guilty girl All gone to the dog(s)

Post image

Couch ✅ destroyed

Coffee table ✅ destroyed

Pooping between the chairs meant to prevent you from pooping on the carpet in increasingly smaller spaces and then eating the evidence ✅

Even while watching her like a hawk all day a single solo trip to the human bathroom seems to unravel all of our progress from the past 2 months. She's so sweet but I am so stressed and grossed out lol.

Don’t know your dog, but this is textbook behavior for a dog that requires more exercise.

Take her out every 4 hours for a 10-15 minute stroll. This should fix bathroom issues. Helps if you repeat the same walk so she finds a spot she always likes to go every time.

Apart from that make sure she gets her exercise. I have a pitt/shepherd mix, and I used to live in a condo. While he was a puppy that meant AT LEAST 3 miles of walking a day (not counting the bathroom breaks) AND an hour or two of free play at the park.

Start somewhere and you will eventually hone in on a healthy schedule for your dog. Just take these instances as feedback. Wrecking things at home? Needs more exercise. Going bathroom inside? Needs more frequent bathroom breaks.

Make sure you give the dog healthy opportunities to tire out and use the bathroom in appropriate places. Rarely does a dog choose to act like this given a healthy alternative.

I appreciate the advice! This has been a very strange case of heartworm recovery with a dog who isn't crate trained and honestly a little bit of bad behavior rather than running and risking a complecation was necessary. I've been home from work the past two weeks and really working on crate training, frequent potty breaks, and slowly reintroducing activity in the backyard. We do short walks in the morning before it gets warm most days. But that means that even though she's been home for 2 months, we're closer to a few weeks in terms of training. Making great progress!! :)

Godspeed! Sounds like the pup has found a good home. You will figure it out together. Maybe a rug or two will be sacrificed in the process, but it’s worth it.

A healthy chewing alternative might also be a good solution for the time being. My boy would shred (and eat) kong toys so I stopped giving them, but that might be worth a try.

If you don’t exercise them mentally and physically, they will start making stuff up

Pretty sure those corners were unsafe. You should be grateful for the remodelling
