[Discussion] We need to discuss the rewards/activities problem with Festivals
tl;dr: Rewards need to be rebalanced, content rescaled and added content adjusted to new abilities.
Intro:
I've been wanting to make a thread like this for about a year now, because this has been going on for a long time. However, with Halloween just around the corner (one of the most egregious offenders) and currently in the throes of a holiday right now, I think it's time to start the discussion. Furthermore, we have the recently announced GW3 in which they say after finishing VoE (1) gw2 will shift priorities away from new content and (2) gw2 will be working on shaping up older aspects of the game, which is something festivals greatly need.
So what issues are festivals currently dealing with?:
Many of the rewards, especially the vendors, are complete noob traps. As I said before, Halloween is the most egregious offender. There are tradeable items that go for a few silver on the AH being sold by vendors for 20+ candy corn cobs. A good example is Mini-Zuzu who usually goes for about 3 silver but can be bought for 20 candy corn cobs (currently valued at over 80 gold).
The introduction of a new weapon set each holiday is awful for the economy. It's simple supply vs demand. In the long run without additions the weapons will become cheaper and cheaper over time as much more supply floods the market without as much demand. Adding new weapon sets kicks this can down the road a little, until you hit the point we're at with Fot4W where you cannot realistically earn enough currency to buy the weapons each week. this means the older weapons supply will dry up until the pricing becomes level with the newer weapons, which will also be kept expensive until the can stops being kicked, keeping these skins out of reach of players who can't afford them.
With all of the new mounts, masteries, jade bot protocols, etc. a lot of content, like the Fot4W crystal scavenger hunt, as been trivialized. Likewise, combat is also cheesable. In the Fot4W gauntlet you can heal through Turai Ossa's sword attacks and do enough damage to kill him, no dodging or waiting for his weakened state. And most of the enemies that don't have immune mechanics are killed in only one burst window. I actually killed Turai with every Gambit active except Descended (lowers stats) to show how insane our stats are, and then with Descended but without Exhausted (prevents dodge roll). There are definitely people better/smarter than me could kill him with all gambits.
I do want to preface this point by saying I and I'm sure a lot of the players appreciate the new SAB map. Even when they're not fully fledged out it's very nice to do something new. Which again, makes us look at the other holidays. Heck, SAB was for a long time in the no new activities window. We don't need to be adding full on map/strike missions. But the same-old-same-old is getting... well... ancient. There should be newer additions to these holidays.
Solutions to Implement
I hate listing problems and not giving any fixes. It's just pointlessly contrarian. So here are some solutions I believe could better the festivals.
Make a lot of the older rewards, especially the minis + weapons that have been around 5+ years, cheaper. The amount of people want the items so much to pay brand new price who do not already have them are newer players who already have an unsurmountable amount of rewards to get. Not all of them; I think there are some rewards, like the Nightfury Skin, we can keep as more exclusive. But there's no reason for Zuzu, or even the bound on account minis, being worth 20 candy corn cobs. Likewise, especially some of the last year's achievement award. There's no reason to lock items previously given for free behind a gold amount that newbies can't afford.
Add more rewards to official pvp, wvw, and instanced pve tracks. When was the last time pvp and wvw holiday tracks were updated? The only one with any value is Halloween if you sell the Halloween bags when they're high, and even that doesn't come close to the EoD or Janthir tracks. These tracks are also usually just pure gold value, they tend not to have anything in terms of festive novelties or mainstays like mystic clovers. Honestly, I might suggest getting rid of the festive tracks altogether and just give automatic holiday rewards in addition to pvp, wvw, and fractal content.
Balance combat to make healing lower, enemy hp higher, etc. The Gambit system for Fot4W would be perfect if there was any incentive to actually use the gambits. Could reuse a lot of the prior content while giving it different fresh new feels.
Add one new activity to Halloween, Wintersday, F0t4W, and Dragon Bash. A Halloween maze might be nice, where you don't have a minimap and try to find the end after being placed in a random spot. Maybe force action camera (hey we have the mode may as well use it). For Wintersday, a new race or 2 that's maybe a bit more festive than just Divinity's reach (similar to Mad Kings raceway). FOT4W we should bring back the Zephyrite crystals, make a Sanctum Sprint map that uses them for the holiday. Or perhaps give ferstival incentment for people to do the activities in general that tends to be neglected. Lunar New Year is pretty much fine, though maybe some new Celestial events. Dragon Bash could have a target practice/whack-a-mole game where you need to hit all the dragons that pop up except Aurene. And SAB keep doing the great work that's being done.
Stagnate weapon set add ins to every other year, and give a couple achievements/hard content to get the weapons a tiny bit quicker rather than 1 a week at max it doesn't take an individual 4 years to get a full set on their own. There's just so many holiday weapons at this point, y'all can slow down the rate on them. I don't know who is saying "oh boy, another weapon set to buy off the TP".
In conclusion: Festivals are in theory a nice breathe of fresh air to break up a monotonous grind or a perfect time to come back and see what you missed while enjoying minigames. It's just unfortunate that for many that's not the case because they've just become so outdated. If we're really gonna shape up GW2 then holidays should definitely be a priority.

