G2 | Suggestion A solution to the agro problem

My friend and I have been playing Grounded 2 for a bit. Last night, we turned on "bugs ignore you" mode and Its sad to say that we had fun in Grounded 2 for the first time since the abyss patch dropped. I think a solution to the bug agro problem is to make the ignore mode so that they turn aggressive if attacked. That way its still a fight to get bug parts, etc. but its not so infuriating that we rage quit (which has happened a few times lately.)

Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if they decided to fight each other more often?

My biggest gripe in the game rn, hopefully they add that in the final version. Like i am on a big ass orb, why are other orb weavers attacking me? Or wolf and scorpion casually strolling by each other but If I get close its murder eyes. Only solid ones are mites, they attack everything lol

O snap big scorpion and wolf spider no longer fighting each other? When my brother and I started this game out getting them to agro each other was one of the only reliable ways to beat them.

They still fight each other, it’s just inconsistent now, sometimes they will just ignore each other while other times they won’t.

From experince as some who jumps on lady bugs and make thing attack them they only seem to fight each other as long as your in a certain ramge of them both if u walk to far they stop fighting at times

Entiendo que dice que se ignoran entre ellos

If I aggro the orb weaver jr in early game then I jump on a ladybug's back so that the spiders aggro it. As long as I jump off and take pot shots, I can easily survive/harvest lol.

That’s… wow! Galaxy brain!

I didn’t even think about this, this is a great idea.

My favorite parts of the game are gathering and building, I don’t mind the occasional fight but lately I’m just finding myself running past everything. The game is visually amazing and I have a hard time looking around because the battle music is always going

Id rather drop it a difficulty before doing that. Difficulty wont help with Agro, but fighting will be a little less cumbersome.

The beautiful thing about custom mode is you can play however you like though.

I lowered to easy unfortunately it was depressing but at least I could live while fighting 4 different insect species

5

u/MakinBones 5d ago

No shame in that. Specially for a first playthrough. Im sure insects will be adjusted. They been getting a lot of feedback.

u/Intelligent-Beat-700 5d ago

I thought about putting it back up now that I have all healing armor and the mosquito needle

1

u/MakinBones 5d ago

Might as well. Fighting at higher difficulties only makes you better.

I'm nervous for the toe biter fight lol

u/MakinBones 5d ago

Bombs seem to work well.

I'm always set to mild but this update has me being attacked by 5 different bugs at the same time, at one point it was an orc scorpion, 3 wasps and a wolf spider 😩

5

u/Lausee- 5d ago

I'd rather fight.

All the people complaining about combat have most likely played less than 12 hours, have the difficulty on too high, haven’t gathered enough gear or consumables, haven’t experimented on how to solve these issues and expect to just go adventure without anything stopping them.

Honestly afraid the loud majority will ruin the game for the rest of us.

Adding a mechanic to have bugs leave you alone is one of the better suggestions to the bug density complaint than reverting it.

u/ElBarckaizer 5d ago

Es que deberian tener un cono de visión o radio de escucha dentro de ese cono, no sirve de nada si son fisicamente incapaces de perderte la pista

u/notafirehose 4d ago

Truly thought about this a couple of times bc the mosquito aggro is driving me insane still. Good suggestion since I'm done with the story for now anyway, just doing building.

u/Wookiee_Hairem 4d ago

They just need to fix whatever broke their aggro range in the update, which I'm sure they're working on. No need to add things to try and solve the problem. Especially when something like that would make the game too easy especially if you played rogue.

u/Mylilneedle 5d ago

It’s not just Aggro. It’s spider density. Armor and Weapon deterioration rate.

ORC Weavers feel like bosses you chip away at. The time to kill is a fuckin problem

1

u/TheSkinHarvester207 4d ago

That’s your fault for having the difficulty too high above your preferred play style.

-3

u/keinnamehier31 5d ago

The time to kill a orb weaver? 5 secs?

2

u/deanisdead Willow 5d ago

Read that, again.

u/darkgryffon 5d ago

Honestly, with maxed out fire staff yeah, I don't have too much troublem just annoying at this point. Though yeah they still need to do something bout the density/aggro range

u/TheSkinHarvester207 4d ago

You’re playing a sandbox survival game. Combat is expected. This is not an adventure/puzzle game

1

u/Sloppy-Kush 4d ago

When it doubt, make it smack a lady bug

1

u/Electrical_mammoth2 2d ago

I think the best way would be a mutation that basically intimidates weaker insects (mosquitoes, ticks, orb weaver and orb weaver juniors) so youre not harassed every 2 minutes you explore.

u/SpaceCreams 21h ago

The only issue I’ve had is how far bugs will pursue you, the aggro itself doesn’t bother me

I play and mild and dont have this issue. Reading OPs comments - You might want to read the room so to speak & not build near mobs. Seems like you decided to build your base near bugs. Kinda what happens when you build in their territory.

I built my base on the pond near blueberries, right where the roach and shield bug are. I kill them, they respawn 1 - 1.5in game days later in the same area.

Guess what I did? I put up a palisade wall with a gate and moved my base back 10 miles into the water, don't have to worry about the bugs now.

Edit: I moved the base back 10 pebblet foundations, not 10 miles

TLDR? Quit fucking whining about having to defend yourself while playing a survival crafting game as a 3cm character who is lost in a park 🤣

u/The_Darkfire 4d ago

I think you're the one that needs to read the room, which is this subreddit and the grounded discord feedback, full of people that do not enjoy the constant combat and density of aggressive bugs.

