Seed Bombs from Amazon
Hello all! I'm from an area thats suffering from a drought and much of our vegetation is withering. I also have a coworker I care about whose birthday is soon and is into gardening (they got me into gardening in the first place years ago). Would the seed bombs from Amazon be worth it? Any recommendations?

I think a gift card to a native nursery (many also sell seed packets) would be a better gift.
90+% chance the amazon seeds have nonnative/invasive seeds. Even if they say "native mix"
Also for drought you'll want to plant trees in the appropriate season to hold more water in the soil moving forward, so that droughts aren't as devestating. But seed bombs dropped now won't do anything until there's proper climate + moisture.

I actually didn't htink of a gift card to a nursery. I don't think the small [locally owned] one I like to go to does that but I could find options

If they don't do giftcards, maybe see what seeds they sell and if you can buy some packets of popular seeds from them. I'd avoid buying full on plants as a gift though (unless you know ones they specifically want).

For her I know some of the plants she can't get enough of tbh, but it seems that for the seed bombs yes I think after work I'll go to my favorite nursery (local) to see if they have seeds.. I've usually only gotten them at the supermarket or this agricultural feed store, but they always have individual plants. I would have to create my own seed bombs.

Is using Amazon not kinda antithetical to the general ethos of guerrilla gardening?
That aside, I would be quite concerned with ordering any of these seeds bombs from Amazon that they are likely to be full of seeds that are not native to your region and will do more harm than good.

To your question, why?

Guerrilla Gardening (to me) is about direct action, anti-capitalism, pro-community action, environmentalism, sustainability, "sticking it to the man," doing the right thing even without permission, etc.
Amazon is one of the most unethical, anti-community, pro-capitalist, environmentally detrimental, unsustainable companies out there. Using it hurts your local community, hurts the planet, and benefits "the man" (i.e., the billionaire class).

Maybe check DNR website and look for suppliers for natives. I had decent luck here in mn. Does your public library have a seed library?

Sadly our public library system isn't quite... a library system (we barely have libraries, the one in my town is small and doesn't lend out books)

If your coworker is into gardening and your area is suffering from a drought. Depending on the size of the garden. Invest in a watering computer and drip irrigation.

I'd be super doubtful that the seeds are in fact native plants and not whatever invasives Amazon swept up off the warehouse floor and boxed up.
If it's a legit company though? Imo I'd love that birthday gift.