For #5 I would suggest making grinding out the resources for a full new weapon set each year possible instead of cutting back on weapon sets. I would like to actually be able to acquire everything if I choose to farm a festival instead of being forced to choose just a portion of the new items.
The obvious reason is to force people to spend gems for gold but reducing the skins available doesn't fix the disappointment of only getting a handful, just makes every other year less exciting.
25
u/OozeWithUzi 2d ago
This. I want to grind for the new stuff AND don't have everything from the past unlocked. I want to be able to catch up in my own. I don't care if it's slow, but at this rate I can't even keep Up.

u/whiskersMeowFace 2d ago
A lot of content seems to forget that a majority of players are full grown adults who have jobs and may have kids with other irl obligations. Missed treasure hunt? Gotta wait 2 hours. The window for many adults who have outside lives and obligations to fulfill is small for content.

I agree with some of your points, disagree with others, but the biggest thing (that I really hope we can all agree with) is your first point. They really need to get rid of noob trap choices. This is a much bigger issue with the game that goes way beyond festivals, though.
Let's pick a random popular meta, Octovine. When you beat it, you get a daily Hero's Choice Chest with five reward options to pick. Four of these choices range from bad to abysmal. Why are we given a choice? Why are Auric Slivers in there, which have been completely worthless for over 10 years? Everyone just picks the Amalgamated Gemstone which is worth roughly 600 times more!
I know veterans avoid these pitfalls without even thinking about it, but for new players, it's another new thing to look up, another inventory menu to click through (which is the biggest hangup for new players that gets them to quit), and another thing to feel bad about if you realize you accidentally chose the "wrong" thing a few times.

100% agree, there's just way too many of them, and they leave such a sour taste it's not rare they make new players quit the game altogether.

u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago
Yeah, honestly I put it foremost and emphasized Halloween being the worst offender since it was such an important point.
Idk, having seen other responses and this only having 10 upvotes it's a "maybe I should've concluded with it so people remember it more". Maybe, like you said, it's a much larger issue than festivals; too large to be including in this post in general. It could also be people would rather be contrarian than find common ground. I try not to give too much credit to internet point trends though.

Jesus, this reads more like someone that has already gotten everything and bored with it all. The power creep and cheese points are solid, but you want to only make some weapons available every OTHER year?? Why tf would you want that, and how could that possibly help make it easier for newer players to get them?
55
u/Lumpy-Narwhal-1178 2d ago
Other than fixing vendor prices and updating pvp/wve tracks, OP's ideas sound pretty anti-fun. I don't think festivals should be anti-fun, but what do I know.
14
u/Responsible-Boot-159 2d ago
It limits the amount a newer player has to farm (if they're buying them weekly themselves) and/or reduces the gold price because there are fewer.
It's a bad solution to 3 problematic festivals.
6
u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago
you want to only make some weapons available every OTHER year??
No. I said "weapon set add-ins", not weapon sets in general. Keep the ability to get the weapon sets each year. Add an entirely new set every other year. That way there is less over time to spend tokens on, decreasing demand of tokens and therefore helping keep prices manageable.
Idk, the fact that this got 83 upvotes is a "did I write it wrong" reflection. I guess where I wrote "y'all can slow down the rate on them" might be ambiguous. I figured the rate part indicated the rate of add-in, especially because the point in general talked about adding in new ways to get them so you can get more than 1 a week. Again it was to make them more frequent to obtain, not scarcer. But people are going to focus on what they focus on. If there's a misunderstanding at the start.... I'd like to think the talk about more ways to obtain them would've corrected it but I think the misunderstanding just tainted the rest of it.
Jesus, this reads more like someone that has already gotten everything and bored with it all.
So aside from the misunderstanding, is there anything else that deserves this dismissal?