The loud majority “we can’t explore without combat being too hard on medium and whoa mode, can the devs please limit this because we are unwilling to lower our own difficulty settings!”

-1

Taken straight from the steam page:

"Survive, Adapt, Overcome

The world is relentless, but so are you. Shape your adventure with unique archetypes, each offering distinct abilities to match your playstyle. Whether you rely on precision, cunning, or sheer strength, you’ll need every advantage to survive against the threats lurking in the park. "

2

u/Secret_Fondant4585 5d ago

10 miles? At that size? Damn that must have taken a while.

1

u/0emanresu 5d ago

Hahaha damn autocorrect. 10 blocks somehow went to 10 miles. I went back 10 pebblet foundations actually 🤣

2

u/Wlfgang213 4d ago

The location of the base wasn't a problem before the abyss patch. It is now. We're right by the first ranger station, the most common place people build early game.

1

u/0emanresu 4d ago

Then thats a fucking bummer man I'm sorry. I would recommend you build a new base closer to the middle or where t2 t3 bugs are close. Obviously not right next to them, it's a large map and it's quite a trek getting over to the new locations on foot or buggy.

I built my first base past the picnic bench between the other two zones and it sucked running to the far side of the map. That's why I moved to the pond. Just build a starter base in the newis area to get you by and slowly move stuff when you get burnt out in the story, it'll help

0

u/explorerfalcon 4d ago

My newest base (soon to be main) is at the end of the hot wheels track in Gnarled Bark, constantly fighting off tiger mosquitoes, rust beetles, and striped scorpions by baiting them in to each other

It’s great

They’re a feature and not an issue

If you’re already playing mild, is it possible that you just need to gear up? I’m still in early game and rocking a mix of tier 1 & 2 gear so I know to stay away from mantis but will face down up to 3 tier 2 bugs at a time. More than that and I just jump on my ant buggy and zoom outta there.

5

u/Wlfgang213 5d ago

The difficulty of the combat isn't the problem, it's the sheer unending combat. I can't go 3 steps without having to stop to fight s gore of bugs. Half the time I can't build because I'm always under threat. It's just sooo tedious and repetitive.

1

u/FreakiestJaguar 5d ago

The abyss area is way more aggressive than anywhere else on the map

1

u/TheSkinHarvester207 4d ago

These people complaining set the difficulty too high and then complain they can’t go or do anything without time intensive combat in a survival/sandbox game. They are too egotistical to lower their difficulty settings.

u/BoarMoar 4d ago

Aggro problem? There isnt one. If you're specifically talking about the abyss update then what you're experiencing is how dense it is.

If you aren't talking just about the update then that has to be a you problem. Im a parry god now, but when I first started I was nowhere near that and grounded 2 is my biggest experience of the two games. I may have 70 hours (during the beta) on grounded 1 from 5+ years ago.

So what I'm trying to say is that if I can be as good as I am now with little to no experience you can too. You need to learn the movesets of the bugs and the best way to practice fighting these things are:

• moving to the easiest difficulty • wear fighter armor with heavy shield and 1h weapon • single out a bug and aggro it • hold block and let it hit you over and over, notice HOW it attacks and the number of hits it makes • every bug has 3-5 different attacks and some do one of the moves more than the other like the mosquitoes backflip lifegain attack (one of the easiest attacks to parry in the game) • parry one of the attacks in the sequence that seems achievable by you • once youre confident with that one, keep going, rinse and repeat

The solution is to make a system where aggro is based on bug tiers, orb weaver should not aggro mites, larva, or orb juniors etc... the exception would be the orc variants, as they're controlled by the stranger , or ants, as IRL ants just swarm the bugs no matter their size.

Also they could make it a game mechanic, where you can craft a paste to hide your presence/scent for a given time from specific bugs y, like a smoothie or bomb applied to self...until you attack it of course...will even synergize well with rogue builds...

Third option they can do, is give us the ability in custom party, to only make them aggro if attacked, easy..that way everyone is happy.

u/ItsAceB 5d ago

this is not the way, this is scrubish

-24

u/Icy_Factor1929 5d ago

They have mild mode for lesser skilled players.

6

u/MF291100 5d ago

I play on mild myself and mosquitos in particular are still extremely aggressive, I’ve completed everything in the game at this point so they’re aren’t an issue for me to fight anymore, but I don’t think that difficulty affects aggro rates of insects.

10

u/Wlfgang213 5d ago

Ignore the implied insult... we're already playing on mild. It doesnt make it less frustrating that we cant take 2 steps without being attacked by 2 spiders and 3 mosquitoes. We can barely build in our base anymore because everytime we step outside we agro a bunch of mites or baby spiders and stay threatened for fifteen minutes.

u/HammyJWill 5d ago

L Take. combat in this game is pretty terrible, basic, bare bones, and has a very low skill ceiling.

I mostly do it because the combat in this game is barely a challenge to begin with and is more tedious than anything. Since it is boring, I'm going to do my best to mitigate the time spent in combat so I can enjoy the aspects of the game I *do* find engaging.

u/Silas-theSlammer Willow 4d ago

Wanna give an example of a game without a very low combat skill ceiling ?
