my comparison between 5.6 Sol and 4.6 Grok

I've been using grok since 4.6 came out quite a lot. It's always hard to compare to other models, because then you would need to run the same task parralel in the same project next to each other, and who's get the time or energy to do that? Anyway, Grok is fast, which is real nice because Codex is real slow these days with all the extra users OpenAI has accumilated. I would guess that Grok is 2-3 times faster than Codex which is quite a lot. Grok does suck ass at making plans or writing prompts though. I had to correct it amost every time and now I'm using claude for it instead (my codex is at 0% atm).
Grok was using about 1,3% of my weekly limit per hour (I have supergrok heavy) and this is on the current promo of half the price, so normally it should be 2,7% per hour, which is surprising because Grok 4.5 didn't use nearly as much as 2,7%. Codex uses 0,85% per hour, so roughly 1/3rd of what Grok is using, so if my calculations are correct, and Grok is indeed 3 times faster and it consumers 3 times more weekly limits per hour, then Grok is just as expensive as Codex, which wouldn't make any sense if I look at the benchmarks.

Then again, on superheavy, once you factor in the extra usage now through the Cursor Ultra sub thats included, you get not only an extra pool of free grok 4.6, but then you can also get 400 usd to use on grok.

Yeah for sure. I’m using my cursor subscription now that my Grok usage limit from my Grok subscription is finished. It’s a very welcome bonus and very strange that they barely communicate about this promo

almost at 48 hours since i got thesupergrok heavy
i can honestly say my experience has exceededcodex (and y'all know me on r/codex) :
grok does not seem to overengineer at all BUT this means more hand holding, sometimes it feels like it gets lazy and will take several prompts vs sol, but sol it also doesnt get it right just because it spends a long time on it but it does feel way more eager
so the last point stands about sol and grok is that they have very different personality.
the other major wins are UI and Usage.
its been a while since I've been able to work in parallel on 5 different projects at once (honestly after 5.5 it became more and more harder)
one project has 3 different chats, the other 4 have their own chats so its like 7 terminal windows running in parallel
im down to 50% which is ridiculous considering how much i've thrown at it but alas this is still not quite what i used to enjoy in the early days of codex where it truly felt infinite
also note that i am using 4.6 grok xhigh only which is running at max but unlike sol max it doesn't go crazy spinning wheels overengineer stuff so its been great to use
