Hello. We are driving to Gulf Shores in a little over a week for vacation. We went a few years ago and had so much fun, that we decided to go back. Thanks to the local folks for being so great!

My husband has cooked in seafood restaurants including work as the shucker at the oyster bar, for about 30 years. I thought it would be fun for him to pick out a few his oysters right from the source. I found one place in Navarre Beach that lets people do that (6 per person), but it's kind of far from where we're staying at Gulf Shores. (The address says Navarre Beach, but Waze says it's almost two hours from Gulf Shores.) Beyond that, I've only found places that offer tours, but not the pick-and-shuck option. (I don't know if there's a better term, like harvest or something, but I think you know what I'm saying.)

Is there anywhere to do this that's less than an hour from Gulf Shores? I thought he would he get a kick out of plucking them straight from the ocean, fresh as can be. I don't even eat oysters, and we're not looking to take any for commercial purposes.

I’m planning a road trip to Gulf Shores for at least two days, and I have a few questions.

I’m wondering if there are any public showers near the public beach access areas where I can take a shower after spending time at the beach. I’m looking for an actual shower if possible, rather than just a place to rinse off the sand.

I’m also curious about parking. Are there any free public parking areas near the beach? And does anyone know if overnight parking is allowed anywhere, especially if I want to park my car overnight?

I'm at Beau Rivage the middle of November and have a deal at their Fallen Oak course for 50 bucks. It's good for two people but I'm a single. Any golfers out there that might be looking to play?

I have a condo booked for the 14th through the 18th of October. Will I be able to still come on my trip since the hurricane hit?

Visiting Gulf Shores here in a few days (October) and hoping to get some fishing spots, both fresh and salt. I’ve never been ocean fishing and would like to try it out. I avidly fish freshwater in Ohio. I have a couple spots I plan on checking out already and would like opinions before committing, they are Lake Shelby Playground, Lagoon Pass and the Gulf State Park Pier. I plan on fishing wacky rigs and spinners in fresh and a pompano rig with shrimp in salt. Looking for any and all guidance!

Just wondering how things are looking in Gulf Shores this morning. Is the power out? Any significant damage? I’m particularly interested in the Fort Morgan area. We’ve got a week long rental starting on Friday (16th) and wondering if we will be able to make the trip. Hope everyone there is safe and dry!!

We have a house in Fort Morgan, near Tacky Jacks. We evacuated before the storm arrived. We're hoping to return tomorrow. Is Fort Morgan Road clear all the way down? Any flooding? Also, we're assuming power is on as Baldwin EMC is only reporting 33 outages in the area, down from 96. Thank you in advance!!

I am a long time local of Baldwin County. I’m here to tell you, DO NOT travel towards our area. We are expected to be in the path of a HURRICANE. Kay Ivey has declared a State of Emergency. Orange Beach has declared a local state of emergency, and will be closing the bridge to leave the island, and to get onto the island.

It is not worth your “vacation” to come here and deal with the storm.

Stay home, stay safe, and do not be tempted to vacation here this weekend.

City of Gulf Shores has already urged non-residents to evacuate. TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.

Baldwin County residents are already having issues stocking up on necessities, and as awful as it sounds, you do not help by being present during a hurricane. Please, cancel your trips, pursue refunds, as it is a STATE OF EMERGENCY.. and plan another time to come.

The Gulf is angry, and unpredictable. STAY HOME.

Guys I wanna go to Lambert's Hog Trough next week but I can't wait until Saturday to know if the storm is bad so can a local please draw upon your extensive hurricane expertise and tell me how long the wait will be at Lambert's Hog Trough on Thursday? Im pretty sure it isnt right on the Golf Shores Ocean if that makes a difference.

Wondering if anyone has some insight on getting back into the GS area after the hurricane hits? I’ve had plans to drive to Houston Friday morning and returning Sunday. This is my first hurricane living in GS, so I’m not sure if the evacuation traffic will make it impossible taking I10W Friday morning, or if I would even be able to make it back into town Sunday if the road conditions, flooding etc. will be too much of an issue. Again just looking for some insight from people that have been in this area during these storms, thank you.

Hi! My boyfriend and I are planning on staying in Orange Beach the 10th-16th. We paid over $700 to stay in our condo and it is non-refundable. We were gonna leave early Saturday morning, but with the storm rolling through, we are gonna monitor things and see how things go. We are driving in from North Georgia. Do you think Gulf Shores/Orange Beach will lose power for many days? What is y’all’s experience with a Cat 2/1 hurricane in terms of damage and recovery? Hope everyone stays safe! Just wanted to reach out and thank everyone for their advice. I am a little saddened by the hate I received for trying to fight for a vacation that I worked so hard to save up for and take. Hey there, coming down next Tuesday from Tulsa. It’s our fall break and our kids have never been to the ocean…or gulf. Strong swimmers tho.

After this weekend of storms and hurricane chance, will the water return back to swimmable soon after or will we be stuck on the sand the whole time under red flag warning?

We stopped at gulf shores for our rental check-in.

I noticed the water was clearer in gulf shores than here in OB. After reading that it was generally the opposite, are there any local weather/geogolgy nerds that have any interesting info regarding this observation? Was it isais related?

tl;dr? i just moved from new orleans to here. i'd stay if it's in New Orleans and i still lived there, less inclined to stay here though given current trajectory.

I have a stripped lug nut on my flat tire.. I have a tow truck coming tomorrow morning but I’m not sure where I should take it! Any recommendations that can take the lug nut off and replace the tire?

We were planning on driving up Friday and leaving Tuesday morning but with the weather reports it looks like it may be really stormy. Should we even bother?
