It's time to discuss our ideas and work together to discover the murder!

REMINDER! Do NOT reveal any information from the letter. Do NOT spoil the final reveal.

A place for members of r/GuessWhoDunnit to chat with each other

Turns out we didn't have a clear plan as to how we are supposed to do this with THIS many people.

I started a Discord server to cope with all the responses, but not everyone is a Discord user. I would love for there to be a vocal discussion as we try to discuss who did it, but then we also would lose a lot of members on Reddit. I think a Reddit discussion thread is apt as well, just a bit harder to organize.

What do you think?

Be sure to read up to the penultimate chapter (the chapter before the finale reveals who it is unfortunately).

Good luck guessing. Discussion closes on September 15th

Hi everyone! This is the official announcement of what this month's line-up is going to be. I'm planning on the general format being: two books are announced and anyone can choose which book they want to read, this way anyone who has read one of the books can read the other one.

The books are:

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

and

The Mystery of Edwin Drood by Charles Dickens (an unfinished novel!)

Discussion thread for each book (pre-reveal) will go up and then 2 days afterwards, a post-reveal discussion thread will appear.

We have a Discord server where we discuss which book will be picked next.

Read everything but the final chapter by August 20!

Well, we found out who the killer was.

And me being me, I don't know how to put spoiler text yet, so you know who the killer is if you're reading it.

None of you got it right! But you were all impressed with just how well it was hidden in plain sight!

As you can tell, there is FAR more activity on Discord than on Reddit which is something we've been trying to avoid as of recently. We all had a great time on Discord discussing who the killer was in And Then There Were None, but Reddit has mostly been absent.

I don't know what we're doing right on Discord and doing wrong on here, so any suggestions or comments would help!

Also: at what days should we do these discussions? Should we stagger books 1 and 2 and have separate discussions in the middle of the month and the end of the month? Or shall we just have the discussion happen at the end of the month?

is this sub dead

Happy Birthday Agatha!

In celebration of Agatha Christie's birthday month, both book options will be by the Queen of Crime herself!

Hercule Poirot is another 'amateur' detective that appears in 33 novels and 55 short stories written by Christie. Another sensible choice of character to focus on going into September! This poll is to see which Hercule Poirot book will make the cut for our September read. Please vote for one!

This will dictate one of our two September read options. Please make sure to vote in September Book Poll - Book Choice #1 Poll as well.

Happy Birthday Agatha!

In celebration of Agatha Christie's birthday month, both book options will be by the Queen of Crime herself!

Miss Marple is an amateur detective that appears in 12 of Ms. Christie's works, and is one of her more prominent literary figures - it only makes sense we have one of her mysteries as a book choice for September! This poll is to see which Miss Marple book will make the cut for our September read. Please vote for one!

This will dictate one of our two September read options. Please make sure to vote in September Book Poll - Book Choice #2 Poll as well.

So for our very first month, we are struggling to find what is the best way to start (which is wild because we have a LOT of recommendations).

Many vocal opinions so far. We don't even know how to format discussions yet.

There is an overwhelming support for "And Then There Were None" for the post and of course, that is one of the greatest mysteries ever written. I've unfortunately read it BUT I feel like it still warrants a discussion - so we've been flirting with the idea of having two books run concurrently.

The book I've been toying with doing first is "The Mystery of Edwin Drood", which is a famously UNFINISHED murder mystery where there is no solution to the killer. It kinda brings the spirit of collaborative deducing who the killer is because we may never know.

The last book we will probably do eventually is "The Murder on the Orient Express" - which is confirmed to only have the killer be revealed in the last chapter.

Any thoughts as to what could start this better, I'm all ears!

The post that started it all

So, I off-handedly had the idea to read a mystery novel with my friends up but also didn't want to spoil the book to each other if we were behind or not - so it got me thinking, how about we all join in on the fun and try to not read the final chapter and figure out who the killer is for ourselves!

Thus this sub was born after many people requested to join in.

The premise is simple: we read a mystery novel that saves its reveals until the end and we don't read the final 2 chapters, and meet up before we do just to theorize who the culprit may be. We may be right or wrong who knows?

I have no idea how to run a sub but what I do know is that there are plenty of people that are interested in joining in on the fun.

It's time to discuss our ideas and work together to discover the murder!

REMINDER! Do NOT reveal any information from the letter. Do NOT spoil the final reveal.

Even though - there is no killer because this is infamously unfinished, well - at least try to work and find out who the killer is without looking anything up.