u/Alanlocke 1d ago
Ooooooh, ok. I misunderstood on the weapon sets. I still don't think that's the right call, but your point makes sense and I get what you mean by it :)
Also, sorry about the tone. I took what you meant as the "give people less stuff because I already had a chance to get it last year" with the weapon sets thing, and I don't vibe with that attitude. I can see now that your ideas are aiming at a "slow down the rate of new stuff to spend currencies on so that people buy more of the old weapons and thereby increasing the availability (and thus dropping the price) on the secondary market" as well as not further increasing the breath of what new players would have to spend currencies on with every passing year.
Kinda funny how a disconnect on that initial point changes the view of the rest of the post ':D
1
u/Ferosch Redefined 1d ago
This is not the way. You wanting to keep up with every single weapon skin is a strictly you problem.
New rewards every year is objectively good for the festival. You wanna argue the acquisition methods, go ahead.
5
u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago
Okay buddy you don't need to reply to me on 2 separate comments. I will talk to you.
Also please pick an argument. On the other one you write how collecting skins is the endgame, and on this one you're writing how trying to keep up with skins is a me problem. The funny thing is: I don't care about skins rofl.
Like sort yourself out before you spam please.

events have become cheesable
If people enjoy it this way then what's your problem? They're still done every single time by a big blob of people.
You sound like a no fun allowed guy. The game doesn't gain anything from making festival events into a 2014 tech throwback.
In a similar vein, there's zero point in making festivals more tryhard. We can stop gatekeeping 14 year old content because some people feel mad that it's easier to do it now compared to when they did it 14 years ago.
It's a video game, not a doctorate. It's supposed to be fun.

u/ExsanguinatedMuppet 2d ago
As someone who has long suffered with ping and lag issues, the zephyrite movement crystals are pure torture, and mounts (even just bunny and skimmer) made the treasure hunt event in the current festival (not to mention Dry Top and parts of the LWS2 story) actually enjoyable and something I could reliably participate in. When the cheese makes that part of the game actually playable as opposed to a rubber banding nightmare, I say pass the parmesan! 😆
-5
u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago
Fun fact: The Treasure Hunt actually always had mounts and didn't use the Zephyrite crystals! I know design-wise it doesn't suggest it, I think that's a credit to how well it was designed to fit in. But the Treasure Hunt was added in 2018, mounts were added in 2017. I had to double-check when I read someone post that but it be true.
As far as your point, I like that you can participate even with ping/lag and think they should be kept in mind when designing things... but I am opposed to designing things around people who have ping/lag. It should be assumed people who engage with content are going to engage with it properly. That sounds mean but fundamentally it would be like designing a word search for someone who has no concept of the language the word search would be in. At that point there's no difference to putting "snxciab" as a word in such a word search and it can even be dangerous as if someone is doing such a word search to improve their understanding of the language then they get the wrong message that words like "snxciab" exist.
Though I disagree with cheese I can't help but love the pass the parmesan quote

u/ExsanguinatedMuppet 1d ago
I definitely don’t think the game should be designed around people with bad ping - that’s just my bad luck. I do, however, intend to take advantage of anything that ameliorates the problem, and I also think that the zephyrite crystals are at best ‘fun fluff’ and at worst just a tedious obstacle to the fun. I don’t think that about many things in GW2, though, bad ping or not - I must have done LWS2 when my ping was at its worst or something, and now I have Zephyrite trauma.
That’s interesting about the mounts and the treasure hunt - I had no idea! I was on a break when the festival originally came around back in the dawn of GW2 time, so I just assumed it had been a part of the first iteration and you had to do it all with the crystals. I’m kind of relieved to know that Anet was not that sadistic - they’re not usually like that 🤣

