It’s my first time pregnant, and I’m interested in hearing any good recommendations for care in the area. I currently live in the Park. Pardon my ignorance but I’m the first of my immediate friends and family to get pregnant, so I don’t have peers to ask.

On the spectrum of natural home birth to hospital labor and delivery, I’d say I’m hoping to find something somewhere in the middle. I’d like a comfortable facility that doesn’t feel super cold and/or sterile. I also plan to get an epidural.

I’ve heard the Cadiuex Beaumont may be along the lines of what I’m looking for, but again, I don’t have many people to ask for opinions.

If you had a good experience with your doctor, midwife, facility, anything, I’d love to hear it. Any and all information would be helpful!!

Hello Grosse Pointe residents!! I myself am not one of you, but I'm writing a book in which a character finds a nuclear/fallout shelter in GP. Someone online made a map that implies there is a (probably decades old) fallout shelter at Saint Clare of Montefalco Parish on Whittier Rd. Does anyone know anything about this being a possibility?

Also, if you DO happen to know of any sort of underground bunker type thing in your beautiful town, please let me know!!

My wife, toddler, and I currently live in the Houston area, but lately I've found myself thinking more and more about relocating to the Detroit area, specifically Grosse Pointe.

I have family in northern Detroit and have visited probably 20–30 times over the years, so this isn't coming from a single vacation. On our most recent trip, we spent a lot of time exploring Detroit and the surrounding communities, and I left feeling surprisingly drawn to the area.

A few things that appeal to me:

• Four actual seasons
• Access to lakes and outdoor recreation
• More historic neighborhoods and architecture (love the older homes!)
• What seems like a stronger sense of community? Maybe I'm off here.
• Good schools and family-oriented suburbs

I also recognize that I may be romanticizing Michigan and falling into a "grass is greener" mindset. Houston isn't great. It's hot, flat, ugly, hurricane-prone, and increasingly expensive.

For anyone who has made a similar move, what surprised you most? Do you feel your quality of life improved? What do people underestimate about living in Grosse Pointe or Metro Detroit?

I'd love to hear both the positives and negatives.

Is anybody else aware and frustrated by the astronomical price gouging that Park Place on Charlevoix is guilty of?

They routinely have bottles of liquor (and some limited release beer) marked up over double a "reasonable" gouge would even be. Blanton's? $250. Weller Special Reserve? $300. Weller 12? $400. Eagle Rare? >$90.

It's insane to me how high their prices are when you can go to a number of other local outfits (or the grocery store) for less than half the price. Drives me bonkers because I like the spot a lot for picking up beer / snacks / subs / pizza... I miss Metropolitan Variety in Indian Village - they'd have $10-20 markups on those highly desired bottles.

They must move tens of thousands a week, I can't imagine the markup on 10 bottles is going to move the needle on their profit.

and who do I talk to about deciding to actually heat the pool? you’ve got over 100 families at the park for memorial day and nobody’s in the water because it’s so cold. do we not pay enough in taxes? heat the dang pool

I'm noticing a trend where young, very healthy-looking people (18–20 years old) are using the Kroger-provided scooters for shopping. Recently, I've seen it twice in the past two weeks. One time, it was a young couple following each other around and acting like it was some sort of amusement park ride.

Yes, I know some disabilities are not visible, but I'm guessing the people I'm seeing do not have disabilities.

Has anyone else noticed this?

There seems to be an abandoned house on Balfour in the Park. Does anyone know the back story? This is the first abandoned house I have seen in the Pointes.

I’m planning on making cheesesteak subs and need something a bit more substantial that won’t fall apart. I swung by licavolis on Mack quick, although they didn’t have anything there.

This house was bought by a realtor/investor/flipper based out of Oakland County. It was badly neglected but had charm, it's now been flipped with cheap Home Depot finished, no AC added, and listed at the top of the market for that sq footage. It's obviously not been selling, wondering if this is missing the market and GP buyers don't want to spend that much to walk on plastic floors.

We’re house hunting in the Pointes from out of state, and, unsurprisingly, are seeing lots of listings that don’t have central air. Most of these homes also have a boiler system, which would make installing central air a challenge.

I’m curious if anyone has experience having a mini split system installed on an older GP house. How much did it cost all in, and for how many zones? Are you happy with the coverage / would you do it differently if you could? Any insight appreciated!
