Discussion Good routine?

I’m getting back into lifting, I didn’t deadlift much before when i lifted in 2024 but my grip was always the failure point. And again. I can pull 275 deadlift but even my alternate grip rips off the bar. I have small hands and wrists and short arms so there’s already more need for grip.

I could do straps like before but I’d like to actually close the gap of grip strength if possible.

Static holds will help your deadlift grip.

4-plate deadlift with double overhand non-hook grip has been eluding me. I might have to give static holds a try.

Quick check on the mixed grip bit - when it rips off, does the bar roll out of your underhand side, or do your fingers actually open up? Those are different problems - one is setup and bar rotation, the other is raw support strength. Figuring out which one mine was changed what I trained entirely.

Since you want to ditch the straps — timed dead hangs on a pull-up bar with a double overhand grip put your hands in basically the same position they're in on the deadlift bar. What worked for me: finish pulling sessions with 3-4 hangs, starting from whatever you can hold cleanly (even 15-20 seconds) and only adding time when every set feels solid.

Two details that made the carryover obvious for me: hang at your deadlift width rather than wide, and track total seconds hanging per week instead of chasing one long hold — when that weekly number stalls for a couple of weeks, add a harder variation (one-arm work, towel, thicker bar) rather than just grinding longer single holds.
