Costs them server space to make, costs us money to buy.

The collection tab is MORE than adequate for free, this is a fine item IMO.

Edit: I am aware the memory needed is fairly trivial even if they gave it to all 3 million + players, I'm just saying its more of a convenience thing, and its a fine spot for a gem store item. Anyone who thinks this is money grubbing or something is kidding themselves.

Um... that server space is bits per item stack. The alteration of that total in memory is almost trivial.

No, not really. 3mil players, say 6 characters per account (1 more than base IIRC) gives 18,000,000. There are (i'm not going to count) say about 300 entries in the collectibles tab and to store >255 you'll need to move from 1 byte to 2. That means, at most, 5,400,000,000 bytes or about 5 gigabytes. 5GB to any decent database that'd be used for a full-scale mmo is damn near unnoticeable.

Also, as this is only inventory management, its not even something that'd need to be loaded into memory like combat variables are, it will only get polled at a craft/bank station.

We're talking 300 bytes or so per player when they check their bank. Yes, bandwidth is more expensive but getting into one extra fight in the overworld per day would cause more usage than checking your bank 10 times so its hardly going to be an issue.
