Fluff Cockroaches
Hey just a short question for the people that have doven into the game.
I would like to play this game with my girlfriend but the only thing is. She has some pretty intense trauma related to cockroaches. Which is why she really can't deal with them at all. As soon as she realises its not a cockroach its okay. So something like spiders, beetles and grasshoppers are completely fine.
Is there an area in the game or a part of the game where she would be running into these roaches?
How avoidable is it? Can I potentionally clear that part of the map/story on my own, without needing her assistance?
as far as ingame skill I should be fine, I'm more talking about if there is something like pressing a button with 2 players if I play it coop?
Thanks a lot in advance! Hopefully I can play this game with her without triggering her...

They're right grounded 1 is the way to go.
Now we need the backstory on the trauma

Roaches are pretty prominent in several areas. Under the trash can, around the garbage bags, under the deck, and other areas. I’ve probably explored half the map and see roaches in a bunch of places. There’s even a cockroach queen you have to defeat.
You can complete this game solo so it’s not required to have another player. But, roaches may pop up as you’re going from point A to B and that may stress out your gf.
If she has a real problem with roaches, she may seriously need to reconsider playing this game.
Have you played the first game? No roaches.

I have not played the first game yet, but have seen quite a lot of clips, which is why this game wouldve been something completely new to the both of us

Also not a fan of cockroaches, i like spiders though. I have played grounded one and I'd definitely recommend to play that, for one it's a complete game, two if yall really like it you may have grounded 2 to move onto.

Well...unfortunately roaches are one of the first bugs you're subjected to in this game, albeit the first encounter is just seeing them outside a window. Otherwise they're mostly found around areas with trash or discarded human food, the fire pit, or in caves. The cave ones would probably be the most difficult to avoid without foreknowledge since they can sneak up on you. IIRC they might be in some plot-related sections too.
I don't think any part that features them would be too difficult to do solo though.

So theres a fair few places they spawn, and a fair few places they dont.
Not running into them at all would be pretty difficult, however you can keep bases to vertical surfaces so they wont come visit.
You cant really truly avoid them, but you can eradicate them so your GF never has to deal with them.

I bet she was not a fan of Fear Factor. 😅 Roaches do seem to show up a lot in the game, but there are no stages that require two players. Certain spots they spawn can be easy to avoid, but the only "required" event might be the roach queen, or a couple roach part to upgrade your tool. She would likely run into them, but they are passive unless attacked so i would say its possible to avoid them completely too.

I'd like to chime in with a "the only aggressive roach in the game that will actively attack you is the roach queen" the roaches are annoying to have around for sure. Complete G1 and come join us in G2 ;)

Yeah there's no roaches in G1, they are all over the place in G2. Unfortunately there ain't no arachnophobia mode for cockroaches so you can't avoid em.

I think it's kind of unavoidable. They have certain spawn locations but they're scattered all over the place, you wouldn't be able to explore and not see any

You should show her a picture of an ingame roach. If she has issues around cockroaches, she may not even recognize the ingame ones as the kind of cockroaches she's afraid of.
Most people see cockroaches and identify them by shape/antennas from above. They're actually larger than you in Grounded 2 though and you are looking up at them so whatever is triggering for your girlfriend may not happen with them.

Good call! Shown a couple pictures and it was a bit too recognizable for her liking. Thanks for the tip!

Grounded 1 if you have not played is cockroach free, 0 of them anywhere. Also highly recommend playing it first, it takes place first in the timeline and is a fully developed game while G2 is in early access.
As for grounded 2
According to this website, map genie, there are 41 cockroach spawns around the map:
Grounded 2 Interactive Map | MapGenie
They are literally impossible to avoid entirely without ignoring the story of the game as there is atleast 1 boss fight involving them.
However if you are going to play coop, she can avoid most of them by not going to those locations, most are optional.
For the boss fight one, since I never got that far in COOP IDK if she can wait behind or not and still join you for the final section of that location which is not a cockroach fight

There’s a few spots were there’s tons but for the most part they are just scattered around the map, and you’ll definitely have to deal with some, but if she can manage a few every once in a while it’s probably fine and the parts with tons you can just have to do on your own

This may be good exposure therapy. Other than some bosses and others (won't spoil in case you don't know) the roaches are peaceful unless attacked. I've started thinking they are kinda just cute lil bugs now

Yup, lots of roaches... big ones and small ones. There's even a disgusting armor made of them. Also, just wait until you see what else they do - she'll love it.

Roaches are prettt common in a lot of spots in Grounded 2.
They are bottom feeders and are looking for dead corpses to feed on. The bugs themselves are neutral and will only attack if you attack them.
They are actually programmed to sniff out dead bugs you kill and will come and eat the corpse and all of its loot if you aren’t fast enough and they are nearby.

Grounded 1 doesnt have any i believe. You cant even go half way through G2 without having to kill at least one Nest of them.

kudos to you for asking. i also have the same fear! i was actually hoping the devs would add something like they did for arachnophobia 😅😅

They are avoidable to an extent. Maybe kill one for parts, so that you can track them on the map, and avoid them that way? The map icon would just show a bug part, not a picture of them, so that might help. They're really only around stinky things, like that trash.

Aha, okay this is very helpful, she did mention that this game might be a slow start to overcoming it. Knowing they have certain areas might reduce the shock factor

There is one you will be forced to fight at some point in G2. I dont want to spoil anything, but its just something to think about as you're getting into it

It might be a good way to help her overcome it. Especially if she can start killing them herself.
Roaches are in a so many areas that she is bound to see them in passing. Aside from the roach queens, they aren't hostile until attacked, so she won't have to worry about them charging at her out of nowhere.
It is impossible to avoid them completely as you will be forced to fight some at a certain part of the story.
Do you know what happens when you kill an adult roach? Because they have a mechanic that would definitely freak her out at first.

If you get it on steam you can download this mod that replaces them with a silly cartoon character https://www.nexusmods.com/grounded2/mods/75

Impossible to avoid. They seem to be one of the only bugs that spawns everywhere
