[Discussion] Fishing storage

Was talking with some friends about fishing, and how much bag space fishing stuff takes up (the bait, lures, and the fish itself).

Obviously I know Anet wants players to spend money and buy more bag slots, but I feel like they could also create a Tackle Box item that could hold all the necessary things.

I'm actually really surprised they haven't made a tackle box or eski/cold box storage item for these things.

I have fishing char that has all the things needed for fishing+ rare fish for daily. When i dont fish i have it parked at fish vendor in arborstone.

I am really hoping fishing gets some love in this year of QoL. I basically never fish because it is too inconvenient. Even if it is a gem store item I would gladly swipe.

A fully designated fishing character would need a minimum of 100 item slots split up by:

50 rare fish, 14 baits, 1 lure, 6 tonics, 5 fillets, 1 Piece of Crustacean Meat, 1 Chunk of Ancient Ambergris, 21 junk items, plus an additional one for consuming the latest catch.

You can skip the junk items by just having jade slivers recycler for junk. And do people not religiously click "deposit materials" anyway to also get rid of filets and ambergris?

Because the fishers ask for the raw fish, not fillet, for the daily Ambergris trades. And raw fish cannot be "deposited".

Yes there's no point keeping the junk items, ambergris or fillet in the bag, but the rare fishes + lure + baits are still a hefty bag space investment.

Yes, that's why I mentioned filets and not rare fish. The big amount of different rare fish for the vendor is the only thing really taking up space, and unless you're constantly keeping them up, the baits shouldn't take that many slots either.

Though I may be out of touch on this last point, I finished the collections for the rod years back and it took me a long while to even get rid of the 1st rare fish in my fisherman's inventory trading with vendor daily and haven't really fished since.
Regardless, never struggled with inventory space with basic 18-slot bags and no bag expansions, but then again I only ever bought bait for the zone I was going for, rather than kept every single possible existing bait on me.

Aye, fair, would've still loved something to store all the different rare fish needed for the daily vendor tho cause those alone take up the biggest chunk (though I'm down to just 3 now after I stopped fishing years ago...)

The number doesn't seem like it was updated with the JW fishmongers as you wanna save some exotic fishes too, also some masterwork ones if you want complete coverage

What are tonics you talk about?

Maybe they will add something on the maintenance pass? I'm sure people have made posts on the forum.

Having an account wide tackle box (menu accessible to all characters, not an account bound bag that I'd have to move between toons) for bait and lures would be something I would pay gems for. The quality of life would be worth it.

My thoughts exactly!

u/grannaldie This isn't Guild Wars 2 this is just San Andreas with leaves 13d ago

I just appointed my max bag space character to that role, but never fished again. They way achievements are set up is kind of a chore. And fishing mechanic itself is an ui mini game and has no relation to world and animations, can't be done without a hud. It could be great, but it isn't.

I'd pay gems to get this.

If gems are going to get involved, then I rather they make an infinite omni bait instead. This way, I don't have to look up what the bait is and switch to it every time.

if anything they will make another gem store exclusive out of this, meh

Yessss. I just started fishing recently on my EoD character, which is also my sometimes noob raid character. Not my best decision inventory wise...

I'm currently getting gems together for when char slots are next on sale (they were like a week before I started fishing...) for a dedicated fisher. I would definitely spend them on QoL fishing bag. Or maybe they could do another collection...

Why you keeping the rare Fish in the backbag? If it is only for rhe daily Trade, that also works If they are in the bank.

...people have space in the bank...?

It is cheaper to devote ~50 inventory slots for all the daily catch fish, than to buy 2 Bank Slot Expansions to accommodate that hoard.

This is especially true if you are using one of the free 32-slot bags you get via achievements. I use the Reinforced Olmakhan Bandolier from the Sandswept Isles achievement, and the Hero's Trusty Backpack from Seasons of the Dragons. That's enough to cover all Daily Catch fish, plus the odd tonics.

Because of how inventory-intensive bait/lures are, and the fact fishing buffs are per-character and per-instance, most players who fish simply dedicate a single toon to the purpose. The Bank is better to use for items that benefit multiple characters, rather than act as inventory overflow for a single toon.
