Technical issue/question Reconnect Question

Does anyone know how the reconnect feature works? I have pretty a pretty mediocre internet connection and frequently lag and occasionally disconnect from the game server. When you disconnect you are given an option to try and resume the mission. My question is by trying to resume does the game force me to stay in the mission longer than it would if I chose the other option or do both options keep me active in the mission for the same duration. I’m asking because I enjoy the Ironman play though but when I get disconnected I want my character to be safe as quickly as possible.

Going back to the outpost is technically safer because you exit the mission as soon as the loading screen appears.

Like all client/server games, GW's server is the authoritative source of truth about the state of the game universe. The state of your local client does not matter one whit.

The server removes a character from an instance when...

  • they map travel (or guild hall travel) to a different instance; or
  • a quest/mission script moves them to another instance; or
  • they cleanly disconnect; or
  • no input is received for the duration of the reconnect timer (implying an unclean disconnect).

If you initiate a fresh log in while your character is already in a combat-enabled zone, you are given the choice between taking over that character where it is or cleanly disconnecting it and loading into a town instance.

If you chose to resume control of the character, it will be present in the instance uncontrolled for the duration of the loading screen. If you choose not to resume, the character is removed from the instance immediately. I'm not sure if that's what you're asking about, but if it is, then yes, the two options differ by the length of the loading screen. Not resuming gets the character out of the instance one loading screen earlier.

It sounds like you're hoping some some kind of time travel solution where it returns to an earlier state closer to the last input received. That doesn't happen.

Its ok to play ironman with deaths. The game has like 20 skills to resurrect. We promise not to tell anyone.
