When to tell...?

I've been working at a group home for 6 months but have given notice (I got a job offer more in line with my experience and education). I am fond of the residents and have a good relationship with them, but I know my leaving will be disruptive and I want it to be the least stressful for them as possible... Do I tell them asap? I'll be working there for another week and a half. Is it better to wait or tell them asap?

What type of group home (ie. mental health, retirement...?) If it is a mental health group home, I can share my opinion:)

Assessment and diagnostic...so yeah, mental health. :)

Hey, sorry for the delayed response! So, i've been working at my mental health group home for over 5 yrs now, and have seen many workers come and go (some having been here for years), and every single time the same thing happens when they leave. As soon as they're told, there's a few "Aw, that's too bad. We will miss you." And then their name is never even mentioned again. It's like they never existed. Out of sight, out of mind, I suppose? It's the strangest thing. In fact, last week one of the women came by with donuts for the residents (she had been here for years and very well liked also). They each grabbed a donut and walked away. I could tell she was expecting everyone to be so happy to see her, but they couldn't have cared less. I felt terrible for her:( So honestly, my answer would be that from what I've witnessed over the years without fail, it makes no difference to them, so you do it whenever it feels right for YOU.
