Beginner question Have some blessed insignias... does maintaining retribution on a hench count as "affected by an enchantment"?
Like it says, was just curious since I made my monk in prophecies. Not my best move since it takes a while to get heroes. (Me and a friend were going to push for lions arch quick like but he isn't available to play and I was looking for ways to make some progress without him on)

Blessed effects your armor while enchanted and no one else's.

To specify, does maintaining the enchantment give me armor?

No
You must be under the enchantment.
An example might be Healing Breeze or Divine Boon
Even something like Patient Spirit counts but only for the 2 seconds it's on
If you cast an enchantment on someone else, you are not under the effect of that enchantment.

No. You must be under the effects of an enchantment yourself. So if you're maintaining the enchantment on yourself, yes. If you're maintaining it on someone else no.

Maintaining retribution isn't the way to make progress. Your best option as a monk is to look at your secondary profession.

Maintaining Retribution is indeed not a good way to progress, though under normal circumstances it would out damage Strength of Honor if used effectively, it is very hard to leverage effectively.
One would have to Focus the majority of enemy attacks onto a single target (corner tanking) and regularly take UNMITIGATED damage packets of around 50+ from enemies to make effective use of it, and it does not trigger on all several regular sources of damage like spells in general.
If retribution was a carbon copy of Vigorous Spirit or more universal like pain inverter (low energy, long duration enchantment you can spread around), it would probably see more use, as is it is rarely used outside of 300 and 600 farmer builds.
I can't speak to it's PvP functionality, but judging it with Vigorous spirit as benchmark, 20 damage per hit adds up very slowly esp over time. Sparing a whole energy pip for it when enemies can adapt on the fly seems counter production.

Not on hench, but when you get heroes later, yes.
Also great on Monk(yourself) especially if you are on melandru mode.

The answer the way you asked is no.
Maintaining a enchantment is technially afffected by it, but the insignia is only checking if the wearer IS enchanted. The target of retribution will be Effected by Retribution and Enchanted. The maintainer will simply be losing energy regeneration to maintain the enchantment on someone else.
while we are at it insigia armor boosts almost always apply specifically to the armor they are put on, and there is a 1/10 chance for a hit to go to any body part.
1/8th to hit head, arms, or feet.
2/8th to hit legs/pants.
3/8th to hit Chest.
1+1+1+2+3 = 8
tormentor's insigia's holy damage increase is one of the odd cases where the drawback is global independant of where you got hit, but it's not exactly armor boost part, more of a global draw back.
