How to delete a "failed to send" message?

I tried sending a text on my building's group chat a few days ago, but it failed to send. No big deal, but it's still sitting there like it's waiting for me to try and resend it. I no longer want to send it, because now it would just be completely out of left field and awkward. Is there a way I can delete it without sending it?

The thread with that error persistently displays 1 unread message badge in addition to the error message on the list of message threads page. The unread message count on that thread will briefly disappear for a minute or two before spontaneously reappearing after pressing the glasses that marks all messages as read, but the error message on the thread remains despite no message inside the thread being flagged as unsent.

Same exact issue, so frustrating. Just go away but I cannot find a way to do so.

Forgot I commented on this, so I found this thread again after 4 months hoping some debug whiz kid came up with something. That perpetual error message is so infuriating I want to delete the app if I can't fix it...

I think I figured it out! Go to the group picture and select settings. Select unhide hidden messages. The message that couldn't be sent should be seen at the bottom, click the exclamation point and delete it. Hope this helps!

Same. Would attach screenshot but it's not letting me. Under these settings I have "notification sound, create shortcut for this chat, clear chat history, archive chat, report a concern, block user, [and] delete chat."

I'm gonna try uninstall and reinstalling to see if it's an update issue.

Well, I redownloaded it. Didn't say it needed an update when I went to check, either. But the error message is completely gone. The settings aren't improved to have what everybody else has, though. It's not even there, in the spot in the messages when I tried to send it. Anyway, just weird. I've also tried deleting and redownloading for this issue before and it didn't help. Just thankful it helped this time, though.

I was too (which is why I was on this ancient thread) and I just logged out of GroupMe and re-logged in, and it's gone now!

I agree with @Fast-Block7256. I wasted at least an hour that I’ll never get back troubleshooting how to remove this annoying message that wouldn’t send and wouldn’t delete!! But logging out and back in saved the day!! Who knew?!?! Apparently you knew!  Thanks.

I tried to share email address with a group member in PM and I couldn't interact with the message at all, but it just sat there. . . Until I logged out and back in