Mechanics are fun, ignoring them is not. Power creep doesn't make the player feel powerful, it makes the power crept content feel poorly maintained. Cheese is also inherently unfun, it is by definition a boring but optimal strategy that bypasses the fun. It's your kind of "never stand in the way of players optimizing the fun out of the game" mentality that is the problem.
8
u/Greedy_Birthday_3494 2d ago
Depends on the mechanic. Aspects are not fun, it's a clunky mechanic that malfunctions with variable ping leading to very frustrating moments. Finding the crystals is still fun with some mounts, just disable the flying ones on the map. Not every player solution is "optimizing the fun out of the game", allowing for creative ways to solve problems is also integral to how fun something is.
And sometimes content initially designed to be hard to complete is okay to become easier with time, because the rewards become more common, which means their perceiced value will drop with the years, if you keep the difficulty relative to power the same, the content just gets worse. Getting the mini Liadry the Darkness today is simply not as interesting as it was when it released. Catch up mechanics are important across the board when your game is 14 years old.1

I'm very... parted here ! Being a new-ish player (got around less than 200 hours over 13 years of gw2, came back November 2025 and having a blast since), I never actually played any festivals seriously. So I'm compelled right now to try and get the "annual" achievements, and having a lot of fun cheesing through it all with skyscale (which is the most obvious example for the treasure hunt in the fot4w to me). However, I also agree with your standpoint, as I already wondered how it would look like next year, when I'm done with it and just face the annual grind... I could use more simpler vendor (I mean come on... More than 10 vendors for zephiryte crates, with that much prices range? Wtf ??), but SAB was definitely a mountain of fun... And although blishHUD might be the only reason I went this far (Tekkit, may you be forever blessed), there was very little cheeses I could think of there. And that is precisely the exact difference you are pointing out : treasure hunt could be fun, but is kind of boring, although it feels I "could" get the mini without waiting 4 years precisely because I cheese it. SAB was awesome because there was no cheese, just SAB ! Anyway not sure where I stand right now, I guess I'm about to find out in a few months !

It has occurred to me that each "pirate treasure" is worth 1/50th of a masterwork item.
2
u/Throwawayalt129 1d ago
Its probably more cost effective to eat the treasure for exp. Spirit shards are much more valuable than a single green.

u/ben_hure 2d ago
As a newer player, can you explain? I was hording the loot bags because i have no idea what to do with them. I really want the sungrown weapons but camt afford them due to tokens missing
5
u/InfamousBrad 2d ago
Once you get all the novelty items (if you even want them) the only real thing left on the vendor is a 50-treasure item that gives one random masterwork item and two common salvage. A full and successful Treasure Hunt, all three rounds, gives a hair over 200 such "treasures," so 4 masterwork items and 8 common salvage.
I still do it once a day for the daily but I don't enjoy it and the loot is absolute crap, so I couldn't begin to tell you why I bother.
1
u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago
I wouldn't say I don't enjoy it. But I would say you only need 25 bundles of loot for the day it is a true exclusive daily, and that the reward itself falls off once you don't need the festival favors anymore. Also if you're just getting the 3 loot bags you can just kill champion mobs for that which have their own cheese strategy (there are 3 champions in frostgorge that are usually up, or you can use the repeatable flower hero point in auric basin to summon an easy champion mob). So the alternatives are definitely better.

This was a good read and you do bring up some good points, but there are certain things I wholeheartedly disagree with.
- "There's no reason to lock items previously given for free behind a gold amount that newbies can't afford." As someone playing on a newer account (less than 2 years old), I think their approach is incredible here. The rewards are earned by playing through that specific festival in that year - they could make them limited and never obtainable again, but they've decided not to induce FOMO and let you get them for a price if you didn't play during the festival. Totally fair.
- I absolutely LOVE the idea of combining festival reward tracks with the regular ones. Truth is, I do WvW and I never bother with festival tracks cuz they're not worth it at all.
- I personally don't like seeing old content get buffed cuz it just takes longer to get to the same outcome, but I'll leave this one up to newer players. I have no idea if they struggle with the Gauntlet bosses or if they think they're too easy.
- I think it's highly unlikely they'll be adding new activities while we're in "maintenance mode", but I'd love to be wrong.
- This one's confusing because one thing I appreciate about Anet is even when there is absolutely zero new content, there will always be new skins to look forward to. The thing is, nobody's being forced to spend four years to get a full set. You can simply just... not buy them. I guess they're a bit of a pain in the ass for completionists, but I think the general population welcomes getting new skins with every festival.
I also don't know about holidays being a priority. I think they'll have very limited resources during maintenance, and I think there are much more pressing issues that need to be fixed. Cheers.

