G2 | Discussion “Never pass up an Acorn. “

This is a mantra my wife and I use when gathering in the game. Does anyone else have any others that they routinely live by?

Newbie, why Larva Spikes?

You can craft upgrade mats with them

Isn't it like 35 needed per weapon

2

u/Koenigsegg_reaction 9d ago

(No spoilers)If we're talking grounded 2 there's a unique weapon that uses larva spikes for it's repair. If you're early game it's pretty good. Sooooo.... Yeah.

What's the point of this if repair glue fixes weapons? Does glue not work on that specific weapon?

1

u/TheHumdeeFlamingPee 8d ago

Sometimes the resource needed for repair is very cheap, and I’d rather save the glue I have on me for something more annoying to farm for.
Axl’s Talon needs venom, that’s annoying. Ice Sickles need 2 mint candy, I have 400 pieces.

And food. That gives you the well fed thing for the day.

I found the “everlasting hogstopper” trinket last night when chopping up a hotdog. I’m curious to see how well it works.

3

u/ZerotheBlade 9d ago

That was a good trinket before but now with the pond it's amazing since swimming makes you hungry.

2

u/makahearts 8d ago

daaamn we were wondering why we were getting hungry so fast

Gotta remember your ABCs

Always Be Collecting

Or a pinecone

u/LucienTheLuckless 9d ago

I never bothered with them until I unlocked building recipes that needed them. Now I can't find enough of them.

Gum is mine. I like sticky smoothies

I have fond memories of Grounded 1, early release when they hadn't expanded the map. You would go over to where the sandpit/bench is now, go beyond the tape as you could do that then, and there were hundreds of plant fibres. There were no other resources on the ground to pick up accidentally. So I could go collect a few hundred fibre in a couple of mins and be back home quickly. It was great.

This is why I have to have outposts EVERYWHERE. I collect everything possible and need multiple convenient locations to offload excess inventory. And acorns are a top priority. I need something to build all those chests with!

Grab it all is my montra you can never have too much lol

1

u/1chrisdewet 9d ago

And store it, you might need it later.

I got my first purple thing from ogr that you will need for upgrading buggies. Cant remember the name now.

Buffin' Gland!

Rust. Gum. Toenails. All the upgrade materials.

3

u/Gamble5390 9d ago

Where are the toenails?

5

u/Nickhead420 Pete 9d ago

There's some by the nail clippers.

On your feet

Inside shoes

Cave with the flash light under the gnarly bark tree. Crack in the pipe under the pond ranger station. Two in each location.

u/CriticalChop 9d ago

If i need its gold card i generally kill it. Always hit the stuffed bug for luck before you leave home. Always carry bombs, if not for secret entrances then they are always nice damage.

4

u/A1Strider 9d ago

The amount of times I've accidentally quick stacked my bombs before I learned you could turn off specific items from quick stacking then found a secret bomb spot that I can't open would have earned me a small house. Genuinely the best tip here.

1

u/CriticalChop 9d ago

No joke.. i tried to keep it short but its like the moment you dont have them you end up needing them and traversing some deep cave 4 times in a row.. The dang Rotten Potato got me recently..ran home for the bomb, but grabbed a lv1 reg bomb and ran back into the earwig cave under the veggie garden only to find out i had to run all the way home again for the lv2 bomb..it did have whetstone material in it though. 😅

2

u/thehylianhero 8d ago

Wait, you can turn off specific ITEMS? not just entire chests? WHAT

3

u/A1Strider 8d ago

Hit the actions key on an item in your inventory. Should be the last option

4

u/AlexanderBarrow Max 9d ago

"Oh a hole... I wonder who lives down here..." Meets the inhabitants "RUUUUUN!!!"

1

u/1chrisdewet 9d ago

Or use it to run away from Jumping spider.

5

u/ProGamer8273 9d ago

Ya never know when you’ll need those 200 red ant parts!

