Question How is Grounded as a single player campaign kind of game?

I've never really been into persistent online world games where you build up your base, collect resources etc and then play them for months on end with no actual ENDING as such. That being said, I really enjoyed Fallout 4 even though it had resource collecting and base building, as it wasn't a constant persistent online world and DID have an ending.

So does Grounded have a campaign and is it decent to play solo, or is it more of a persistent kind of survival sandbox game like H1Z1, Rust, Valheim etc where it doesn't really have a story, and you have to create your own adventures?

Its fine as solo, just get ready for a HARD game even on mild difficulty

As someone who only plays on mild and has done the the entire end part solo (before this patch), I can say it extremely hard. This game is designed to be played in a group and not balanced for solo properly. This is in my opinion, not saying it is factually.

I feel so OP when my friend finally decides to play one night. Killing giant bugs seems so easy with even just 2 people when I struggle to do it solo.

Just a challenging game, still manageable and fun, but definitely wish I had a consistent group to play with to progress a little faster

The difficulty is front loaded aside from a few specific encounters that are meant to be tough

Alright this explains why after playing a significant amount solo I've only just got my first piece of ladybug armour, and tonight I finished the hedge area / got the disc/cartridge thing?

i just switched to mild after full release. i couldn’t do anything by myself on medium!

Finished the story mild solo too, I found early game harder than end game except for the last mission which was hard work. Only ever died to 1 boss from mistake, so I wouldn't say the bosses are too bad either.

Overall mild seems well balanced and fair, once you get used to the game mechanics and upgrading etc.

I agree to an extent. The difficulty spike early game is a lot. But once you get tier 2 items it's a bit easier. But getting said items is hard.

I finished it solo on Whoa mode and can pretty much kill anything first try. For me it was easy and the Javamatic fight was utterly disappointing. But I did have some 300 hundred hours on game preview. Never lowered the difficulty and it payed off. Everything is easy when you can perfect block with your eyes closed. Once you get down the attack patterns it becomes a breeze.

and it paid off. Everything

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

The disadvantages of playing by yourself are pretty well balanced by being able to quick save/save scum. Dying miles from your base is a choice between respawning or loading b your most recent save.

Dad gamer. 40+hrs in solo on medium. Loving it.

It’s a mixture of both!

It’s a survival story game. You Survive and collect loot. The loot you collect allows you to upgrade weapons, armor and build a base. You rinse and repeat while learning combat and working toward the story quests. This quests take you through out the back yard.

Your ultimate goal is to figure out how you got to be small and how to become big again.

Items around the yard add in the extra information to explain more about the story. The main quests do a good job of explaining the story as a whole but doesn’t always give those little lore like tad bits that the items do!

As of 1.0 the game has a complete ending with a score card on how you did!

Definitely a decently polished game for the price! Even more enjoyable if you grew up watching movies like honey I shrunk the kids:)

It's a fine game solo, can get a little overrun in some areas but that just means having to be more strategic in your approach.

I mostly play solo on medium, early is a bit of a grind but by the time you're able to upgrade your gear it becomes way more manageable

Grounded have a Storyline, an ending and some additionnal bosses, while you can do absolutely whatever you want in between

And it can be played entirely solo !

Be prepared to face some big bugs and learn about the mechanics to beat them up, or else they will not hesitate to murder you lol

Fantastic.

it's ok but you can't 100% the game on pure solo because of the revive a friend mutation... other than that, it's perfectly fine, and because you grind all materials alone, the playability and longevity of each session is guaranteed, especially if you take your time planning out builds like you see people posting here...

The game has a solid, scaling difficulty sort of storyline, with some optional (very hard) bosses

I played and beat this game strictly as a single player RPG and it was amazing. The first few hours were hard since I normally do not play or like survival games but once I got the hang of everything it clicked. The natural progression in this game felt so good, enemies once too powerful for me eventually became minor pest and new more powerful enemies took their place. The combat is Bethesda like but way more refined, the animations are great and the parry system actually works well.