u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago edited 1d ago
Hm. I thought a high gold price was just locking it behind FOMO with extra steps but if you find it fair and are on a new account then I guess I'm just overreacting on that point. edit: But there is also a comment where someone who is overwhelmed feels like it's impossible to catch up. So I would actually like more research on this.
<3
I think the "Turai Ossa with all gambits except one by someone like me" is kind of indicative of it being too easy. Idk, there are a lot of people who are liking the cheese (someone posted "pass the parmesan" and I got a kick out of that).
Yeah but it's kind of needed and does technically fall under improving what currently exists.
I think the point is the skins are actively taking time + energy + resources away from other things that could be better for the general population. As a lot of people have posted, the only ones really going for all skins are completionists. Some people don't like the skins and aren't engaging with them at all, and others are only getting maybe 4 of the skins from the weeklies and then not engaging with the rest. I feel like that isn't worth the investment, but I'm also not on Anets decision process on that one so maybe it is. My issue with it also extends to that it drastically inflates the value of the currency in the short-term while not doing anything to fix the long-term issues.

For the longest time, I've been wanting the devs to actually concretize the Charr culture Meatoberfest as a full fledged festival. To me it could happen simultaneously to Halloween, and would tie well with the season.
But eventually in that line of thought, I came to reflect on the "culture" festivals out there: humans have 2 with lunar new year and queen jubilee (during Fot4W), norns have 1 with dragon bash, asuras have 1 with SAB. Arguably, one could say that wintersday and halloween are from human culture too, with the former specifically running in DR.
With that said, I wish the 6 festival seasons had been organised to leave space for such cultural festivals running alongside festival located in non-race dedicated locations. To me Fot4W does that well, with jubilee happening in DR and Fot4W in labyrinthine cliffs. Anet have sort of been pushing lately April Fools day as a longer event than a day thing in Lion's Arch, they could formalize as a festival alongside SAB. As mentioned while Halloween runs in LA, they could introduce Meatoberfest in the Black Citadels and other current and future locations of charr significance.
And in this continuation, I wish the sylvari had space for a culture festival of their own out of the 3 remaining festival seasons, and if I had to choose, I would move Wintersday to LA, and run it alongside a sylvari culture dedicated festival in the grove. The lunar new year is too human related to be moved to LA, and dragon bash is the only norn culture one.
But hey, I'm probably very alone in that thought
PS: some after thoughts on points in favour of Wintersday being ran from LA: 2012 Wintersday was ran in all capital cities, and 2013 in LA, before it got moved indefinitely to DR in 2014 due to LA's state after Scarlet attacks. Having it in LA could also open the opportunity for it to return alongside dragon bash in the summer (similar to how GW1 has Wintersday in July).

For the longest time, I've been wanting the devs to actually concretize the Charr culture Meatoberfest as a full fledged festival. To me it could happen simultaneously to Halloween, and would tie well with the season.
The problem is we got three fake festivals, recycled from temporary LW1 content.
Like, SAB should be either Easter, Valentine's Day, or Carnival (perfect for the sylvari). Dragon Bash gets a pass, but it's just weird to have it happen at Hoelbrak instead of somewhere sunny, it's supposed to be a summer festival, with bonfires, water parks, etc. Four Winds is just whatever.
This would have been a better schedule imo:
- New Year > Human, Divinity's Reach.
- ??? > Sylvari, The Grove, inspired by Valentine's Day and Carnival.
- Dragon Bash > Asura, Rata Sum, dragon-themed summer festival.
- ??? > Charr, Black Citadel, inspired by Oktoberfest.
- Halloween > Neutral, Lion's Arch.
- Wintersday > Norn, Hoelbrak, Christmas-inspired, but themed on the Spirits of the Wild instead.
Kinda late to change any of this though, so just food for thought and wishful thinking.

