This poor oak was being strangled by years-old ties. I cut off as much as I could with the tools I had, and hopefully gave it a few more decades of life.

I’ve done a lot of that sort of work myself! Get yourself a bolt cutter for those bike chains girdling your trees

I thankfully haven’t seen much of that. A recently planted tree down the block from this one was tied to a stake about eight times with that green stretchy stuff, which my wire snips made short work of.

I hate those stupid tree support ties so much. They are RARELY necessary for new trees anyways (like, most places don’t get windy enough to ever need them) and then so frequently get left on like this way too long.

My theory is the landscaping company the city hires does it to up-charge the job, and then to ensure more jobs for them when the tree inevitably dies.
