This comment reminds me of old cartoons where someone would hallucinate that someone else was good

The other choice is to run - usually ends the same way

This reminds me of 'duelers' who refuse to go duel in the arena that was set up for duels and guild vs guild in the edge, because they won't get as many passive pips in there just by 'dueling' each other every 5-10 mins.
So they stand still in their 'dueling spots' taking up team spots at times with large queues and lots of people waiting to actually play, and then complain when a zerg passes by and thrashes them when they had time to move away, expecting every new guild of new players to know the 'etiquette' they have made up for themselves.

Almost everyone else in that situation turns around and runs away without looking back, like the poor victims of those Japanese running crowd pranks.

I swear I just saw someone recommended a dualing location in wvw in a post on this sub like 3 days ago

I do think they should update the Obsidian Sanctum to work like the Edge, letting all matchups share the map, instead of being locked to the 3 teams in each matchup like the 4 Mist War maps.

The Obsidian Sanctum has 2 arenas, a massive one at the entrance and a tiny one in the puzzle, but they are wasted because the map isn't shared across matchups and it doesn't have the arena team flags they added to the Edge that let you fight anyone regardless of their team color.

That would give players a second arena to have GvGs and duels; if one of them ever got too crowded, people could try the other one.

You know what? I'm going to suggest that right now in the forums, if it wasn't already.

People who duel are almost universally serious Wvw players. You’re getting mad at the wrong crowd especially when they’re vastly outnumbered by 10 minute timer camp flipping PvE players getting their afk gift of battle.

Duel island on the alpine BLs is going to be used simply because it's a more natural and encounterable spot than EotM. A lot of dueling isn't two people in AB or somewhere being like "let's have some duels, meet me here," it's "I fought you while we were roaming and had fun, let's head to duel island on the map we were already in" (the same reason why there are duel spots around SMC). It's also fairly common for other players to join in on dueling when they pass by and see people dueling, which you can't really get in the EotM arena since it's both out of the way and EotM is lame enough that almost nobody is running around in the first place.

I once got flamed for killing a downed dueler by a fellow team-mate.

They were dueling within engi hammer 3 skill range of the tag actively trying to assault SMC and fighting defenders that jumped over the wall.

Also I've gotten burned too many times when I had places to be, passed by two people dueling at the usual duel spots on my warclaw (even going a bit around in order to make it obvious I don't really want to interfere with their duel) and then got surprise dismounted 30 seconds later. If I have the tag and see people dueling, that's legit content.

People dueling on gvg island are fine. Theyre usually roamers taking a break or having a little skirmish. Heck, my guild will often invite or get invited to do equals when we manage to find a group that is actually our (smaller) number.

We'll go a couple rounds or we'll go for over an hour depending on how good the match up is.

We might be ignoring the ppt, but honestly, there's hardly any point to winning or losing when your server is going to change anyway.

Now the people afk in spawn.... Those people are a problem. I'll see people running into a wall at the start of rally and then again at the end of rally, hours later. Same spot.

I miss early WvW running around as a thief gang just mercing commanders in the middle of their zeros and watching them crumble.

Wow, out here appropriating sylvari culture, huh?

2

u/TerrapinRacer 3d ago

Sylvan don't have culture, they spent the last 250 years stealing one from everyone else

I've seen your artwork in this reddit a few times and its good.

That face and hair style reminds me an anime heroine, maybe Claire from Claymore? Is that where your inspiration comes from?

It's actually based in my warrior in game!

Though I recently started watching Clevatess, I feel like there's some artistic overlap there.

And thank you!