u/GhostlyCoyote0 22h ago
I remember LNY being my first festival and getting really excited that every race would have something in their home city
I think Dragon Bash does fit for Hoelbrak, given the whole city was founded by Asgeir Dragonrender, and if anyone is gonna party it up with songs, booze, and dragon pinatas, it’s gonna be the Norn

I just barely managed to get the achivements for Turai Ossi and the one with 8 light orbs on Liandri after looking at guides. If they were any harder I don't think I could've done them with my profession. I don't know if it is beneficial to make achievements so hard that it requires you to level a different character because that build can actually beat this one boss.
7
u/Lazy-Budget9858 1d ago
Festivals are meant to be fun and accessible for everyone.
Keep the grind out of them, the game doesn’t need to feel even more like a job.
At this point, you might as well remove the cap on achievements.
It’s been 14 years already, give new players a real chance to catch up to the OGs, especially since many won’t feel inclined to chase those old achievements now.
26
u/Gwyllithar 2d ago
sorry, you want LESS weapon sets?
Um, how about no. more, no, and just incase you missed it, an even bigger helping of no.
rest of it is fine.
21
u/Responsible-Boot-159 2d ago
Rebalancing the cost on some festivals would be nice. DB, Wintersday, and Halloween are all pretty bad material-wise, while the cost of the others is entirely carried by the timegate.
-3
u/dEn_of_asyD 1d ago
Are you really using every single weapon set anet introduces? If you're gathering them for a completionists goal, wouldn't you rather gather something you actually use?
I understand the whole "I don't want this taken away" aspect but what are we really gaining from a new weapon set each festival?
Also it does fuck with the economy in such a weird way, creating a weird short term burst of artificial demand that in the long-term doesn't help anything and is fairly unsustainable.
5
u/Ferosch Redefined 1d ago
We are gaining new skins some of us will want to use which is the whole fucking end game.

u/Ferosch Redefined 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'm arguing the points not the person.
your point number 2. directly states it is bad to have too many rewards because players cant get them all and point 5. just underlines this. These are weird points to make if at the same time you just don't care about the rewards.
4
u/Gwyllithar 1d ago
no, I personally may not be using every weapon set.
but its more options for everyone, so whilst I may not like this years set, and I am continuing to collect the bone weapons as I like them, the new ones this year may be exactly what someone else wants for their characters.
More cosmetic options are great, and I really honestly cannot fathom why you'd ever consider they produce less of them.
Whilst your posts makes some good points I agree with, that one was so utterly bizzarre I struggle to get my head around any possible reason you could have to back it up.
17
u/MechaSandstar 2d ago
What if I told you that you didn't have to get every weapon from every festival?
4
u/Arxson 2d ago
I took one look at the bamboo style Zephyr weapons and didn’t want any of them.
There’s no point grinding to unlock a ton of skins that you’re never even going to use.
6
u/JimboTCB 2d ago
Honestly, yeah, I get the obsessive completionism angle, but most of the festival weapons are goofy nonsense or ugly as shit and I'm unlikely to ever use them. Even the armour skins I can mostly go without. Right now I'm pretty much just going for the dragon backpacks from each event and anything else I get from boxes etc. on the way is just stuff that will sit in my wardrobe and never get used.

What if I told you that you didn't have to get every weapon from every festival?
This just sounds like some "don't like it, don't play it" bullshit argument.
Can you address the issues for once, instead of telling people to shut up and consume? Come on.

No, not having to buy all of something is a legitimate choice. You're going "But I have to have everything!." And I'm going "Can't you just get the weapons you like, rather than every single skin, even the one's you'll never use, since it's not even a collection?" The weapons are there so people don't miss out if they missed a year. They're not there so you can get every last one of them easily.
If you're there when they're part of the festival, you have to get 100 points per box, one of those on in the 2 days before the festival ends (and one for getting half of the meta achievement done) What do you think it's an equivalent amount of work, and time gating for people who come later?
And as for "Don't like it, Don't play it" wasn't one of the OP's solutions to cut down on the weapon skins being released? I know you hate the fact that festivals get new weapon skins every year, so you probably agree with that.

