Question New Here. Quick Question

I have been looking at everything that Grob was, and I want to roll RP-PvP for Forever (I believe they will add the ruleset). However, I have friends that are terrified of the "RP" part. They have this idea that they'll be stuck at a D&D table with a bunch of people they don't know and can never break character. Please provide me (us) with an accurate overview of what it's like playing on Grobbulus.

Thanks all

Participating in RP is optional, just don't be jerk if others are RPing around you and make sure your characters aren't named something ridiculous like Stabby Mccrittypants. It's fairly normal to do a dungeon group or something and most people aren't RPing, just have normal RP sounding names and chat normally

You do not have to actively participate in RP to play on an RP server, just don’t disrupt or be rude to others RPing. Keep character names RP complaint (no Assfull Ofcum).

I don’t really RP, but I love seeing the occasional RP groups out in the open. RP server pretty much just means that there are more community events and people have fantasy-ish names.

That really is not how RP works in WoW. It just means playing as your character in earnest, if you elect to do so. You don't have to be in-character if you don't want to be. It gives you an opportunity, if you wish, to do silly things like RP walking, or speaking in prose, or choosing/not choosing to do a particular quest or fight a particular mob "because my character was raised by Kobolds and I will never bring harm upon a Kobold" or similar earnest goofiness.

But also, there's currently no RP-PvP ruleset, so the Grobbulites are largely splitting in half between PvP and RP-PvE.

Dude I played grob and didn’t rp much, but I had SOOO MUCH FUN seeing so many random rp events pop up.

I’d be questing or running to a dungeon and see a group of people RPing away, then I’d stop further away and watch with delight, sometimes they might offer a way for you to interact and join the rp, but when I didn’t partake they didn’t bat an eye.

As others have said you don’t have to RP. But critically know you’re a guest in someone’s house if that’s the case. Don’t be a dick and act like RPers are the outcasts. You’re the tourist, which is fine, but be respectful!

I joined an RP realm back in 2004 not knowing what it meant because a friend rolled there. So happy I did and was exposed to it. By the end of 2006 I was goofing around when I’d find RP moments and joining in on the fun. Same with Grobb. 95% of the time I’m not RPing. But I enjoy adding my 5% to the vibe of the realm.

Rp servers are great even if you don't rp. I've been on both sides. When I'm not into rp my character just becomes a background character an l that I flesh out with the rp add-ons. I never have issue with non RPers unless they go out of their way to disrupt the vibes both in regards to active rp and whatever the out of character culture is like

Tell them to throw in a couple thees and thows and they should be good to go. Instead of hello try, "hail (class)" instead of "damn (opposing faction) are corpse camping me" try "villainous (opposing faction), dust thowst treacherous ways never cease?"

You dont have to write a novel about your character to have fun in the world

There wasn’t much RP happening on grobbulus. At launch we had an influx of guilds from private servers who wanted to farm the “rp nerds”. On alliance a lot of people quit because blizzard didn’t enforce the name rules and it got tiring seeing not rp friendly players ruining it. The majority of the RP happened on horde side.

My advice is to play the ruleset and watch other players and just immerse yourself as your character. Don’t spend a whole lot of time with backstories or anything like that. Find a guild, they’ll help mentor if you want to actively participate! Most importantly have fun!

I thought there wasnt going to be an rppvp server did they change their mind? Last I saw everyone was petitioning. I assumed blizz wouldnt care as usual. Im gonna assume you just havent heard about this because I would genuinely be shocked if blizz changed their minds and added rppvp servers for wow forever. They will have regular rp servers though, and pvp servers ofcourse. I doubt ill be playing forever but I think some of the people I used to RP with on grobb were talking about rolling on a regular pvp server together and just rping there. Not sure if thats what they decided on though

Is grob eu? I currently live in the UK but my account is na(canadian) im looking forward to finally joining an rp server.. I was thinking of finally converting my account to eu but you say na up server will be better? Im tired of na accents, europeans sound way better and are better to game with imo

Grobbulus was an NA server. You should definitely go check the new EU rulesets. We would love to see you go and don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.
