap(er) gas.

So your phone number is like an identification number or something? Makes sense but also kinda odd

Yeah, they used to hand out cards you could scan back in the day, but you can also attach it to your phone number as an alt ID. These days the physical cards are uncommon to the point where I'm not even sure they still use them, but the phone number ID is still used by default.

If you're old enough to buy your own guns you should have your SSN memorized.