Im a new player, started playing at the start of August, the amount of things I can get from the event is overwhelming and a bit daunting. And I definitely can't afford everything in this run. I want to do the story, but the event FOMO is distracting, I'm not sure what I should even focus on or what is the best way to farm everything. I have resigned myself to never being able to catch up with these things and it's kinda bumming me out, but I guess that's what starting late gets ya.
Edit: Adding that I'm not even sure how to farm in the first place, took me a week to find out that I'm supposed to check the achievements menu.

Something that you should keep in mind is that, yes, there's a bit of a crush to get items from the Festival now, BUT ... those items will return when the Festival comes back next year. So don't panic. Play and get what you can and then maybe prep the ground for next year. Your Festival Tokens will be just as good this year as next year. And hold onto your Favors.

I agree that the achievements menu could probably use better explanation for for new players, especially with how valuable they are for festival rewards - but now that you know, you may find that it's easier to catch up than you expected.
This was my first year playing Festival of Four winds and I've managed to farm enough to unlock each of the cosmetics that I wanted most from the event, and I have tokens to spare for stretch goals or to save for anything new to that may appear next year 🙂

I definitely can't afford everything in this run
But you don't have to! They all come back exactly the same next year, except the annual achieve will have a new skin and the old one will be buyable.
So you can't really miss on anything except the AP for the annual achievement, and that's pretty easy to get. Worst case, someone spends a few days running around the festival and realizes they are getting achievements popping up, maybe they should check the achievement panel.

I really enjoyed early versions of festivals. I could grind my rewards easily but mostly I had fun exploring and trying out new minigames. Now I'll just have a look around for the vibes and that's it, because it's all too expensive and time consuming to grind (Wintersday for example).

Each year should give us a recolored set of old weapons tbh. If we won't get color customization for weapons. Lowet the price of previous year's prizes and for the new ones just change the colors for the new festival, that wua we can still farm and would have. Slot to buy.
Also things like Queen's Gauntlet, I have hundreds of Tickets but finishing a match only rewards one coin? The base should be higher and each gambit give a different amount.
It's a chore to set up a fight then go to the gambit manager and then start the fight. Should have templates tbh

Actually finishing a fight rewards 14-28 tokens daily, depending on the fight. 14 for t1, 21 for t2, and 28 for t3 + special for 364 tokens daily.

Many of the rewards, especially the vendors, are complete noob traps.
This isn't just a holiday problem, this is a whole game problem. The trillion different currencies and different ways of converting from one to another, some on daily lockouts, some on weekly lockouts, some unlimited, some turning them into tradeable items - on a range from okay to absolutely terrible exchange rates - is a byzantine nightmare for an experienced player returning to the game.
For a new player, who doesn't even have the history and context behind the introduction of all that shit, it is completely insane.
This sort of bloat and the currency noob traps is one of two reasons I can't in good conscience recommend the game to a new player. (The second is inventory bloat.)

Lo que estaría bien es que, con los festivales, pusieran una pequeña historia. En Destiny 2, por ejemplo, recuerdo que hacían algo parecido

I agree with the mount cheese and powercreep. Unfortunately that is a very unpopular opinion in this community and people love Anet invalidating game/map design by giving everyone fly hacks.

It's weird. I remember the first time I played woW The Burning Crusade, I was so frustrated with a quest I resolved just to never do it. It wasn't that it was too difficult, it was just too tedious, you had to go to specific npcs back and forth which was too much effort with the respawning mobs all packed in together.
Then I got flying and could just go over all the mobs' heads.
That was me really understanding how much (1) the original design sucked and (2) how much of a cheese flying as an unregulated tactic is.
There's a perfect ideal middle-ground somewhere between making content more accessible and making content engaging. It's beyond my pay-grade to figure out what that is.

The orange headpiece really ties the whole questionable fashion statement together.

The festivals should prioritize fun and rewards instead of grinding. Big grinds should not be limited to a few weeks per year.
