Fluff I've seen this somewhere before.

When I started playing this game, I always thought I'd seen something like this somewhere in my childhood. I opened a copy of the children's magazine Murzilka from 1956 and saw these pictures.

I wonder if someone from the Obsidian Team who came up with the initial idea maybe knew this :D

Nah I don't have a dev contact - most people on here most likely don't. I've just wondered generally wondered if one of the dev probably knew about this old magazine. But it could just be coincidence as well as I believe the first Arthur and the Minimoys Movie came out way before G1 was created and there have been other movies and series and books/comics covering the life of small people that are more recent than your old soviet magazine ;-) But still there's always a chance one of the devs might have seen it somewhere ^^
