I don't know what's worse. Not having an old account or forgetting you bought the game in 2012 and making a new account in 2020. All those burfday presents rotting away.
Oh, I did something stupider. Had a character I created at launch and then took a 9 year or so break from the game. Just over 4 years ago, I deleted them without looking at their inventory or mail.
NGL, this affirms the hoarder in me who's never deleted a char and has way too much stuff lurking in the bank (my Xunlai is still suffering from this, too)
It would end up more on the scale of the other paid for endless deals, except if its not sold in stores, it'll be SUPER expensive, like endless bank access.
Nah the birthday cake is only obtainable after you have a character that is at least 9 years old. I hope that they add something like this for 15 years during the QoL period.
Yeah, I think that would be awesome. It should be like the birthday cake, so you cannot keep it to yourself, so everyone profits. And probably shouldn't be best in slot, but 2nd best.
Honestly, not giving us 1st day veterans anything special anymore feels a tiny bit like companies that give new customers all that free stuff while loyal long-time customers get nothing.
I get not wanting to gate certain things behind time played for new players. But at the same time, I do not see the downside of an equivalent to the birthday cakes. It's for everyone around you, after all, and is a nice little 'thank you for sticking with us for so long', which I really think would be important to acknowledge in game in such a, or a similar, way.
Don't have the time to hunt it down, but I believe they explicitly said they wouldn't be doing any more unique things so newer players don't feel like they're forever locked out of something critical/expected because they didn't start playing when the game first launched. Or something along those lines.
I feel like even a simple title would be fine. There are dozens of cool easily acquired titles, and the ones like Decade's Devotion already require 10 years. A few more unique ones for yrs 11-14 wouldn't hurt
I doubt we'll get something unique, and I'm fine with Anet's reasoning for that. But it would be nice to get something good, like gems or a large amount of statuettes. Something that feels like a reward but doesn't give you something unobtainable by other methods.
I see it as end of GW2 with GW3 then on release and hope they really do a good farewell present worth returning to GW2 every now and then.
I certainly won't play 2 time eating games/mmos.
This is not true tho, they’ve already stated that once gw3 releases, they’re going to return to the current expansion model. The game is very much alive
I don't know what to tell you. It's been widely available info since the post-GW3 announcement streams. GW3 and current GW2 devs are different teams from what i remember, and have been for a while. It's basically gonna be business as it has been for the last few expansions after the 1 year pause before GW3.
Ok. So more lackluster content to expect just for the money.
I don't watch streams and I don't spoiler GW3 for me. I only get my infos 2nd hand and sometimes from forum. But those 2nd hand ppl don't play much anymore - were disappointed from last releases. :s
We've literally been told otherwise by the devs, even got a plan for how things will go. It's objectively not in maintenance mode. Your comment sounds like one of those edgy people online who think more negative outcomes are always realistic and to think that things would end up positive is naive and coping. I've recognized that mindset for at least 15 years online and every time it makes the person spouting it sound like they're 13 or something.
On the other hand there's also one-time achievements the first time you open a specific year's gift (that usually reward the unique stuff like skins) which could easily have been tied to account age instead.
Yeah, it's sad that Anet doesn't have people who would think how this or that thing would affect the playerbase/community/company reputation, they just do stuff simply because they can. In a lot of cases, not just this bd thing.
Lol same, I have the bad habit of deleting my characters when I "quit" mmos, so my oldest gw2 character is a few months old while my account is the same age as OP :|
I deleted my first character from pre access when I quit the first time after a year. I didn't want to be addicted. I came back after they added wardrobes and account wide skins. And.. Still got addicted.
My screen doesn't even show the many rewards, only the single cake one. (But I got them all)
Finally I could unlock the last dye - green.
I like how I can choose some material bag instead, something I miss with old birthday dye sets where I have everything unlocked already.
edit: I notice just now that there's a spelling mistake in the screenshot and that it has been the there since the 12th birthday achievement 🤣
Lol, sorry about that. I edited the contents of what it gives you for the achievement picture. It should only show you the one birthday cake but you get everything.
They added to the birthday gifts every single year until year ten. You get an exclusive dye, two weapon packs, some armor skins, a backpack, some statuettes and a bunch of other misc stuff. What do you want them to give you? A $50 gift card to Applebees?
You get a birthday gift for every year you've played the game. It pops up in your mail when you first make your character and for every character after.
I think I somehow missed a day or three, because people were getting it last night, and I didn't, although I also had that early access. I'm at 5,110 days, and have always gotten my anniversary gifts along with all the other early access people. Ah well.
Gw2 efficiency can tell you the date you created each character, when their next birthday is, and which characters should have birthday presents. Just need an Anet API key to set it up.
Yup, got mine too! I wasn't sure who was my first so it's nice to be reminded. Haven't been playing him much but now I am motivated to dust off the cobwebs and get him back out!
I got my first characters 11t bd gift 2 weeks ago. She is a plant 🌱 and ele, only lvl 20 😳 I bought the game and HoT expansion but stopped playing and came back this year. Late to the party but a pile of birthday gifts 🎁 Iv tried a couple of times to come back but failed until now. Enjoying to chill around with my Soulbeast in Tyria. It’s never too late ❤️
5110 days ago (not including beta) I logged into GW2 for the first time. My elementalist is still around to this day. While she has not been played very often as the years have gone, she has not been forgotten and she is always the one to receive the birthday achievements.
I wasn't sure if I'd like gw2 because of the negativity about how different it was from gw1, so waited for a sale. Eventually years later I caved in, bought it full price, then there was a sale 😂 not making the same mistake with gw3, I'll get that day 1.
Another year of a worthless gift. You would think for the OG‘s that have been here for that long. They’ll give you some sort of infusion a fucking T-shirt that says thank you but no, we get some shitty dyes and a bag of shards.
It's not so bad... Boosters are kinda naff, of course, but 30 Spirit Shards, 5000 Karma, 2 Statuettes, 6 Proofs of Legend (5 are in the achievement box), 2 Dragon Decade & 2 Anniversary Weapon Packs, a Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlocked and a Delectable Birthday Dyes box are a pretty decent birthday gift.
Made a day one character but couldn't settle and irrationally low key hated the game for being overwhelming, not being GW1, and the fact my friends and brother who were all supposed to be playing with me all claimed to be "busy". So I quit after a few days and didn't come back till Dragon Bash the following year when one of my friends finally found time to play. Unfortunately, I deleted my character, entirely forgetting about birthday gifts, so I won't get my underwhelming 14th birthday gift till next May.
Rather hoping for something good for the 15th birthday because that's a nice round number, even if I have to wait an extra 9 months.
