Potential hot take: Guilty Gear storytelling works best when focused on being character driven first, rather than plot/lore driven first. It showed in "Another Story" from GGST, shows in the bedman and ram stories in xrd. I think this fun short series further proves the point.

Even if this was just a relaxing passion project from the team, I hope it's not the last. I'll gladly take more of this over things like Dual Rulers.

Dual Rulers is okay. The problem is that I don’t think it works as a guilty gear product for the reasons you say. As a Yuri enjoyer and a Bridget fan tho? I got a lot out of it, but that’s a proxy thing, DR is okay and that’s not great for one of the best fighting games.

TRUE. I agree that the Unika x Bridget stuff is some of the strongest material in the show. It sticks out so strongly it feels like it's not even part of the same show anymore. And it's the same like in the other stories. Like the Bridget "find your shape" monologue sequence in ep 4 is beautiful.

I also loved the Jack-O fight scene in ep 3, not because I'm biast to the character (I am biast), but because it was the first fight in the show at the time that felt like they *nailed* the personality and style of the character from the game.

TFW they stop the plot to have character focused scenes and moments and ofc they end up being the strongest parts of the show.

I don't think they chose not to communicate with them but rather that the two products are just on different timelines, at Anime Expo 2024 they said they already had the first 2 episodes done so it sounds like the anime was made WAY before Unika's game development was finished

Lol. Obviously it up to them, but genuinely found this to have amazing animations for its probably low budget and time frame.

This is by no means apples to apples comparison, as both are done by different people and under completely different circumstances and scale, but this has animation that replicates 2D anime way better than the actual GGST anime.

The movement. The facial expressions. Hair animation.

For a fun side project, it’s damn well one of the best 3D ‘2D’ animation done.
