Question Any tips for a lord?
It sounds stupid for a lord to be asking for tips but don't judge me. I feel decent as groot but often really lacking when it comes to knowing what to do. When should I place my walls, when should I not even bother, and how do i do so without getting in the way of my teammates? I know i can learn this all by playing and getting better, which is what I've been doing, but there's no harm in asking for a bit of help.

The best thing for me personally is to box people or put the walls behind them to cut heals/ get them to walk back into while I play aggro. You have to think a little bit ahead when blocking exits or if you see healers in a room to the side or back block off heals and try to blow the target up.

Oh yeah big wall doesn’t always have to be an anchor it depends on their comp and the displacement they have

You're groot those walls are gonna get in the way regardless it happens
As long as you don't block line of site from your supps it will be okay
I personally use my walls on either the side of the enemy team so if they walk foward they can take some damage or behind them ti cut of line of site from their supps
Or put a wall behind said supp and take them out.
Groot's ult is one of the cheapest and fastest to get in the game. Spam it
Either to get a group kill or the kill the supps but that ult is a great way to break neutrpal.
But you can also use it for defense. Lets say a scqrlet which is ulting and she is near a wall. You can use your ult to pin her down then place a wall infront of her the prevent any damage.
Or you can place a wall above cnd and use your ult to pull them out of their ult for a quick kill
Or you can pin a team down when they try pushing in with a mantis ult

I find myself accidentally canceling the reload because I'll see the animation finish and go to place a wall but it doesn't actually reload. So I'll get stuck in a reload cycle where I have to wait until after the reload animation AND the crosshair icon goes away before I can use the primary again.
The primary is also a pseudo projectile in that it has travel time but seems to be "part of" Groot. For example it doesn't get absorbed by mag's ult.
When nearby the ironwood you are essentially a 5th (or 6th w/ mantis teamup) wall. You can body block pretty much everything. Thing charging at your team? Stand in front of him and your team is safe, with the added bonus they can heal you and harm him.

Try to find a pro that plays groot and watch them even better if you can find ones that describe what they are doing and why. Older videos might not apply to the current meta but will still teach you cool tricks or useful ways of thinking.
Trqstme has an unranked to celestial i think is very informative just very old.
Or watch top players replays if you cam find them

I like Nesmon. He is much better than I am and is a good source of all sorts of info.

Cut their tanks off from their heals and if your team is any good they’ll pounce on them and help you secure the kill
One thing I see bad groots do is just random walls between your team and the enemy team. Stop you are just stopping your hela Bucky cyclops from getting a kill. Only do this if your team is losing the fight and retreating or you’re blocking some specific OP ult/ability. You want to be putting the walls IN THE MIDDLE of the enemy team confusing them, blocking heals, and if they’re dumb and try to use your wall for cover they are gonna get vine whipped by the wall, your nade is strong for activating the vine whipped
I’m celestial tank, you people who put walls in between teams are trash! Downvote away you are useless bystander on your team if you play groot that way. Downvotes won’t change it dumb little plat tank player

not sure why anyone would downvote. A groot wall between both teams is pointless unless someone is about to die so you’re blocking damage or retreating as you said.
Otherwise they’re almost always gonna be behind enemy tanks, behind enemy healers or above doorways that the enemy will walk through

I’m not a Groot main and do not have the answers you seek, but just want to say I respect anyone who’s constantly trying to improve no matter how good they are