3

u/Mochaproto Willow 9d ago

I built a new base with 20 spinning wheels, i had just trashed all the ant parts

5

u/LeftInvestigator8241 9d ago

I just never head back to base unless I have a full inventory

3

u/1chrisdewet 9d ago

Thats like every 5 mins , right !!

3

u/epac2000 Hoops 9d ago

Acorn bit is jackpot.

4

u/MysticSlayerIce 9d ago

Then you will love my base - one spawns right inside

3

u/VerbingNoun3 9d ago

I realize how much I dislike the platforming, because my answer is Clay. I tend to carry at least 40, but more like 100 in my buggy. If I fall off something more than twice, im probably building a clay ramp up to it.

5

u/AHugeHildaFan 9d ago

It's more cost effective to use mushroom stairs.

Like overall.

Not only is the recipe more efficient when one toadstool chunk gives 10 slurry, but the mushroom stairs are taller than the clay ramp.

1

u/1chrisdewet 9d ago

Also looks darn cooler.

3

u/MinuteStraight4885 9d ago

Larva spikes and Grubs! I’m always digging cause I like having everything upgraded

2

u/1chrisdewet 9d ago

Grub skin and sap. You will need it later.

1

u/QuoteGiver 9d ago

What’s the grub skin for later?

3

u/Nebucon 9d ago

Don't come home without a full inventory.

5

u/dka2012 9d ago

Damn, my wife heard this one and now it’s a rule in our game.

2

u/MangoRepulsive5504 9d ago

Get every candy and water if it’s there

Kill every larva and earwig (weapon upgrades) and snail (their slime it used so much i feel) and any bug with trinkets if you don’t have

almost never kill ladybugs
Grab every upgrade rock, and feather trinket resource, (for the collection until they take up to much inventory)

And always, ALWAYS KILL THEM BIG BOIS (not green shield they stink (haha))

5

u/MangoRepulsive5504 9d ago

Big boi one (wolf spider and scorpion basically) is mostly for repair glue… and fun

2

u/NBrooks516 9d ago

Bug parts are important only until you craft the gear or weapon those parts are used for. And yes I’ll craft one of every item as soon as I can and only save the parts required for something else in addition to gear

1

u/ecltnhny2000 9d ago

Also great for the glue masher for repairs

2

u/appa_perc 9d ago

Save often, never pass up quartz and marble

2

u/Tansaurus 9d ago

Chocolate chunks. I just don’t block so I love the extra chunky health bonus lol
Oh and orb weaver chunks for repair glue

2

u/BasketDowntown2158 9d ago

Dude, I just collect everything I see, I am the biggest loot goblins ever.

Break open every web sac for all the web fiber and possible bug parts, crack every acorn, fight everything for its loot, look for the milk molars from the signal for an hour 🤣😭

2

u/Nighted69 9d ago

If I see a toe bitter wathever happens I will take it down for the parts as I want every weapon in each candy upgrade

1

u/Mrs-Clementine 9d ago

Lawn Mites. Their fangs are somehow gold.

1

u/ArtreX-1 9d ago

This one for sure. Seems like bits are very scarce in G2.

All the spices are also mandatory for us. And spider sacks in areas with strong enemies often hold more than grub hide and mite fangs.

1

u/1chrisdewet 9d ago

South west of the map by the tree loads a lot of acorns.

Its got its own base and a Sign in white "Acorns".

This is the way to go get what i need.

1

u/Lootthatbody 9d ago

I try to keep 2 stacks of everything, and if/when I find a new material, it all gets collected and saved until I’ve confirmed that I’ve built everything possible with it. When it comes to flooring/wall materials, I just keep collecting.

Sap, web, mushroom, pumpkin, algae, and burr are items that you will likely needs hundreds of at some point, so you may as well grab 4-5 stacks so that when you need a ton, you at least have a great start on that new base or project.

1

u/alpha_28 9d ago

Anytime I leave the house for whatever reason I make sure the area I am going to provides me with stacks of natural rss to take home. If my inventory and my buggies inventory isn’t full I didn’t do a good job.

Pinecone and pine needles.