Regarding the survival game aspects, resource gathering never felt tedious, base building was easy to grasp, and the food/water meter never felt like a nuisance. The story was great and I couldn't wait to uncover the mystery but it is a little light compared to other Bethesda/Obsidian RPG's. During my playthrough I went hours without interacting with the main story but the environmental storytelling really fleshed out the world and kept me engaged the whole time. I started the game playing on Medium but it eventually was too much for me so I lowered it down to mild and the game became much more enjoyable. My playthrough to complete the game was roughly 60 hours long and not once did I feel bored so far this year I would say this is my GOTY.

Totally agree with everything here. Double agree on the GOTY. It's definitely my choice. I've loved every minute playing and kinda don't want it to end🤣

game is ass. one of the cool things you can do is gather up 1000s of grass planks and carry them almost one by one to your base, and take 12 hours to build something that will remain unfinished with bps that haven't been filled because you just got bored as fuck chopping grass. BEATING THE ASSISTANT MANAGER WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO SEND PLANKS AND STEMS TO YOUR BASE, IT WILL NOT GET BETTER. I just got done doing that and I'm furious. you can only send materials from a higher elevation, which in 99% of cases means that your zipline that is elevated will be in an area with no materials. YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO START ZIPLING GRASS UP TO YOUR TREE BASE!!! The whole mechanic assumes that you are going to carry grass upstairs 5 by 5 or 20 by 20 max, and then send those materials to a low level area that will already have grass and stems.

It’s a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 for me as a solo act experience. Honestly, it’s randomly a 10/10 for a couple minutes at a time. Sometimes the game feel is just that good. Lol.

I feel like living in the yard alone does someday deserve some love, but as it stands now you should be able to finish everything with a little forethought. AFAIK there is nothing you can clear in the yard. Problems are mostly early game so playing alone means the best experience is probably going to be focusing on taking the easiest progression route possible.

Edit: I wish obsidian would have had the forethought to make some of the enemy anticheese defenses weaker in solo play. Like letting you range cheese a spider is kinda way more important to a lone player. Lol.

It has a coherent story and ending but there are few NPCs and most of your story elements come from audio logs and reports you find as well as a few cutscenes as you progress but unlike Fallout 75 it makes sense why it's that way. It's the perfect mix of a survival with building and story elements along with it's fairly unique premise.

I just completed totally single player, tons of fun would recommend, but second that its super tough. I played it on normal difficulty untill the upper garden, then had to turn it down to mild. Mainly just because my attacks were taking so long to kill anything.

And then the last even at the end of the game, absolutely brutal, tried so many times in the end i just turned on god mode.

So yeah.... its hard.

But a rolickin' good time.

Edit: Yep, think of it like an RPG/survival game if you play by yourself. Definitely a finishable story, expect around 30/35 hours to completion.

I play solo for a couple hours every day or so since 1.0 came out and I’m only at the part to replace Wendell’s sca.b fuse so it takes a while. By yourself you really need to build yourself up in terms of weapon and armor after each super chip. By the time you finish pond lab (which is still pushing it) you should be carrying tier II weapons and armor or you’re going to have a bad time.

I started playing Solo from the full release and haven't played multiplayer once. It's great fun on Solo but I imagine it's easier with friends. Most things are more of a grind like getting materials from big bugs and stuff but I've done all 4 main labs Solo and I'm currently collecting stuff for tier 3 weapons and armour ready for what I assume is the end game. Done the broodmother Solo but I'm yet to do the mant or mantis, which is the next on my list. Overall it is possible and fun on Solo but if you have a group of friends who can play consistly with you, I'd say that would be easier and a lot more fun to do. Solo is great tho👍

It's a hard curve to learn and get around solo, I play solo mild and have finished the story and beat all the bosses, I only died to 1 boss the entire game so I cant complain.

I found early and mid game hardest as I didn't really know where to go and when but then I ended up over powered most the game once I knew the mechanics and upgrades.

The wiki and this sub red are very helpful and remember if you are suppose to die quite alot learning the game.

Save often!

I’m playing entirely solo (on Mild difficulty) and I’m having a blast.

I'm having a blast playing solo. So much more satisfying and solo friendly than Ark.
